Dont worry barbara i wont "quit quitting"!! Just going to the chemist to get my patches now infact! I think the books are good but i would strongly advise to use the patches or some kind of nrt if you are serious about giving up. I was too keen on the idea but i thought well its a hard enough thing to do anyway, why now do all i can to ease the blow. And it does seem to have taken the edge off things. Maybe speak to you dr or practice nurse about some nrt? Just my opinion! Will be here ready to give support as soon as your ready to stop sweety!

The timer thing can easily be reset so dont worry about that.

    Take care, sez x

Hi Sez, glad to see you're still hanging in there. I am just starting on 'phase 1' of my plan - in order to get an accurate idea of how much I smoke, I'm initially using my 'cutting down slowly' plan, as it's useful for this purpose and is a motivator also. So... please explain how I can re-set SilkQuit to reflect reality - when it hits me!

Phases 2 and 3 involve a book (Neil Casey or Allen Carr, can't decide which might be best) and a hypnotherapy book combined with its own CD.

After that, if no joy, I surrender myself to the tender mercies of the doctor - a desperate measure.

Be glad if you can let me know ref reset on SilkQuit though Sez - I have a feeling this will help and motivate me. :D

Still not smoking but had a very bad time with it last night. My Nicorette Nasal Spray ran out at 7pm last night. The was a major disaster. I thought I had another in the cupboard but I did not. I realised I did not after almost half an hour of throwing the room to bits - literally. By now I was quite stressed to say the least. The only think keeping me from ciggies was this little spray tin of nicotine and I didn't have one, no chemists were open to buy one and when I phoned the nearest 24 hour tesco they didn't sell them. To cut a long story short, by the time another 3 hours had passed I was in full 'rage' mode. I picked a fight with my hubby - who couldn't calm me down, our row lasted 2 hours and he was late for work  I was in a right sweat and the house was in pandamonium. He was shocked my lack of nasal spray could do this to me. I wanted to go get the emergency ciggie pack in the glove compartment of my car (from before I stopped smoking) but he wouldn't let me so I went mad

I had a terrible nights sleep, no ciggies, no spray, absolutely nothing and after only 3 weeks of not smoking in to the new year I am certainly not ready to ditch my spray.

I got ready this morning faster than the speed to light and was at the local chemist as it opened. I even snapped at a bloke who trapped my car in as I entered the car park, explaining that I need my nasal spray.

Goodness me, what a performance. Not a happy bunny at all

I almost undid all my hard work and smoked last night. I am calm and back to normal this morning now I have a new spray but it scared me how I got when I didn't have one. I really am badly hooked on nicotine it seems. My husband still isn't talking to me, I phoned him at work to apologise and he put the phone down on me! after telling me he had nothing to say to me until I got my spray. I didn't get chance to tell him I had one now ;):p;)

Not a good day at all!

I have just ordered another 3 from an online pharmacy. I can't be running out again for sure, it's not good for my stress levels and my husband and cats are avoiding me like the plague lol

Mind you, I have some peace and quiet now :T

  • Hi Ember - well done for not giving in! I found when I gave up last time, one of the biggest helps was having a Crafe-AWay (think that's what it is called) artificial cigarette. It was good for twiddling with in the pocket, chewing on and pretending you're smoking, if you take big inhalations, it actually seems to calm you down. I found what I missed when giving up was having something in my hands and something in my mouth. If your chemist hasn't got them, I'm sure they'll order them in! Hang in there kid, you're doing extra extra good! :T :T

Ember - just remember (poetry already!) you did make it through the night - ok there could have been bloodshed but there wasn't! Have you tried any relaxaton routines - these can be done in bed, you just go through them and before you know it (honest) it's next morning.

Starting with feet, then calves, thighs, bum, stomach, chest, arms, shoulders, neck, head - take a deep breath in, stretch or tauten the muscles in each area, then relax that area with a gentle breath out - do this for each of the other areas in order, when you come to your head just lift it up and forward off the pillow, this should produce a yawn. Then relax back. If necessary you can keep doing this until it's next morning (!) but I've never got to that point.

It also gives you something else to think about - worth a try - it can help a lot.

KEEP GOING - please never, never give in to the glovebox, think of all of the work you'll have wasted and all of the pain you have already got through - successfully!
  • EMBER - you are a shining example - next time I have the craving I'm gonna read your post over and over - you have done so well I honestly do not know if I could of got through what you did - and thank gawd hubby was around to stop you going to your glove compartment - alot of fuss for him this evening - keep going girlie -x-Loz

  • Hello there,

I quit smoking on the 3rd December 05. I bought the Niquitin patches from superdrug as they were reduced. I have tried to quit before but this time I am determind and I have incentives. Anyway after 2 weeks on the patches I mentioned it to my GP who took me into the nurse. After that I had to go and see her every week to blow in this thing that measured the carbon monoxide and I got the patches on perscription which for me was good as I get free prescriptions, still for anyone else its still like getting them half price. I am completely off the patches now before the end of the course, I occasionally fancy a cig BUT I have no intentions of buying any.

Good luck to everyone who's in the process of giving up!
