Graham_S wrote:if any of you have any ideas of how to make me (single live alone 34 yr old) tidy my house a bit more i'll be happy. I have vinegar
I'm single and live alone too Graham, and the house is often slightly (ahem) untidy. For a while I gave https://www.flylady.com a bash, but found it a bit too full on for me as I work full time, but lots of people love it. The bit I have kept up (though rather sporadically) is to do 15 minutes at a time then stop. If still in the mood then go ahead with another 15 minutes. I manage to get home for lunch, and using the 15 minutes guide can get the floor swept and the kitchen worktops cleared, and have time to eat. Little and often is the key I think. Not that I am very good at the often part. Another good one is to use time when doing something passive eg when waiting for the kettle to boil to quickly do some chore, say empty dishwasher or washing machine, or take rubbish out.
Leaving housework to accumulate for days or weeks at a time makes it terribly difficult to get the impetus up to tackle it, then it takes ages to do and then the cycle starts again.
Or you could get a cleaner... JOKE JOKE JOKE!!!

i can quite happily walk past a full sink of plates - i don'y like washing up.
i got a new kitchen floor last year - it used to be carpet - it is now slate - i live in a 160yr old house
the amount of bits and crumbs that i have to sweep up now is outrageous. i hate to think what my floor used to be hiding before - Kim and Aggie would have had a fit

He he, mine are always a random shape and I dont care, the boyf always wonders what the mystery shape of the pizza is going to be!
The Jam is delish, and is in the bottle (fully sterilised as per the instructions somewhere on o/s!) and is now cool enough for the fridge. I did a peach chunk and blended cherry combo, and then did a loaf for sandwiches tomorrow and had the left over jam that wouldnt fit in the bottle on a slice, and felt very pleased with myself! Im so impressed with my toy that every birthday anyone ever has in future will get a home made loaf and jar of jam alongside the regular present, just so I can show off!
The chicken has been eaten and the rest dismantled for sandwiches tomorrow and am looking at the carcass deliberating whether to attempt another chicken stock or just throw it away, last time I made stock it didnt look all that pleasant so I froze it, but dont want to do anything with it! I think I might just invest in one of those chicken stock bottles (that french & posh looking stuff) so I dont have to know how it was made, I think the idea of spine bones and gristle boiling up together doesnt conjure up images of nice cooking to me so I might just give the home made stock a miss in future!
Anyway, the kitchen is clean and everything has been done so its time to relax on the sofa, I really want to watch that thing on Sky1 tonight, the one with all the storms and stuff. It looks interesting for some reason. I might also do some ebay shopping too, Im thinking I might need to invest in a MATH as ive noticed my tumbledrier usage being quite high (and in a flat with no garden - the day one of my neighbours downstairs decide to move im asking to look around and move into one as they have lovely little gardens!) and a few more kitchen items like some kind of bread storage device.
Ill also watch some more cooking TV, its been enthusing me all day (nigella's lime and chocolate cheesecake is one of the next on the list to try!) and am writing down some basic recipe's for future use. Whoever said TV wasnt educational!!

i like flylady too... I briefly used it years ago but got in the way of dropping in to do Kellys missions, after flylady was recently mentioned here !
I am happy with the general level of tidyness/cleanliness here , I do abit everyday, prob along the same lines as flylady BUT kellysmissions make you do the extra bit (flinging stuff out usually) so I recomend a visit there!!
to graham, one of the first things I would suggest is...if you dont already do, that is ...
Mail.... see to this the day it arrives, pay bills, file it,or throw out. It makes a difference!0 -

Evenin' all!
WELCOME to megisabel and Graham! :hello:
Beef casserole bubbling away on stove for self and housemate - I'm doing the main course and he's doing a HM rice pud.
re: laptops - definitely recommend it, and am MSE-ing while nice and comfy on my bed right nowThat's it's main advantage, though I have it out of necessity (don't have space for a desktop PC).
Got a good haul of bargains in Tesco's this afternoon as there were some ready meals reduced - shock horror, I hear you say, but they were £1 off for buying 2 - so buying 2 was actually CHEAPER than buying 1...
Am watching the darts at the mo. Time soon to pour us a glass of sherry as an aperitif
Might go into the office early tomorrow as I've got loads to do - especially as I now have to leave at 3pm on Tuesday for my job interview. Must do some prep for that tomorrow evening.

Graham,
I did CIMA in Manchester in the late 80's and early 90's. You are lucky to have your employer's support. It's one less thing to worry about, as the tuition and exam fees are so expensive. Don't worry about being one of the more mature students in the group - you probably have loads more experience than the youngsters anyway. I have met quite a few people who, after years of working in finance departments decided to formalise their qualifications. Good luck to you! (and a warm welcome to OS.)
