Had a quick 'tot up' of my debts last night - and was mildly nicely surprised!

Total is about £16,700 - with £2700 of that belonging to OH (his half of our joint c/cards) - so that leaves me with £14,000 as near as damn it. Which is not too bad I 'spose!! lol

Now if my darling OH does stick to his plan of paying off everything and then me paying back my part (£14,000) then that would make me a very happy girly. I current pay out £468.50 to 'serivce' these debts each month, plus whatever else I can top them up with. So what I have proposed to OH is that I pay him back at £100 per week. So on a 4 week month I will pay out £400 and on the odd 5 week months, I will pay out £500. I will repay £5,200 in a year so by my calculations it should be cleared in 2 years and 9 months!

Just going to have a little play with my spreadsheet to make sure that this is viable! Be back when I know!

I love a good plan - it may not work.... but I love a good plan!

Geek? I resemble that remark! lol :rotfl:

Hi OBNW - see your writing has been more than a little lax recently too! ;)

Right, so I have played around with my spreadsheet (I do love it - and I'm not afraid to admit it!) and £100 / week is fine! Ideally I would like to start repaying him at the beginning of August or if I were to be really cheeky, the 3rd September - that would just give me a few weeks to bolster my reserves etc. I will have to have a word and see what he thinks!

I just need my darling OH to get his finger out and sort out the money... that sounds a bit harsh, but it was his idea and now I have got used to it, I just want to get on with it (I blame my impatience on being an Aries - honest!) Our debt repayment is approx £530 (min) a month and I worked out last night that we are being charged about £193 a month! So its gotta go - and the quicker the better! Just don't like asking him for it!! :o

Right, well thats it for me for now - I will be back soon.... Promise! x

sounds like a very good plan to me, and it's not a bad timescale to work to either.
    glad to see your update

Ooh, will you look at that - we have almost the same outstanding debt balances! (is that something to be proud of? Yes I think it is!)

Looks like you are still on the ball and tackling your debts head on - well done you! I go through phases of being really interested and then really not.

I am going to set the repayment to my OH up as a SO to go out every Friday when I get paid and then I can't not pay it!

Keep up the good work Lemon Tree! x

guess it's something to celebrate that we've both reached this level on our downward slope.
I'm with you on the phases, but mine all seem to occur in the space of each month. i do overpay debt but then i end up spending when i shouldn't so have less to pay the following month. Wish i could get out of this habit
  • Hey, where are you?
Come back I miss you :(

    I'm here! lol

Not been writing as not a lot to say really.

Hopefully tonight is the night that I get to sit down with OH and sort out the money thing. That would be handy as it would stop my loan DD going out next Monday for £250. :D

We have a holiday booked for 3 weeks time. 10 days in Turkey, OH's 'treat' as we haven't been away for a while. I feel a bit guily but, after the couple of years we have had I do think we deserve a bit of a relax in the sunshine! :o In my defence, I have made him scour every inch of the internet to get everything as cheaply as poss, so that eases my guilt a little!

I have been given a payrise! :j About £1,200 a year, so about £70-£75 a month after tax, NI and my student loan goes out. Won't know until this Friday when I get paid how much my student loan repayment has gone up by, but as they say "every little helps!"

Other than that, not a lot to report. Just need to pin my OH down and sort out paying everything off so I can start repaying him instead! (once paid off, I am going to have a ceremonial cutting up of all-bar-one credit cards!) Just going to keep the Tesco one as we can earn more clubcard points / vouchers using it (solely for food shopping!).

Hope everyone is well? Many congrats to Rags for the news she passed on on her return from holiday!

I will be back when I know how much my payrise is actually worth in my pocket each week, my debts are cleared by my OH and I have a new plan in place!

Keep smiling everyone! Nats x :D

    Hi natsplatnat,

I have just come across your diary and was inspired when I read it.

I had my LBM on 4th August (5 days ago) and have to admit it took a lot for me to admit where I am right now.

I am having a daily look at my finances and other options about what I can do to earn money and repay my debt.

I have just had a bit of work come my way and will be allocating that to my debt.

Thanks again for your diary. I think I may start one here to when I have a bit more to say.

    Keep up the good work.

Hi dbushes, glad you enjoyed reading my diary - I look back at bits every now and then and think the majority of it must seem like pure drivel!! ;)

A diary is definitely a good thing to do (simply look at the number of them on here to realise that!) it keeps you on track and when you are having a bit of a wobble and thinking 'is this all worth it?' (which we ALL do from time to time) you can look back at how far you've come and realise it is most definitely worth it.

Best of luck for your debt-free journey, hope its a fairly straight road for you!
