Friday 21st November

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Fri21st of November. It is is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all

Where is everyone ? tucked up in bed I hope, no rain here yet and no sign of the cold weather they promised, but we will see.

Off to w**k again today, finish at 2.15, so not too bad, need to pop to the post office and collect a parcel, and will put a wash on tonight.

Might do a mince pasta bake for tea, nice and easy, dd will just have pasta and sauce, as she loves that  .

Hugs to all in need, stef and dd, taplady and friend, diva and friend, Wanna BS and anyone else,

Have good days all xx

  • Morning RR & all who cross/follow
Yesterday was the day from hell, the kids were dropping like flies with a sicky bug, one child claimed to have broken his foot & wanted a wheelchair, he was upstairs so that was a challenge! One child complained about the med room being boring as he had to wait 40 mins for his mother to turn up & collect him. I have a couple of children who come to me when the need a bit of time out & both of those visited me yesterday.
Lets hope today is better, but somehow I doubt it. I need to pop to the shops on the way to work, I made loads of cakes yesterday, but need to get some fruit for those who are on diets.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning everyone:hello:

    Hi Redruby;)

Got a splitting headache -too much wine last night:o

I made my mincemeat this week and today it is Christmas cake day.I shall make a some bread today too.

We have some cod for super tonight. I shall probably cook it simply with lemon and a drizzle of olive oil. I'll do some oven fried potatoes with it (chips).

    :hello: I'm here!

Just listening to the radio & apparently it will be blizzards & cold this weekend.... brrr!

Just about to have a quick bath, then work - hopefully with an earlier finish than the rest of this week

Got a list of jobs for when I get home - tidy heap of clothes on bedroom floor (:o), drag dyson round, make meatballs from 2 packs of y/s beef mince & make tomato sauce from last of y/s toms. Need to visit Mr T to pick up the bits we need for the weekend, but also going to local farmers market tomorrow, so will get veg etc there.

Can anyone suggest somewher to buy "nice, proper" Christmas cards? I've looked at Mr T & Mr A but they don't have any with a regular "Christmassy" look, i.e. no crib scene and very few with non-religious "peace" or "joy", however there are lots with baubles, puddings, trees, presents, glittery snow scenes, even shopping (not ideal in the current climate!) but apart from tiny kiddy ones ...... Think it will be a dash into the charity shops to find some more acceptable ones!

Hugs to all in need, have a good (if chilly!) day :)

    Floss x

I've been chasing spammers around the board   thanks thriftlady for reporting them - saves me a job :A

Good morning :j :T  It's Friday and I'm having a baking day :T :T :T I want to make a cake, some cookies, an apple pie, calzone, garlic dough balls. I have my Christmas cake ingredients soaking, so want to add some more brandy to them, and make sure I have enough ingredients for the pudding (which I'll make next weekend) and the mincemeat (which I might make this week).

Happy Birthday to Hester :bdaycake: and Chipps (if you're still around)

Just been chatting to Gingham Ribbon who sends her love to everyone :j She's been reminding me of the joys of small children :o Not sure I could go back to that :o

Have a great day everyone, I'm off to make a pot of tea for the children.

Morning all, Been up ages browsing the net due to my arms giving me jip.
Have been making a list of things to do in readiness for Crimble, plan to get DH to bring stuff down from the loft to see what I have bought throughout the year, I did make a list then promptly lost it.

Got some YS duck breasts y/day so that's dinner sorted. Still have a pile of ironing stacked up, think I'll do that later as it's one productive way to keep warm. I ordered a load of logs but they wont be delivered untill Thurs. My supplier needs his bathroom painting so we struck a deal, I decorate and he pays me in logs. Love this type of deal as no money changes hands. I popped around last night to view the room and plan to start tomorrow.

Lots of hugs for D&DD, STEF, MSD and friend, PENPIN MEANMARIE, TAPLADY, CANDY, (haven't seen yah for a while) SYBIL, CHEAPSKATE, LAMEWOLF hope today's meds check is not to harrowing for you. SMOKIE, how are you, you're missed lots. extra hugs to anyone I've missed.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY HESTER _party_

I get mine from Cards for Good Causes - huge choice and a bigger than average donation to the charity of your choice ;)

I've had to delete a couple of posts giveing medical advice:

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this: Sorry, giving or asking for medical advice is not permitted on this forum as it’s not what this site is about. While discussing medical insurance policies, cheaper ways to see consultants, cashback for alternative health treatments and how to get specific medication cheaper (legally) are all perfectly acceptable we ask you specifically not to discuss what to do in the event of certain medical problems (please see this rule on the Health Board). If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

 Hester - Happy Birthday, hope you have a great day.

Floss - have you tried the charity shops?

Not cold here today but very windy.

Am off work with OH today so about to dry my hair drop DS round DSis then will be off. Will probably be delivering in the west end so that will be fun - am taking packed lunch but will treat myself to a starbucks.

Have listed all my stuff in my outside freezer and theres not much real food so will try and use that up this week and do a big stock up next week. Not sure what is for dinner today - something quick with chips.

Best be off, have a lovely Friday.
