    Hi Everyone,

Can you belive it? Day 20 of 2006 and I am STILL A NON-SMOKER! I can't quite believe it but I have truly done it :j :j :j :j this time I think.

I have just been through the biggest test since I stopped. I am in my cottage in Scotland alone (hubby and cats are still in England earning the pennies :p ) and I have been here since Sunday afternoon. I managed a 2 1/2 hour journey down the M6 (very busy  ) and resisted temptation with no-one available to sniff my breath (yes, my hubby does do that, the sneek  ) etc. I am very proud of myself. Since we bought this cottage last September, I have never once smoked in it and now I am a permanent non-smoker, I never will.

I am still on the Nicorette Nasal Spray and I am so grateful I found this wee device that has helped me kick this filthy habit.

Don't get me wrong, I still fancy a ciggie at least 10 times a day but the important thing is that I haven't had one. I imagine the 'missing it' feeling will eventually go as I don't feel it as strong anymore. It used to be all the time, every day.

Keep up everyone, I haven't let the side down, don't any of you give up. Every day is a test of wills and we are all doing so well.

    Ember xx

  • :T WOW Ember - way to do it!!! You're a star, there again all of you are stars.

Special sympathy with Sez though, really going through it - remember though, victory will make it all the sweeter! You promised not to 'quit quitting' as well you know.

    Keep on trucking :D

hi guys. glad to see youre all well. Well done LOZ for not giving in! I have found it extreemely hard at times like that but am so proud after for not having given in. Went to asda this morning and was driving home with huge huge cravings... then i realised i hadnt put my patch on! Which meant that for the hour i was getting ready this morning i hadnt thought about smoking! I am struggling a bit at the moment. I think that although the habit is dying the initial excitment of giving up has pretty much gone! Anyway, must persavere. Have gone back to having the one wont hurt... oh yes it will conversations in my mind!! aaarrrrrggggggghhhhh!!

Well done to EMBER AND LOVINGITIFITSABARGAIN... nearly 3 weeks now!! Yay!

    Keep at it! Sez x

    Hi Sweetie,

Remember 'just one' will undo all the hard work you have achieved so far. If 'just one' wouldn't hurt, trust me, I would have had 'just one' so many times these past few weeks. YOU MUST resist the temptation. Yes, the novelty of giving up may start to pass, everything that sparkles soon loses it's shine, that's life I am afraid. With smoking however, it is a little different. The shine on giving up may have gone but the repair work your smoke damaged body is doing is a daily toil. Carbon Monoxide and all the other poisons wreck your internals. Your body starts to repair itself the 'minute' you stop smoking. Your heart and lungs will now be so much healthier. Your life span is increasing and your pocket is no longer emptying on wasteful ciggies that could one day kill you. When you are tempted, think of these things. These thoughts have kept me going through the hard times when I really wanted to smoke. 'One' cigarette could never compete with the pride I feel every day that passes that I don't smoke. Be proud, be strong and keep going for us.

Been desperately thinking of things to help occupy your mind as a non-smoker and came across the following:

    http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/index.jsp

Aside from being a fascinating little online shop, amongst the puzzles section is something called a 'Chrome tangle' - basically a manual metal puzzle that deffo will keep your hands and possibly your mind busy so that you don't think of 'u no wot'.

Something else on this site (in the Kitsch & Daft section) is the 'Coughing Ashtray' - a lovely gift for still smoking people you don't like and maybe even a booster for you - read their write up - it's quite funny in its own right. Have a look, cos you're entitled to smile!

Just wandering around this shop actually takes your mind off things anyway - anything that diverts your thoughts away has gotta help :D

Hi everyone and CONGRATULATIONS to all who have succeeded in packing up.After many a time of saying I'm stopping smoking ,15 days ago I actually stopped with help ( patches ) I was a very heavy smoker and grew to hate everything about ciggies the smell of yourself , the waste of money etc etc but I was just so addicted to them after 30yrs .Thing is even though I am determined never again to smoke it seems to be getting harder instead of easier.First week wasn't anywhere near as bad as I expected it to be but after 10 days the cravings seem to be getting worse and worse . Has anyone else experienced this ? They may be bad but not nearly as bad as me actually lighting ' just the one ' .
Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make
  • Welcome to our non smoking buddies group - and congratulations to you too for doing 15 days - honestly we are all feeling the same and have had days where we could of easily given in those days do pass and then it seems to get abit better the next and you feel stronger again - just read the previous posts you'll see we've been there !
I don't know why but I have a strange sweet taste in my mouth I'm sure it's from the patches and heart burn aswell was that bad yesterday thought I was gonna be sick but seems to go once I eat - I even put on a lower strength patch as though maybe I don't need the stronger one anymore (although this morning sitting here with my coffee I could quite easily light up - naughty naughty)
    20th day today - wow - and a saving of a hundred pounds - bigger wow !!!
Hope you are all doing well and have a good week :rotfl:

Morning all! Thanks to all those who have posted support latey. I have been keeping an eye on the thread but have been so busy! Im still a non smoker, 22 days now!

And well done to everyone else who is still hanging in there!

Quick question... im using the 15mg patches. When do i need to change down to the 10mg ones and then the 5mg ones?

Thanks. Keep up the good work team!! Sez x
  • Hi Honey - glad you are still hanging in there - as I said in my post I went down yesterday mainly coz I felt abit sicky and can honestly say the craving is the same as it was on the 15mg - but think it's normally bout 8 weeks before you are s'pose to go down in strength - I'll see how I go on the 10 and if it gets too bad will have to go up again ! the little booklet should give you a guide I think
    Take care -Loz -x-x-x
