Morning and Happy New Year to everyone

This is my first time back since Christmas Day. Had a good one, but sis and BIL caused some problems, just turning up for food when it fancied them then leaving. Really annoyed me.

Mum and I hit the sales, everything I bought was super reduced, and I saved more than I spent!!

We've bought a slow cooker to really get old styling. Mum's decided to come onboard, and wants to start budgeting more:j so can't wait to get my hands on her!!!

Back at work today, and have three months of early shifts to look forward to:(

Well better get on I s'pose. Got a week's worth of posts to read!!

    Good Morning all,
well it's just getting light here in Kent ,but it's not looking very nice outside.A real january day all grey 'n'grotty.
Joints were playing me up during the night, and I gave in and got up about 5.a.m.
Oh to win the lottery and push off somewhere sunny, but then again I would miss England too much I think. Not the weather just the place, daft isn't it.
The tree is down and packed away for another year,my daughter will get the ceiling dekkies down when she comes round with the baby, not a good idea with my wobbly legs to be climbing on chairs. New Years resolution to myself, stop falling over ,at my age I don't bounce quite so well.
I am awaiting Comet delivering my new printer today. They say any time between 7.00.a.m. and 6.00.p.m.covers all eventualities I suppose.
The annoying thing is I bought and paid for it last week online, and got a really good deal. Yesterday I whacked my old printer in annoyance and growled 'Print you b****y thing! and blow me down if it didn't
It's a bit like me, old and tempremental. So now I am using up the ink to print off photo's. Why it suddenly started to work again I have no idea, but for weeks it would make all the right sounds but the paper would come through very blurred. Weird or what, It's the dump for that one though as I don't trust it anymore.
I am doing a Law GCSE and also a Medieval History course and I really need a printer that is reliable for my coursework. Let's hope the new one is better.
I made some lovely soup last night in my SC and today I will make some Shepherds pies for the freezer. Hope all you poor souls that have to go back to work have a good day, and all those who don't also have a good day.Might start some more knitting today,a small relative has just started as a tweenies ( Baby Brownies )and I have a knitting pattern for a dollies Brownie outfit, I made her a Nurse's one, and a horse riding habit for Christmas, for her doll and she was thrilled. Keeps my fingers mobile and her Mum said that she does nothing but keep changing her dolls clothes. Kids don't change really,my two girls were the same 30+ years ago.Have a nice day everyone.

    Morning all.

Been lurking for a while but im back again, been really busy over the 3 weeks ive been off work (lucky me eh).
My wedding plan is all coming together, I have my dress, shoes, tiara, handbag, undies, favours, table confetti and everything else planned out to be paid for soon.

Back to work back to regular meal times and menu planning again. Its been quite hard planning over the holidays as we have managed to snaffle loads of freebie meals at our parents house its been great. I was really quite ill the week before christmas so nothing was done then.

Must reign in the belt with the wedding coming up… in October. Heee heee hee.
Im suffering from a really bad ear infection and the left overs from a chest infection so lets hope I perk up soon :)

    Morning!

Good luck to all those who are back to work today (((hugs)))!

My kids don't go back to school until Thursday so only 2 more days to keep them amused  Today DS2's friend will come with his sis and mum so that will pass the time, have saved them some b-day cake from yesterday.

We have chicken in the fridge from 2 days ago that OH stripped off the carcass and will make a stir fry tonight with some prawns, peas and rice. He made some nice stock with the carcass and some bits and bobs chucked in - any ideas on how to turn that in to soup? Do you just strain out the bits and season with salt and pepper? I thought I might add some vermicelli or something

Anyway, DS1 has some macaroni cheese left for lunch and DS2 and DD will have some dinosaur pasta :p

    Haave a good day everyone!

    Morning everyone :hello:

Nicve to see both newbies and those returning from their Xmas breaks back again :D

I think we had a burglary last night - someone took my dear sweet (:D) 6yo and left a horrible little monster in his place! Talk about defiance this morning - I watch him doing something he has been told 3 times not to do and when I tell him for the 4th time, he tells me he's not doing it, whilst carrying on  And even worse, I hurt my arm pinning him down to smack his backside! He's so tall and skinny that he manages to get arms and legs everywhere. It's coming to something when you have to resort to home-office approved armlocks to hold the little blighters down :D Anyway, he's calmed down and apologised. He needs the legs running off him today though - he's been cooped up too much.

So, today, I shall ring a friend and see if she wants to bring her boys to one of those play-places (like wacky warehouse) There's a new one opened somewhere nearby that is great for slightly older kids too, so I'll ask her where it is, even if she's not going.

Saved a fortune in the sales yesterday :D Went to Preston because Tradex is closing down. Had to go in becasue got stuck in the traffic jam for their car park, had to jump on people at the till to baggsy a trolley (got the one with the broken wheel too  ) had to fight to get round the store etc etc. Picked up some loo rolls and kids clothes, then thought @I don't need or like this stuff enough to cope with this shop any more' Queues were an hour long etc so dumped my trolley and walked out. Went to a big Boots and picked up some half price make up which will do for nieces b'day, and some 1/2 price cards.

Right, gping for a surf whilst I drink my green tea, then it's porridge for me too.
Dinner will be toasted sarnies (unless we're out) and tea will be a mince dish - cottage pie I think.

    Have a good day

    Hiya JackieO

I asked my mum in NZ to do the same for dd1s birthday. She was given a nice doll for xmas and loves changing the clothes. I remember being given clothes for my barbie that mum had made, loved em.

Mine also LOVE helping out in the kitchen so for xmas I asked mum to make them each their own apron, something quite simple and easy and the LOVE them. We all sit around the table with a bowl and spoon each, kids aged 1, 2 & 3, its messy but great fun.

Hello to everyone! I am really looking forwards to getting involved on the Old Style board.

We are all up here ds(5) and dd(almost 2) both have stinking colds so it looks like we are going to have a day snuggled up at home. All the decorations went down yesterday, I need to clean the bedrooms and have a hoover and then the house will be right, but I have a huge basket of ironing that needs to be tackled.

I am hoping some of the items I bought in the online sales turn up today it feels like I have been waiting forever for them to turn up, I got some fantastic deals for the children who have birthays in 3 and 6 weeks time. Oh is back at work but went back inbetween Christmas and new year anyway so not too much of a shock, it feels nice to get back to a bit of normality.

    Breakfast: Porridge
    Lunch :Sandwiches
Dinner: Beef Casserole with roasted root veggies.
  • New Year, New start.....so far have managed not to go to the shops since Christmas other than to return presents which were an indulgence. Best thing that happened was a tummy bug over the festive season which prevented me from going to the Next sale, therby saving in the region of £150-£200 which is my average.

Going to do an inventory of my cupboards and freexer and have managed to convince my DH that we need only shop for essentials such as bread and milk...have to be patient with him as he doesn't like to be told too much so he has just gone off to the shops with a £5 note!!

DS1 off on a school trip, DS2 and DS3 still in bed but need to be up shortly as back to scholl tomorrow. WHilst starting my cupboard inventory yesterday found 2 packets of risotto rice so mushroom risotto tonight...anyone know of a way to do in oven rather than all that stirring?? He he

Just wanted to say have been reading on this thread for several weeks now and have found you all inspiring.....you have all convinced me that this is the wasy forward so many thanks to you all.

    Morning all!

Fairly dull-looking day here. Washing is done & in TD, D/w emptied & reloading started. Bed made & ironing pile moved into the living room to annoy me in hopes I will get started on it.
DS is still in bed - I have decided to re-start school (he is home-edded) on Thursday, so that will give him plenty of time to play with his new "toy"
He bought himself a laptop - partly with his own savings from his Saturday job, & partly with a loan from my mum (interest free of course). He has put his accounts on to Money, & is planning on keeping track of his payments. Hopefully this will give him an idea of managing his money for when he is older. He is already adept at pointing out ridiculously high interest rates on those annoying ads on TV, and as part of maths, we have looked at how that affects the amount of money paid back.
Anyway, since he bought the laptop he has hardly been off of it. He even took it to the Church New Year's party yesterday. Hmmmm. Hopefully he will be happy to do "school" work on it......
