Hi Catzine, We are living on a quater income and topping up with redundancy cash which is due to run out by the summer so I sympathise with you. A think there are a number of OStylers who are falling on hard times and will need to draw their horns in. Maybe we should start a "are you pips squeeking yet?"thread and try to outdo each other in the impoversished stakes;)

My Dad who comes from a very. very large family jokes about how they had one sausage between 12 of them for Sunday lunch and then nailed the skin to the back of the larder door to rub your bread down each day. He finishes this joke (I hope it's a joke) by telling you the sausage was a chipolata:rolleyes: We may come full circle yet at Family MATH:eek:

Sausage? You could afford a sausage? All we had was the wrappings off the neighbour's wet fish to keep us going........................... :D:D:D

Math we are both chuckling here re your dad and the chipolata! :rotfl:

We were both teenagers in the Monty Python era and probably know off by heart the one about the yorkshire men and the shoebox! You could be onto something there! A friend once told me that you know you will survive anything if you can still laugh about it! ;)

Thank goodness for this board and all the supportive people who come visit! We will be better off than some as we at least have a good pension that oh has paid into over the years. I truly do thank God for that. Other than that my Mum who was truly thrifty having survived the rationing of WWII and passed some of that wisdom onto me, Thank you Mum!

I had to borrow next door's turkey to make gravy with the other day.
When I was young (cue violins) my Mum used to buy a sheep's head to make broth with. I can still see the thing sitting in the washing up bowl soaking before she cooked it. Of course she asked the butcher to leave the eyes in so it would see us through the week. (sorry)

Big Hug - I cannot think of anything you could have done that is that bad! You did not run amok with a shotgun did you????

If you want to pm me to vent you would be welcome and I hope that things get better for you.

Spent all day shopping - got a 2000 watt hairdryer in tesco for £8 so very pleased and been looking for birthday pressie for DD (nearly 12).

Made chicken in slow cooker and did a stir fry when I got back which went down well (did not tell then that the stir fry vag was reduced to 10 pence a pack).;)

Caterina - it will soon be time for your mum to go back and at least you will know that you have done your best.

  • Hi everyone,
I'm feeling a bit fed up today because I'll be back a work tomorrow after the Xmas hols. I know most people will probably be going back tomorrow too, it's just I really don't get along with my boss and he basically makes my life at work a misery, but I can't afford to leave my job  . My New Years resolution this year is ether to get another job, or if I haven't found anything by summer, start an Access course in September to retrain as something else - either a teacher or a nurse, but really don't know which to choose  . If anyone works as either of these, I'm open to advice, suggestions etc.
My other New Years resolution is that no matter how much work gets to me this year I'm not going to whinge about it while i'm at work, because I don't think it does me any favours.
Well today I took the coppers to Asda and used the Coinsorter?? macine. Had £48 in savings, I was really pleased. I've transferred them straight to the holiday savings account which up til now had only a fiver in.
Also this week I've done a menu plan and so should hardly have to spend anything on food so I'm hoping I'll be able to out at least another £30 into the holiday account by the end of the month.
Am just filling up my Ipod with new songs now so the drive to work tomorrow should be a bit more interesting. Will be going back to the gym tomorrow for the first time in about 3 months too, so hopefully that won't be too bad.
I wet to snowboardng lessons yesterday with my boyf, and it was great. I ache everywhere though and have bruises all over. Will have to save a bit more so we can do the second part of the course.
Am off to make lunch for tomorrow now, have a bath and sort out some clothes for work. Hope everyone who's going back to work tomorrow has a good day

    Dear All,

Thanks for all the hugs and PM's, I really DO NOT deserve them. Without going into detail, too much drink on new years eve has led to me doing something unthinkable. I dont want to mention any more. Need to try and get my head around ir first.

Sorry for posting earlier, I should have left well enough alone.

Mrs MW your Mum was clearly ahead of her time. Born now she would call it a bush tucker trial and cash in big time.
