Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 24rd of November. It is is an ‘over the garden fence’ type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome; please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.
Morning. It looks cold, dark and windy out there today. I have work later and could have gone to Birmingham, but turned it down last night. It might have been nice to have an away trip, but then everything else I had planned in the office would have been cancelled.
So today is the big day. Is the Governement going to give us more money to spend? Like one called said on a radio phone in last night
" If VAT was reduced by 2.5 % would all the restaurants and takeaways change their menus and bring the price of each meal down?" Well I think we know the answer to that question.
Are shops going to change the price of everything? I don't feel as though I will be going out spending anyway.
Well, I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning N9EAV - I'm also waiting for the news from the Government but I doubt it will help ordinary people and, whatever it is, I don't think anyone will suddenly go out and start spending again. Everyone I know has changed their spending habits over the last few months and I don't think anyone will go back now that they have found ways of cutting down.
Beemuzed - thanks for the concern. I get early morning calls from friends in France, Belgium and Cyprus - they're all an hour ahead of us and forget the time difference! This call was from France and was just a social call!
Yesterday flew by so I didn't get time to come back on here. I was busy in the kitchen in the morning and was invaded by visitors in the afternoon.
Dinner today is shepherd's pie and pudding will be the bread-and-butter pudding I shall make later.
It's not too cold here this morning so I hope it stays that way. Yesterday it poured with rain in the morning but brightened up a bit in the afternoon but there wasn't enough daytime left to make the most of the washing line, so all the washing is on the airer upstairs. I now have a big pile of ironing to do today.
I'm back at work on Thursday and Friday and then that's me done until I cover the emergency shifts for two days after Christmas.
I hope everyone is well and that those with snow and freezing temperatures are coping.
I'm at home all day today - yay! - so I will call back in between doing my own work-from-home.
Have a great day, everyone.

Morning! Today is my third MSE day! I'm on my last but one night shift before my contract terminates so I have spent the past 7 hours reading MSE! Hopefully I've learnt something!
I was hoping for a NSD but remembered I have a mystery shop later - so that will be a few pounds. Allocating our family £10 per day for everything except OH's travel. Have just under £40 to last until the weekend, I have a car with a full tank of petrol and at least 10 family meals in the freezer.
I don't think a cut in VAT will benefit us as I doubt it will be passed on to us. I don't reallly understand all that too much. It's not going to make people spend more anyway is it? If people make a saving on one thing they won't spend it elsewhere, they'll put it towards their gas bill!
My plan for today (after a few hours sleep) is to list 5 items on ebay, send off two job applications (need to complete 8 before next week) and chase up £49 I am owed. I need to find £1000 before end of year to cover January's bills.0 -
Very early start for me - lots to do today though. We've had visitors all weekend so it's a quick tidy round before I start the working day. Home made veggie stew and mash for tea and maybe a sticky toffee pudding if I have time
Hello to everyone :hello:0 -
Morning all
Chilly here this morning, maybe it will brighten up later.
DS's washing is hung over the radiators, hopefully it will by dry by this evening for him, he likes fabric softener in his washing (he provides it) so the house smells lovely.
My lodger bought me a Panatone & some biscuits as a thankyou present, how kind of her. I've stashed them in my Christmas cupboard along with the chocolate biscuits I was given last week.
I'm going to the butchers today to order my Christmas meat, fortunately it is the only real expense we have at Christmas as we only buy token gifts, DGS is getting a climbing frame & we will make a small contribution towards it, not sure about DGD as she is still too young to care.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

morning :hello:
I'm wondering about how sellers will approach their prices re VAT too, it didn't take them long to adjust the prices when VAT went up did it?
I've got main present already for DD (camera down from £195 to £130 thanks to hotdeals) and DS (football shirt) so I'm going to leave all the rest until I have a few days off mid Dec, and hope to grab some bargains
having lunch from work today, the salad bowls are great value, all you can get in the dish for £1.12, includes tuna, cottage cheese, ham, cheese too, I always drink water in the canteen as it's free and I can make hot drinks in the office if I need one
Dinner is lamb steaks and cous cous and veg
tesco have lots of 'bargain price' goods in store so we are trying them out, the tinned tomatos are great and so is the flavoured cous cous
I had the heating come on at 6.30 for an hr so was warm when we got upand put all todays clothes over a radiator so they could be put on warm
off to put my face on now

Morning all,
Dd is watching last night's Strictly -she has watched the Night Fever routine 3 times now.
Breakfast
I've just had hm yogurt and stewed quince, the kids had beans on toast.
Lunch
The kids have got ham rolls, muffins, apples and clementines. OH has cheese and onion rolls with rocket, muffin and apple.
I shall have hummus, crackers and carrot sticks plu fruit.
Supper
Leftover lamb (from braised lamb shanks), made into a stew with frozen pumpkin, chickpeas, carrots, dried apricots, a carton of passata and some spices. Couscous.
After I get back from the school run I shall prepare the stew so that it'll be ready to put in the oven before I take dd swimming this evening. Then after a quick coffee it's off to my French lesson.
Dd is watching Strictly again:rolleyes:0
