Morning All!
Well the thing that has made me happy today is that Santander have repaid the £0.63 from my CC and MBNA have refunded my £119.17 - both showing as in my A&L account this morning!
Will bank the cheque from Halifax at lunchtime (I have an early lunch so the Post Office will still be open!) and then all I need is the cheque from Tesco CC to turn up and tomorrow I will pay off the ickle balances on the Egg cards.
Not a lot else to report - off circuit training tonight!!!
Have a happy day everyone, Natsstart = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225

Why is nothing ever simple?
Conversation below took place at my local Post Office today....
Me "I understand that I can pay money / cheques into my A&L account here"
Staff "Um - yeah. You need a brown envelope and a paying-in slip. I can sell you a brown envelope!"
Me "Do you carry the paying-in slips, as I don't have one / any?"
Staff "No. You'll need to get one from your A&L branch."
Me "So - I need to go to my A&L branch to pick up a payin-in slip and then I can pay my cheque in here?"
Staff "Yep!"
Me "But I could pay my cheque in at the branch anyway - no need to come back here! But getting to my branch is pain!"
Staff "Do you need a brown envelope?"
Honestly - I ask!!! lol
So, I am now going to toddle off to my local A&L branch on Saturday. I will pick up a batch of paying-in slips though as the Post Office is much more convenient! (wasn't going to tell the counter-staff that!)
Right, lets hope this afternoon at work is a bit more straight forward. Am feeling a bit tired today and would dearly like to back out of circuit training, but have paid and I take a friend along, so wouldn't be fair on them either. I'll be fine once I'm there - its just the thought of going at the moment.

Well, here we are at the beginning of another week!
Not a huge amount to report I must admit.
Worked an extra 6 hours on Sat (boo because I couldn't pay in my Halifax cheque - but yay for extra pennies!) so that will appear in this weeks pay-packet. OH still hasn't sorted out an account for me to start repaying him into. I think this may change this evening as we are a 'money evening' - his idea, not mine!
Primark have just opened a store in my local town... as the nearest one was previously about a 40 mins drive away, I thought I would set myself a budget of £25-£30 and go and take a look on Saturday.... so I did. Have decided that I am not a fan of Primark, so went to New Look insteadwhere I was more than impressed with my purchase of a pair of jeans. Originally marked up at £30, then with a buy it now reduced label of £25 - not too bad I thought, so went to the till, and they went through at £12!!!
Happy days indeed. So I went back into Primark and came out armed with a black v-necked jumper, a scarf and a pair of black leggings for £10. Total spend £22.00. Only downside is that I now need a pair of black high-heeled boots, and this winters fashion seems to be for flats again, but I will find a pair (probably when I have given up and have no money available to spend! lol)
Still haven't banked my Halifax cheque, and I am still waiting for the one to come through from Tesco. Opened the post on Sat and received my internet password for online banking for Santander - only 3.5 weeks after asking for it! Shame I am going to be closing it now!I might have a look and see if I have any paying-in slips at home for A&L and then I can go back to the Post Office fully armed!
Nothing else really - hope you are all well and the week has got off to a good start?

So, I dug out my (rather dusty and unused) A&L cheque book, located a paying-slip and took it to the post office today..... to find the queue was out the door. So I turned on my heel and will try again tomorrow!
Still, I got £20 off my boss yesterday - just because... so shouldn't grumble I 'spose!
Hope you are all ok - its very quiet on the diaries at the moment!start = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225

Actually it's not that bad.
Might be getting made redundant with the cuts in public service spending however then again I may not.
I've gor £5000 outstanding on CC's (eeek) and although I should be really trying to pay them down, part of me thinks I should pay the minimum, stash the extra away into a bank account, and then if I am made redundant I can use the stash to carry on paying the minimums...Start Date: 27/11/2010

Hi IF!
Well, in all honesty its not that bad! (Had visions of you going on a series of mental shopping sprees!!! lol)
I think your plan to 'stash the cash' is a good one - just remember if you don't get made redundant that the stashed cash needs to be paid of the cards and not frittered!
Hope all works out well for you - keep us posted!

IF i know how you feel, i also work in the public sector and am at risk. I'm madly saving to pay off a loan early. I should have enough in April next year, which would pay it off 16mths early. I've already started asking myself whether i just keep that money and continue paying the monthly payments, or actually pay it off and reduce my monthly out goings. At the moment it's my only emergency fund so i can't decide which way to play it.0

We're not only batting off the budget cuts, but also have a departmental re-organisation underway which had started before the general election, so even if the re-organisation gives me a job, the budget cuts might not. I'm not too depressed about it though. Have started preparing by getting mortgage cover (£31 per month) and trying to stop spending.
The way I see my stashing idea is that just say the worst happens in April. I can only afford to pay £200 per month off between now and then. That's £1400. Paying that amount off will not reduce my minimum payments by that much (say £50 per month) and the minimums on at least £4000 will still need paying. Wheras having £1400 stashed away will mean I have an emergency fund to fall back on to pay 3 months mortgage til the cover kicks in, and then some left over for the minimums.
However can I really afford to stash away £200? I think I need to do another SOA.Start Date: 27/11/2010
