Morning guys! Day 11 now for me now!

Ember: I shouldnt worry about coming off the nicotine spray. I think it will happen but not for a while yet. I guess there will just come a time where you look back and think, oh i didnt used my spray this morning ect ect. Please dont worry though. Im worried will i be able to cope when my patches course has finished but its a long way off and hopefully the "habit" of smoking will have reduced by then so it wont be so difficult.

Feeling a bit sorry for myself today for other reasons, but it just makes you see how dependant i was on cigs before. Would have them when happy, sad, excitted, tired ect. I dont want one, but i miss my little friends!

Hey ho, Hope you all have a good day today, Im working nights tonight (another huge hurdle im frigtened of due to my "night work smoking routine"! sounds stupid but i have one before i start, one at the start of my break one at the end ect ect) but should be about for a while today.

    Sez x
    Hey you
Come on girlie chin up (on in my case its gonna be chins soon !) once you get tonight over you will realise just how well you have done and how much wil power you have - if they go out for a puff you might even find it helps to go with them (specially if it's -2 degrees outside) if it's inside just sniff your clothes afterwards yuck - last time I gave up I still went with the smokers for a fresh air break it helped me mind you I was sniffing the smoke but after about a week never went anymore -
Be strong you can do it -x-x- Loz

Morning Girls, nice to see you around nice and early lol ( I don't do early, I love my bed.... :D ) I feel okay today, still stuffed from the Indian last night (no jokes from the cheap seats please! :p)

Day 12 of 2006...time is passing but slowly. My weeks used to go so quick, but since I stopped smoking, they seem to drag. I feel okay this morning, starting to get used to not smoking. Don't get me wrong, I could still fancy one but not with the same enthusiasm of previous days when I could have cheerfully choked one. I'm driving to Scotland on Sunday afternoon and I worry about that. I used to go through about 4 during the 2 1/2 hour journey. I won't be able to use my nasal spray whilst driving as it can occasionally cause sneezing so could be dangerous. Dreading that journey. My bizarre lifestyle of living one week in England and one in Scotland is going to be testing now I have stopped smoking. I have to drive so much and spend so much time on Motorways. Smoking killed the boredom and calmed my nerves if some Yorkie weilding trucker terrified me on the M6 ( I hate motorways lol) But when I am at my cottage in Scotland life is a little more relaxed so maybe it isn't going to be as hard as I think. When I think about it, which I do a lot, smoking was my partner is every area of my life. It's always sad when a relationship comes to an end and as in one's love life, although I hated smoking, I miss it sometimes  but I am so much happier now I don't smoke. Weird!
Keep going everyone, do not give in, we have come too far now.....
Try and have a good day girls.

Still going strong here, had a small urge for a ciggie when I first woke up but not really worth mentioning. Fed up today though as I have to buy some more Nicorette Nasal Sprays and they cost £19.98 each  I went through 3 this last week
I always wonder why they charge so much for non-smoking aids that cost pennies to produce. Maybe if they charged a fairer price more people would sucessfully stop smoking once they receive the help with withdrawal they need. I do think the industry rips us off! Rant over for the day now :p

  • ... it's part of rip-off Britain. Think of all the tax the government will lose if we stop smoking, so they don't really want you to succeed, do they, if they did they would make these non smoking aids available either free or cost only!!!
    C'est la vie!
  • Hmm. Helpful stuff from this thread so far-

This post- I developed a breathing technique (which I still use) - imagine if you smoke a cigarette that this dirty dusty grey smoke is going into your lungs. It fills ever sac in your lung, every pore. Your blood comes by and picks up the grey dirt from your dusty lungs and the dirt is flowing around your whole entire body polluting it. But you don't have a cigarette in your hand. Instead take a long slow deep breath of clean air. All that oxygen going into your lungs, cleansing, soothing and nourising every sac and every pore. Then your blood comes along and it too is nourished and enriched. The healthy blood pumps through your heart, through every artery and every capillary delivering clean life sustaining oxygen from your scalp to the ends of your toes. Keep breathing slowly, imagining this clean air cleansing your whole body. Keep doing this...the craving for the dirty smelly cigarette will go away.

I did so well the one time I gave up for 3 months (my record) by using a similar method of getting up every morning opening the window and savoring some really fresh air, it usually worked pretty well at countering the damn awful craving for a cig as soon as I got up, and put me in a decent frame of mind for the day as a non- smoker :)

This post- 1. If hunger pangs hit, sucking a glucose sweetie could help
    2. Your risk of heart and stroke problems increases with age if you smoke. You knew that didn't you, but what you need to remember is that if you have a stroke you might be twisted up and unable to move easily or speak coherently and that might last for years until you finally kick the bucket. Don't expect nhs stroke services to be as good as they need to be - they won't be, especially if you're over 60.
    3. If number 2 happens you also might not be able to light a fag anyway!
    4. If you're absolutely gasping for a fag - lick an ashtray to remind you of what's inside your lungs.
    5. Make sure you stay as busy as you can manage, even if it means choosing between having a fag and jogging round the streets for half an hour - that should put you off both.
    6. Reward yourself every day for not smoking - after all you've got about a fiver to spend on treats which would have gone up in smoke.
    7. If the craving becomes impossible to bear, burn a five pound note to remind you of the financial benefits

Some decent thoughts and points there.

My thoughts- I find that keeping myself busy helps a lot. STAY AWAY from places where people are likely to be smoking etc especially for the first few days. After you have a few days behind you, it becomes more of a let down to yourself if you give in.

I gave up for 3 months before and felt completely free of the habit. My best friend gave up about two weeks after me and still dosent smoke. I was stupid enough to restart after having 'just one' at an xmas party. Ive been kicking myself for the two years since..

First thing I think about in a morning is normally a smoke, and usually the last too. I cant drink without a cig. That makes giving up hard because I have to stop drinking and smoking at once. Hardly fun but certainly doable as I managed it before.
I enlisted my fathers help to give up this year, he is doing it with me. He started on the 1st but I didnt pluck up the bottle to start till the 9th. Day 4 so far and I feel pretty damn good considering. Theres been a few ropey moments but so far havent given in.

One thing I would also like to mention is that Ive tried all 3 widely available patches and found only Niquitin works for me (and only step 2 at that lol!)
Gum I found useless. Zyban Ive heard too many horror stories of.

Remember ALWAYS when stopping smoking, if you succeed once, really succeed, then thats IT for good. Thats what I keep telling myself. If you fail thats once more, twice more etc you are going to have to go through it all again in order to stop. It isnt fun even once. make the first time count and dont EVER think that one cig will be ok. Chances are it wont.
  • Allo all,
Finally took the plunge, smoked me last cig last night (reading Allen Carr). A bit of a shock to the old system today, but no intention of ever smoking again, so just have to wait for my 'little monster' to die and all will be good!
And hey, I made it through a stressful day at work complete with appraisal on about 5 hours sleep... so I reckon tomorrow will be a doddle!

It's quiet on here today  Hope you are all doing okay and haven't given in to the temptations of the evil weed.

    Day 14 of 2006 and I am still a non-smoker :D:D:D:D

I have had a reasonably good day. Felt a bit off this morning but that was due more to tiredness rather than withdrawal. Still the worst time for me if after dinner. Just finished eating about 20 minutes ago and had 4 puffs of my nasal spray. I will be glad when I no longer need these. They are costing me a fortune! Went to chemist on Friday and bought 2 more and it cost just under £40  Still, I suppose that is better than the usual £50 - £70 a week I used to spend on cigarettes :A

Anyway, hope you are all okay,

    Ember x

Hi all. 2 Weeks Today for me as a non smoker!! Yipee! Am feeling very proud of myself today. And I do think everyday gets a little bit easier. Although a cig crosses my mind many times each hour im not as angry with each craving... if that makes sense?!

Well done to all others who have stayed smoke free! Esp. EMBER and LOVINGITIFITSABARGAIN who have been invaluable to me this week. Cheers guys. Keep up the good work hey!
