Does this apply to me if I buy a packet of 20, which lasts me for around 4 months, coz I use a fifth of it for a spliff?

Yeah, like nobody farts around in the kitchen gossiping or surfing or just shuffling paper around??? Purleeease! Everybody wastes 'productive' time at work in one way or another, the only difference is that smokers are seen to leave the office environment for about 10 mins and they choose to use their official break indulging in their habit, rather than remaining at their desks and carrying on working (far more toxic for them in mho). Besides, the smoking arena is where all the good goss is, so you non smokers are missing out!

Non-smokers waste other people's time as well as their own Not an article from the Daily Blah, just observation of the seemingly endless telly and footie discussions whilst I'm working...

Now, if you had followed my link to the orginal story, and read the comments at the bottom of the page, you would have seen my answer to that suggestion.

I managed to give up a few years ago but it wasnt easy at all, still I'm glad I managed it because the savings are really massive, and plus I don't cough so much now and can breathe better, and don't get so many colds. I smoked about 30 a day, so today it would be 7 or 8 quid a day.

I have smoked for the past 15 years, tried to give up a few times but deep down, I wasn't really doing it for me, but for others and what I thought I should be doing. I recently recovered from a chest infection and decided that I just don't want to be a smoker anymore. Its hard, its been about 9 days now...check my sig.....and I've done it cold turkey, no cutting down, patches etc...I'm just going for it. I did need a real incentive though. I know, my health should be enough.....so I said to my OH that if I gave up, could I work less hours as we would be saving over £100 a month and he said that was a great idea so every time I feel like one, I just think that I will soon be leaving work earlier and spending more time with my OH and family and obviously, not smelling and dragging everyone around various restaurants and pubs when I go out, desperately trying to find the smoking bit! Roll on 1 July, that will also help a lot!!! I know this is one of the most important things I can do for myself so I am determined. :j :j

i also gave up smoking several years ago and never looked back. i smoked about a pack a day, and tried a couple of times without success but the day i really wanted to give up, meaning i was really fed up with it, that's when i stuck to it. i feel so much better for it! i saved the money every day and now have a nice nest egg.:D
ok, so i'm hot... ;)
  • Wow my first post

I've been getting Martin's Money Saving Emails for some time and read the forums when I have time but hadn't realised I'd never posted before.

I just wanted to add that I quit smoking on the 14th March (3 weeks ago, tomorrow) and it's been really interesting reading this thread. It's a shame it's suddenly gone quiet.

I few of you mentioned seeing a hypnotist. I also saw one of those who does group bookings, this was last year sometime. Although I didn't quit smoking at the time, it may have had more of an effect on me than I thought. Because I've tried many times to quit before but this time has been so much easier.

    Well Done LouBlue :A
What a great incentive for not smoking.

    Hi All

20 day for the last 30 years - going to pack up on 30th April. :j

Thank you for these mostly helpful posts, yes, I have read the book and am too sharp for suggestion to work on me so that didn't work. Never tried any of the other things, patches, sniffers or whatever but my give up date is drawing near and I am going to try and get my head in the right place in time.

I found this website really helpful so far http://www.gosmokefree.co.uk/

and am off to see the Doctor to see if he will help with a prescription for whatever aids he suggests.

Good luck everyone, I got my fingers crossed and am working on a positive spin for myself

This will be a big boost to pay off the debts quicker :T :T :T :T
