Hi Girls,
How is everyone? We don't want this thread getting too quiet! Thought I would give you all an update.
Still going strong, still not smoking, getting prouder of myself as each day passes. I do find that the pats on the back from people close to me are getting thin on the ground lately though. It seems that to them, I have mastered this 'stop smoking' lark now! I was expecting praise and compliments for at least a few more weeks lol :rotfl:
It's costing me a fortune in nicorette sprays though. I am going through 3 - 4 a week at the moment. Totalling £60 to £80 which seems exhorbitant! Not exactly saving money from stopping smoking as it's all going on sprays but I expect I will see money saving when eventually I come off them. before you all say 'you can get them on prescription' from the Doctor, no I can't. I have had two prescription courses on the NHS before, they gave me patches and they didn't work. I continued to smoke whilst using the patches   so they won't give me anything else on prescription as I have had 2 failures with them. Also, they won't just prescribe the sprays as they are the most expensive anti-smoking aid and they give out patches/Zyban as it's cheaper. Patches are under £20 a week, 3 sprays a week is £60 a week.
Still, they are expensive as they work! So I'll stop moaning~What you send out comes back to thee thricefold!~~0 -
:j :j  :T  :grouphug: _party_ _party_  EMBER - couldn't find pats on the back - hope these will do! Well done you - keep it going, you're doing brilliantly, especially for some-one who practically lives on the M6  !0

Im still going strong! Infact last night i went on a boozy night out and it was like i was back on day 3!! I really really struggled but i made it. I knew if i had one puff i would wake up this morning and kick myself. So instead ive woken up feeling really proud! Ive actually woken up with a hangover and i never used to smoke much when i had a hangover anyway so today should be fine!!
Glad to see you guys are doing to well. Its lovely to know your still here doing this with me. Keep it up!!

There you go Ember, and you know, you can't smoke while you're laughing!
And well done, Sez, another milestone passed, and another crack in the fast disappearing millstone around your neck!
I found a possible subsitute for chocs Ember, not only is melon a great water-fruit which helps clear out toxics from your system, but if you leave it to get really ripe (not rotten!) it's tongue-tingly sweet and melt in the mouth sluuurrrrp0 -
hi guys. Hope youre all well and still going strong!! Each day that passes now i do feel as though its getting easier.
I felt rather discheartened yesturday though. I get my prescriptions via the gp but only have to hand in a piece of paper from the stop smoking lady to get the prescription made up. For the 1st 2 weeks i had to go and blow into the carbon monoxide machine to ensure i wasnt smoking so that they would give me my peice of paper for the dr to write a prescription up. At this month point though they write on the paper that you can now be prescribed 4 weeks worth at a time.... but the stupid dr only prescribed 2 weeks worth. I questioned it with the receptionist who gave every excuse under the sun for not getting it changed. I dont mind but it just meant i have to pay all the extra money for the 2 week prescriptions rather than 4 weeks worth.
Now to you this may seem silly!! But at the time i just felt like the dr was doing it to spite me... so i though i would be better nipping into tescos which was next door and buying some cigs... which would have been cheaper than the patches anyway!! But i didnt.. and im glad... and ive calmed down today! It may well have been an oversite on the drs part. Im a nurse, i know that drs arnt perfect, but i just thought that theres nothing like someone making things even more difficult than they already are for you is there!!
Hey ho!! 31Days now!! And dont think ill give in.... so long as i dont bump into my dr!!
Keep up the good work folks!! Sez x
p.s. would love to hear how youre all getting on.0 -
Know exactly what you mean Sez about doctors, BUT I have to say that it's often the reception people who actually punch in the prescriptions, then take bunches of them in to the dr to sign all at once, particularly when it's a 'repeat' type. There again, I once got a prescription through the post and the doctor hadn't signed it - it was an emergency so I had to go up to the surgery the next morning pronto - the receptionist had the cheek to say I could see the doctor 'some time during the day' and would I phone later for my allotted time - effect
Needless to say, I put on my very best 'I AM NOT MOVING' face (not many people can stand up to this believe me) - sudden change of heart - they said if I took the prescription to the pharmacy next door to the surgery they would fulfill it and get a signature later!!
Don't put up with this sort of thing Sez - stand your ground - they will give in, provided you just say you'll wait for it to be put right and don't get abusive. Then stand somewhere obvious (right in front of the counter is good - don't take a seat - you'll be there for hours) and remind them every now and then.
YOU'VE DONE WHAT THEY'VE BEEN URGING YOU TO DO - GIVEN UP THE WEED - IT'S THEIR TURN TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR NEEDS!
Keep it going, you're doing great!0 -

It's probably about time you thought about a plan to wean yourself of these now Ember.
Nicotine is still a carcinogen, however it gets into your system.
I know this sounds a bit whacky, but trust me! Buy a few Vick Sinexs!! Like with the fags themselves, it's often as much about the action of smoking, as the drugs you absorb by doing it. A common reason for going back is just to do something with your hands!
With the Sinexs, substitute a puff from the nicotine one with a Sinex one. Give it 15 mins and see how you feel.
Even if you want a Nicotine one after that 15 mins, it will be an extra 15mins you have been able to go between puffs, which will ultimately mean less in a day/week etc.
When that seems to work, go 20 mins between sinex & nicotine.
Don't go for the sinex every time, just occasionally to start with, and bring it in more and more.
E.G tomorrow, use it twice, the next day, twice again, then 3 times the day after that. Little steps.
See how that goes and I'll pop back in a couple of weeks to get you off your Sinex addiction!!How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

Thanks hon, I really do appreciate your help and supportwish you were my dentist, you could look in my mouth anyday lol
I think I am starting to like these little nicotine sprays too much and agree I do need to find a way to wean myself off them. As I am not being supervised by a Doctor or any form of person with regards to quitting smoking - doing it all myself this time etc. it could be a problem that I never come off them! This thought has occured to me more than once. Though I have to say, I am mighty impressed with them as they actually work! I am still a non-smoker and very proud of that fact. :T :T :T
I'm going in to Boots tomorrow to get some more sprays so I will pick up 3 vicks inhalers and follow your advice. At least it's something to stick up my nose (doesn't that sound awful  ) so it will mimick the nasal sprays in a way.
I want to get eventually to 'no' sprays so I do need to work at reducing it from 3 a week.
Keep an eye on me, I need my butt kicking sometimes

barbara: bless your heart sweety. I wish i had stood my ground now!! The receptionists do make me laugh, especially when they say "may i ask what the problem you want to see the dr with is". I always want to say one of two things: either completely baffle them with science and use words that i know they couldnt spell!! or say... oh yes... well its a sort of crushing pain.... and its moving to my left arm... and my jaw feels ever so tight..... whats that.... oh yes im sure an appointment a week monday would be fine!! Hehe!!
Thanks for your support hon. x0
