(((Hugs))) to you RedRuby - hope you have a really easy day.

Beth (((hugs)) to your family - such a worrying time.

(((Hugs))), too, to Smoky, PenPin, Tristan, Tired Mum's DD and Sistercas's DD.

I've just made a bread-and-butter pudding using some stale currant loaf so I hope it turns out. I'm just about to prep the veg for dinner and then I have the ironing followed by office work. I made some brilliant scones in the Remoska yesterday from a recipe on the Remoska thread - best recipe I've found for scones.

Thriftlady - I wish I'd recorded last night's Strictly - I loved Vincent and Flavia's dance - one of the best things I have ever seen; I'd love to see it again. I was disappointed that Jodie went.

Well, must clear up the breakfast things and get a wiggle on. DH has only just left so it's been a slow start for me today.

(((Hugs))) to all who are anxious or in pain or unwell.

    Morning Possums,

Well we survived the weekend. It was an awfully hot day on Saturday when we were moving XDIL. I mowed their yard which was nearly up to my waist. Had to stop a few times as I felt faint. :D Nobody took pity on me so I soldiered on. Sunday we both worked at home and played catch up. Used my new electric whipper snipper & handled it well. I must be a fast learner. ;)

Today been catching up with housework & then some more yard work. It's looking nice. Having DGS the next four days so will be busy with him. Going shopping & library tomorrow. Tea was leftovers & ice-cream, jelly & a punch in the belly. :D

Happy Belated Birthdays to those that celebrated.
Smoky I think it would be good for him to talk it over with someone. He's bound to be hurting. I know I carried on like a pork chop for a while after my father died. :o
Ruby Maybe a few nips will help. :D I mean drinks, not Japanese men btw. :p

<hugs> to everyone else not feeling well. Hope you all have a lovely day. Did I tell you it was hot here. :D Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Re the sunflower seeds I am phoning today to have a moan I'm so cross..
I've got all my invoices for the last few months as it saves me keeping a written pricebook so I always know what I paid and when.
I've not been able to get any codes to work either and am refusing to do a shop until I can at least get my delivery paid for with one :p
Wonder if they'll notice seeing as I've shopped with them since I left home and have had it delivered since they started it,more years ago than I care to remember..Will update later :D

  • It is so cold here!

I haven't been checking in - it's hard for me to post at the weekend. So to all that I have missed - hugs and hugs and hugs.

Feeling a lot better on the new tablets. It's odd, but the smaller dose seems to be having a greater effect. Which means that I have very little excuse to avoid excavating all the dirt out of the kitchen.

Actually little bear is really bunged up and green nosed. He still has an early morning bottle but he couldn't breath through his nose while he drank so he took ages to snuffle his way through it. I've given him some medised and olbas oil is in the air.

Washing machine on. I'm wondering about making soup for tea, as yesterday I found a recipe for potato and sweetcorn soup that looked very pleasant. Dear heart is below par as well, so a nice bowl of soup would perhaps go down well.

As dear heart is below par we had a takeaway last night so he could have a curry (I can't cook them right). Little bear and I didn't join in the curry but had chicken strips with fries and there was so much chicken that evil cat had a bowl full of leftovers. She is very happy. And full.

Not sure where to start to day, so I will just start with the nearest and trundle on.

    Hugs to all.

  • Morning all :hello:

An unexpected day off for me - DD2 has a very chesty cough and I have been up in the night on Buttercup Syrup patrol. She is now on the sofa, after eating two bowls of last night's chicken and butternut squash stew/soup concoction, which just "grew and grew" :rotfl: Not an obvious breakfast choice, but chicken soup is meant to be good for colds, so I wasn't arguing. Plus milk makes her worse.

So today I think I will have a little catch up on here and then do some cleaning.

I hope you are all well and hugs for those that want them

Oh! Not O/S but - DSis and I are going to see Carmen tomorrow night, we are very excited :j
  • Morning everyone- hope you aren't all frozen!! Its not too bad here drizzly and cold!

I have another stinking cold thanks to my little boy and am feeling a bit rough but needless to say no chance of just vegging today!

Have emptied and reloaded dishwasher, cleared up breakfast and tidied lounge and kitchen and our bedroom. Have opened and shut my dds rooms cos its too awful to venture into:eek: - Guess what they will be doing after school??!

Have just made a batch of mince pies as we have Housegroup from Church here tonight- Its my sister's birthday today and I am supposed to be going out for dinner with her and her hubby but don't really feel like it so may cancel and do housegroup with dh instead- shall see how I feel later!

Used my new food processor to make pastry and it was really good - I dropped the other food processor last week and it smashed:mad: - I brought it back from the States with me and it was great but couldn't even get replacement bowl and lid on Ebay so it had be junked!!

Right- off to hoover and dust now (ugh!).

Betheebee- What a good friend you are- your poor friends coming back to that chaos!

((((hugs)))) to all who feel poorly this morning.

    Good morning all!

Really cold here, gone back to bed to catch up on some sleep but have been playing on the pooter instead, sigh! Got ds off today, he was sick in the night, hopefully just a 24 hour bug and finger's all crossed that he doesn't pass it on!

Have been busy doing all sorts the past few days, meeting up with friends and then took the kids to see Santa in Harrods on Saturday, then off to visit mother in law and hand out family pressies. Brother and sis in law were chuffed to bits with their hamper of homemade goodies, had included pickled onions and chilli chutney as requested lol! Also marmalade, jam, onion chutney, apple chutney, blueberry jam, raspberry jam, crab apple jelly, truffles and choc coated peppermint creams, oh and Christmas cake and pud, and a bottle of homemade plum wine, hope that one doesn't poison them!

My mother in law now thinks I'm totally round the twist, as every time she tried to chuck something out I grabbed it and wrapped it in foil to bring home! I don't think she could decided whether I'd lost the plot or was poverty stricken. As the daughter of a miner times were often hard when she was young, and I think she sees living in an old style way as reminding her of having very little, so she doesn't do it! Funny that one of the kids favourite treats is something she introduced us to, potato scallops, basically thinly sliced potato fried in batter, her mum used to do it to make one potato go round the four children. My four love it!

It was quite nice yesterday to wake up to snow, the kids were really excited as we don't tend to see much in Somerset, well there's plenty on the hills in winter but it doesn't settle in the gardens, we're too close to the coast and the gulf stream apparently?!

OS wise today I've washed up and put the BM on, not much else to do as the house didn't get in a mess cos we weren't here! Will be pasta with cheese (courtesy of mil) and bacon (leftovers from bacon joint last week) with garlic bread (not hm, 50p in morrisons!), followed by treacle tart (again from mil). Lunch was pack ups for the kids, cheese sarnies for dd1 and dd2, veg sticks and crackers with a pot of cream cheese for dd3, yoghurt, choc biscuit, apple, pineapple.

Need to go and collect dog and debating whether to pop over to Asda and get a copy of Mamma Mia! Hope everyone has a good day, hugs to all in need xx

  • Also just had a call from my darling father. He is coming to stay on Saturday!

Now that is delightful, but the delight is tempered with the :eek: at how much housework to do. You see, over the last few weeks there have been times when making a cup of tea has been a real challenge. I do loathe depression with intensity and passion. I therefore invite you to imagine the state of a four bed, three reception, large kitchen that hasn't been cleaned properly for a considerable time but has been lived in by an enthusiastic toddler and a cat that sheds hair as a hobby. My darling father, many years ago, was a squaddie and his mother was a parlour maid who tried to keep up the standards after she married.

It is one of those oddities. I am nowhere near the standards of my father but my mother's family were not very good at housekeeping. In fact, au contraire. Dear heart will not allow little bear inside my darling uncle's house because it is dreadfully dirty. Like on a documentary. It is also crammed with 'stuff' so one good pull and all sorts could come tumbling down. Little bear instead gets to play in the garden. However my mother's family in many ways are much more OS in that they recycle, reuse and don't buy unless they have to (gadgets don't count for my darling uncle! also toys for little bear who is spoilt!). So I suppose I am nearer to my mother's standards, but aspiring to my father's standards, but in an OS way.

So I am likely to be passing through this week in a trail of :eek::eek::eek: because while my darling father will not be horrid to me it would be better if the house could be nice for him. Also where I had shingles is really really hurting. And while it is a great incentive to give the house a really good clean before Christmas - it will be done at a limp.

And so many people are worse off than me, and I am not taking this as anything but a challenge. So the  are likely to be a lot tongue in cheek.

Little bear is in his playpen, needing to play in the warm quietly, so he is safe. I am going to start at the bottom of the house and work up. I have four floors. Darling father is unlikely to reach the top floor. I have five days.

Also, this is not a posh house but a back to back with a converted cellar and attic with lots of very steep stairs. 'Would suit diy enthusiast.' I aspire to Lady Sybil's unflinching strength when faced with difficulties not her lifestyle. Also the council would probably not grant a licence to keep dragons in built up area.
