Can I recommend a good website. It's a bit 'American-y-fied' but all the people are so lovely & helpful. There's a lot of information on there and I found it helped me to be part of a 'group' who knew what I was going through and who can offer support.

I can see people don't really chat on here, is there another thread for quiters? My mum is trying to quit now they've brought out the new no smoking policy and she's looking for support.

  • I would recommend Allen Carr's book - The Easyway To Stop Smoking.

Having smoked for 4 years, I ordered the book after being recommended by a heavy smoker.
I finished it day I bought it, and haven't had a cigarette since (3 weeks now).
He uses a great approach to quitting, which leaves you with no desire to light one up again..

The best £6 I ever spent..

I've got a question for if anyone knows anything about this new stop smoking drug Varenicline (Champix). Does anyone know when it will become available on the NHS?
I've tried quitting several times but as yet not succeeded. I haven't been allowed to try Zyban due to the fact I used to have an eating disorder. Because of this I wonder if I will also not be allowed the new drug for the same reasons.
I don't want to waste my GP's time by asking when it will be available as obviously it isn't yet. My reasons for wondering if it would work for me are because I've tried patched, inhalors etc and had no long-term success. But I really want to quit.

    Suggestion...

Allen Carr's book worked 3 times for me,(5-6 months, each time,) and I am again smoking...

Please don't make my mistake; KEEP the book and re-read often, for reinforcement of your resolve.

    I'm still trying!
