    Morning all!

Well, had an AWFUL nights sleep - DS1 was up at 4.30!!! He was adamant it was time to get up!! We managed to get him to go back to sleep (eventually!) but it was a rough night!

DS1 now gone to swimming lessons. I've got a fun filled day of housework to look forward to! Changed all the beds yesterday, but didn't get to do anything else!

Hope you all have a great day!

Breadmaker is already on. Chances are tha tit'll be extremely well used today as I want to put some slices in the freezer for use later on in the week. Will also put the washing machine on, tidy our bedroom and the kitchen and I want to do some baking later on as well.

Great day shopping yesterday...got loads of Boots TD and Aromatheraphy stuff. Its all stored safely in the cupboard to come out at some point as pressies. The space I emptied at Xmas is nearly full again so I'm going to have to get a couple more plastic boxes to store some more stuff in.

OH has started muttering about clearing out the cupboard today....hope he does as I can then fit more stuff in there.

Also mananged to use my tesco points vouchers yesterday to add another 289 to my tally. I'm trying to save as much as I can to use on trips next summer. Trip 1 has been bagged already...working on number 2 now....got to plan to keep those teenagers 'amused'.

    'morning everyone :hello:

Inkie - on the subject of roast potatoes - I do mine Gary Rhodes style and they always come out lovely. Parboil for 5 or 6 minutes, strain in a colandar and sprinkle with flour. Jiggle them about in the colandar so that they get coated in the flour and it roughs them up at the same time. Tipp them in a tray of hot oil - quickly rolling them about and straight into the oven for 45-50 mins.

Yesterday we had a busy OS day. I made apprentice tycoons' celery soup and Glads' parsnip soup and they are now in the freezer in individual portions for lunches in the week. Made 6 lamb pasties - OH & I had one each hot at dinner time (with a selection of veggies) - we'll have 2 today for a snack and the other 2 we'll probably take for our lunches tomorrow. A bit repetitive I know but they are absolutely delicious. I don't know many recipes that can make half a pound of lamb mince stretch to 3 meals for 2 adults :D

Also had a big sort out of the pantry yesterday, so now I can walk in without falling over the saved jam jars, boxes etc. Today we are carpet cleaning, washing and ironing.

Dinner will be roast turkey thigh (from the free range bird we got at Christmas and split down and put into the freezer) with the above mentioned roasties :D and fresh vegatables.

Have a lovely OS day everyone
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D
  • :) Good morning everyone
PP you take it easy today
Inkie,I like to parboil my spuds for 5 mins and then rough them up a bit in the pan before adding to the tin.Goose fat or dripping is my preferred fat but I usually use olive oil(better for you ;) ).

We're having roast chicken, roast potatoes, gravy and veg for supper tonight too also apple crumble with the last bit of HM mincemeat.Watercress and leek soup for lunch with HM bread. Its a v.big chicken so hoping to have the makings of several meals,+ sandwiches and stock.
Not had breakfast yet-I'm not a breakfast person :o but think I will have some fruit as I'm not doing too well with my 5 a day atm.My ds2 eats about 4 apples a day + other fruit.I like fruit, but if there's a choice of cake or fruit the cake wins every time ;) There's a vinegar cake in the tin atm which is lovely.

Have a good Sunday everyone

    Morning all :hello:

Not much to report today. We're going to a rugby match later, followed by popping in on OH's parents. Can really do without it, but we haven't seen them since Christmas Eve. I've got stacks of planning to do for the week.

    Breakfast: Toast with jam
Lunch: Soup (got to keep warm on the terrace :D)
Supper: Ostrich burgers (from Farmers' Market), new potatoes and veggies

I've defrosted the stewing beef to put in the SC tomorrow morning too, so I can get that ready later today.

    Have a good day.

  • Hi

DD & OH out cleaning the car:D and OH has already peeled and chopped spuds for roasties, carrots and cabbage:eek: and its not even 10am yet..LOL Washing has been put on airer by me......dont pass out anyone!!!....well I needed to have a bath and well the bath is upstairs..so DD bought it up for me, and I hung on airer. At least I feel like Ive done something now, other than be fantastic at delegating:p 2nd washload is on ATM-my sister smokes but not indoors, so how come, everytime we come back from her place our clothes, hair etc all stink of fags:confused: Downstairs has been swept and all kitchen wiped down and sink bleached. DW on too.

DD's room is spotless and they are going to get another Gerbil from a reputable seller this afternoon as her other one is missing in action. She said as Im the best mum in the world (suck up or what!!) I may name the Gerbil....lucky me:rolleyes: So I was thinking of calling it Martin, but at the rate my DD seems to be going through her furry friends ATM, I dont think this would be a good idea. So Martin....if your reading hun.....I luv ya, but I dont really want to put another RIP in my back garden....and anyway....your not furry all over:rotfl:

Colchester Zoo-We go here alot as DD has an annual pass which she is bought yearly as a pressie. She wants to work with animals when she gets older and she has making journals etc for the past 2 years and taking photos of the animals progress and how their growing up etc. She wants to be a zooologist...but we will see. I can see her working voluntary somewhere in Africa with the gorillas...she is...animal mad!! The restaurant there is excellent value, and when we went a few weeks back, we got a huge baked spud with chilli and salad for about £3, which for eating out-wasnt bad. I always take a flask and sarnies as back up anyway with crisps and biccies, but I agree that if you stay past lunch, something warm in your tummy will be welcoming. I hope you have a great day. Remember also, that if you are a card member-you get 5% off the gift shop and the food outlets and some good bargains can be had there.

Roast Spuds-I always part boil mine for about 15mins in boiling water. Have a baking tray which is donkeys old and put oil in the bottom and stick in oven on high for 5 mins. Then add the part boiled spuds to it and they should sizzle-then leave in on high for 25 mins, then turn over and spoon over the fat for another 30 mins and they should be about done. Another way is to part boil them, then deep fry them in the fryer. They turn out very crispy this way and if you have bigger roasties they dont seem to taste so oily.

Anyways, I better go as I have some calls to make and want to have a small kip this morning, so i have a little enery for this afternoon.

    Hi everyone :hello:

Didn't get anything much done yesterday bar putting the WM on. Got a call from mum to say she'd had an arthritic flare up and she was stuck in bed. So, spent the day with her, making meals (for when she's ready to eat) and clearing up after her (no detail - but the flare ups affect her tum and there was enough of 'that' the other day, IYKWIM :)) She's a bit better this morning.

So, today I'll have to catch up with the laundry and I have a mountain of ironing. Might have to put ironing board in living room tonight (usually do it in bedroom) as I have stuff on video to watch and the bedroom one is temperamental and tracks differently, so I can't watch home taped videos upstairs (and can't get the bedroom one to tape )

It's a lovely day here so may even get out on my bike. However, there are also some little jobs in the garden that need doing and my car is also desperately in need of a wash - inside and out. I'll try and get boys outside for some fresh air - may help DS1 sleep through (he's coming in at 3am now!!) DS2 slept through last night for first time in nearly 2 weeks - just had a couple of hives on his back last night so I think it may be an allergy to bath stuff - he didn't have any in the water last night but there would have been traces left on the bath from night before.

Right, off to get showered and started on the house (no housework fairy helps me :() No idea what they will be having for tea, I'll hunt in the freezer. I'll be having soup for lunch and maybe a veg curry for tea.

Oh - have to update my sig. Lost 3lbs this week and haven't done any exercise yet :D

PP - just a thought but wouldn't you be better off with 2 gerbils. I understood that they were group animals and didn't like being on their own.

    Have a good day

    Morning all,

Well, when I woke up this morning I was unusually motivated to go to the gym- so I did and got there for 8.30!

Before I left I put our last load of washing on, and will hang it all on the airer in a minute. The 2 loads from yesterday are nearly dry.

All this talk of roast dinners has made me want one too. I have a confession to make- I have never before cooked a roast chicken, only chicken breasts. I can be a bit squeamish and am scared it will be yukky if I have to clean out the inside or anything. A wimp I know!! Maybe I will try to brave it anyway.

This afternoon I have to drive my sister to her work placement as part of her uni course, it's about an hour and a half away.

Booked our summer holiday yesterday- we're going to Switzerland for 5 days at the end of August, part paid for by Tesco clubcard vouchers. Can't wait!

Today I would like to get some more work and study done, the hoovering and cleaning still needs doing but I will ask OH to do most of it as I'll be out for several hours helping my sister.

    Have a good day all,
    Sarah.

    Morning all

Had a lovely anniversary meal last night - food was yummy, as was the champagne (always nicer when it's free). The whole thing was slightly overshadowed by a letter I got yesterday morning from the CSA. They've just done a re-assesment on my ex and they've now worked out he should be paying £30 a week less...As you can imagine, not a happy bunny, I phoned the CSA and the nice chap I spoke to said it looks like an input error on their behalf as he wouldn't expect it to drop by that much when his income has actually increased......Will have to phone again on monday and get it all reassessed but the payment will stick at the lower rate until it's sorted....arrrrghhhhh!! £30 a week is a lot to loose....looks like those belts will be tightend even more in the house of pooky!

Today we're cleaning the car inside and out (hose pipe ban in this area so bucket and sponge jobbie) Sorting the loft and trying to start a few bootfair and ebay boxes and playing board games with DD's.

Brekkie - Scrambled eggs (free from mother) with Avacado (left from last night), fried new pots (left from last nights garlic roasted ones) served with HM rolls and beans.

Lunch - won't bother - DD's will pick at fruit

Dinner - Toad in the hole (eggs for batter from mother) and Sausages (5packs for a fiver from tesco) with assorted veg.

Hope you all have a great day.
