kids are playing quite happily. DS1 came in from playing earlier and announced he had found a tyre!!??? he told me he thinks he could get a fiver for it lol (a mini MSE os'er in the making eh!)

i am planning on having another look at the budget this evening to see if i can pay off my cc with £400 balance on by end of feb (at 28.9%) and balance transfer my £400 from other card (27.9%) as they will do a balance transfer at 6.9% which is much better than im paying at the moment.

Quite a productive day, some washing done will iron later in front of television. Quick tidy up and hoover. Defrosted one fridge and will do the other when have a new large chest freezer deliverd on Thurs (from Argos sale).

Just about to do a hour in my office so quite pleased with myself.

Also nearly forgot- took dog and children for much needed walk and fresh air.

Gonna look on the index's now as have got gammon left over from Xmas and want to try in the slowcooker.

Hi Yall, If your email stops working on the first day of a new year and you are caught in the middle of a bomb scare on the second day would it be prudent to bury yourself under the duvet and wait until 2007? Any hope that 2006 is going to bring anything better than 2005 are fast dwindling.

Having scrimped (with the MATHLETTS chipping in a bit) I took two of them to see Narnia this afternoon. We were just getting into it and chomping down our treats (bought from home) when the film is interupted and we're all told to leave asap. The cinema was packed, on a second floor and full of tottering grans and gramps taking little charges to the flicks. Through another empty darkened screen room and one fire excape later we are in the carpark and herded away from the town centre. After a bit of hanging around and trying to text on a phone that has a flat battery  We're told to go home or a least as far away as poss. Is the whole world going mad, gun and bomb crazy? I live out in the sticks where is someone mows their lawn before April it's news and there's a public outcry? We do woodturning, country dancing, pickles and preserves but we don't do bombs!

I don't know what to do now (not being up on terrorist etiquet) Can I get my money back from the cinema or get to see the film for free or do I just write it off. I'm not bothered about my money but the MATHLETS paid for half their tickets. Any ideas?

    Happy New Year everyone.

((((hugs)))) to kiwichick, sometimes things are never as bad as they seem to be, thinking of you.

Just got in from my first trip to the shops since Christmas Eve! Sainsburys have a lot of good reductions and have stocked up on boxes of chocs truffles and liquers with best before date Oct 06 (down from £5.99 to £1.37!) so gift draw is looking well stocked. Also bought 2 sets of bedding (cover, pillowcases and fitted sheet) @ £12.49 a set.

Well we are now going onto half income as oh is retiring this month and is taking some time out before finding something to top up the pension. I am no longer working either owing to illness but although we know we have to be very careful now, since finding this site and taking on board a lot of the information and help, we are at least not quaking with fear anymore! Early days I know so we intend to check out as much as we can on this site.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Sorry Math we posted at the same time, I wasn't ignoring you honest! What a shame your trip was spoilt. I'm guessing it was a hoax but the authorities have to take it seriously just in case. I think it would be worth phoning the cinema as you won't be the only ones to complain and they really should try to compensate you. Good luck!

Math I would definitely ask the cinema as there's a good chance you will be given at least a voucher to see the film another time.

I've got back from delivering my leaflets, and am going to run a nice bubble bath in a mo. Before I left this morning I did get all the upstairs hoovering done, I also hoovered the matress, pillows and on top of the wardrobe as was in a 'thorough' mood. I washed the bedding and took it to Mums to use her tumble dryer.

Went online to Littlewoods site and bought 2 sets of Egyptian cotton towel bales (2 hand, 2 bath towels), and another towel bale that's just standard rather than luxury Egyptian cotton, this set was on BOGOF. In total we paid £11.00 for all these towels! Reason being (apart from the BOGOF and the sale) that you can get £15 off your first order if you spend £25. I am very pleased with this and thought I'd let you old stylers know how good value it is.

Dinner is going to be plaice (no batter or breadcrumbs as I'm dieting) with lemon and coriander couscous and steamed veg.
Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams :)

catznine me too re the big income reduction. It is scary at times. OH went onto 2/3 income a year ago but it coincided with selling the house and moving. I have been dipping into the pot to fund the big things that we need to replace and suddenly the pot is greatly reduced. We will also be on half income due to retirement, in a few months but finding MSE is going to make the whole process much easier to handle.. I am working on a monthly budget starting yesterday and really it takes me back to my early married years when my 3 children were very small and we had one salary. I did it then and I can do it again!!!

Math - good luck at the cinema, I'm sure they should give you either your money back or vouchers for another time!

Saraht - your dinner sounds yummy! Will have to try that myself.

Catznine - thinking of you! Thank goodness for MSE, eh!

    Best wishes to everyone.

  • Math: You are entitled to your money back as you were asked to leave the cinema by the management due to a safety scare - so, ring up lay it on thick about disappointment etc and see what you get. If that fails write to the head office. I once wrote to pizza hut complaining about the state of the toilets and got £15 in free vouchers... result...! OH and I have braved the Trafford Centre for the sales as we had vouchers to spend. Spent HOURS in debenhams looking for 38 short trousers for OH but none to be had (except awful cargo-style ones which I told him he would wear in a darkened room!!!). I did get some velvet scarves from John Lewis (another voucher) - I put £5 to and got three reduced from £20 to £10. They're the sort of thing I like and are "very servicable" which is the only way something gets past my antenna. Did see a very nice suit in Debenhams but the jacket was "reduced" to £89 and the skirt to £49 :snow_laug :snow_laug once I had picked myself up off the floor I pronounced them "not practical" (unsurprisingly)....... OH kept commenting on how all the women's fashion was for "crickets"..... did wander into john lewis's baking section thought (pitiful selection of baking trays) but got two items for £6 in the sale...... now my feet hurt. Remains of OHs chilli for tea (he's decided it would be wise for us to have this available at all times........ as long as he makes it!!) and now I will be putting my feet up having just done the arduous tarting to a new credit card on-line.............. bye y'all..........
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

Catznine, I know what you are going through, we found ourselves in the same position a couple of months ago and it's not easy. Fortunately I am used to being old style being a genuine old Yorkshire lass, so that's not a problem. I think we have the financial side of things sorted but the problem now is getting used to having hubby around all day. He doesn't have any hobbies so is finding it difficult to keep occupied. Hopefully he will find some voluntary work to do. Much as I love him I can't do with him following me about all day. PM me if you want to chat.
