Morning all.
Penny Pincher - hope you feel a bit better soon
Vicky A - I remember getting my first teaching pay cheque - it felt like loads after the training i'd done. I'm sure you'll enjoy spending it.
I'm feeling really lucky today. Me and the DH could have had a very nasty accident yesterday. My car wouldn't start again yesterday, so we had to jumpstart it and were taking it to my BIL to put in a new battery for us. On the way, we lost control of the car, and ended up spinning it and putting it half into a field. We had to abandon it with hazards and jump into the field as the battery was so flat we thought the lights would go.
Luckily, we managed to have lots of people to stop, and the police came within about a minute. A recovery truck was passing and pulled us out of the field, and jumpstarted us again. There must have been a problem with the road surface as there were another 2 cars off the road a bit further along the road.
There was no damage to the car, apart from it was muddy. Luckily the farmer had recently ploughed the field so it was nice and soft, as i've seen other cars on the roof there. Also, as we abandoned car, i fell into the ditch at the edge of the field,, and didn't hurt anything.
I reckon that is savings of £3000 to buy a new car if we'd hit someone else, plus an increase of probably £1000 to the car insurance. Do you reckon i can add this to the pin money savings total??? although only virtual i reckon.
The really spooky thing is i had virtually the identical accident at the same spot 3 years ago.
Should i buy a lottery ticket on Saturday??
Anyway, my plan is a quiet day to recover, write to the council about the shocking road surface, and look after my poorly kitten.
Have a safe day.

Morning all
Queenie - Nice to see you back.
Trying very hard to snow here this morning - had a couple of heavy hail storms already.
Only one little one today but another childminder is coming up for a play session, we're doing the chinese new year theme and will see if all the little ones want to dress up and makes some lanterns.....probably not knowing kids!
Brekkie - toast (followed someones advice and did a half wholemeal and half plain flour loaf -- it turned out fab)
Lunch - sarnies all round
Dinner - Quiche and jackets......a bottom of the fridge quiche today I think.
Finally sussed the crocheting - managed to find a web site that was easier to understand then the book I got from the library, once I'd got into the swing of it, it all came flooding back from when my Nan taught me....was a bit of a tear jerker, could almost hear her saying "see - how difficult was that!" She made both my DD's a stunning crochet blanket each when they were born and I really wanted to learn how to do it so if I ever manage to get pregnant again I can make one for myself, or failing that - I'll have the skills to pass on to my DD's and their kids.....far too many of these crafts get lost down the years.
Anyway - best go dig out the dressing up clothes and stick the kettle on.
Have a good one all."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

Queenie nice to to see you posting and a big thanks for all the support you give eveyone, It's lovely to hear from you now and then.
Tickle mouse you leave me feeling ashamed My old towels are only 5 years old, although my mum is going to have them for her sprogs, I just couldn't resist 4 white bath sheets for £20.
A big welcome wishingonstar, Its lovely to see so many new posters on the boards. Hope you enjoy yourself here.
PP sorry to hear you had a horrid nights sleep again, hope you get to have a good sleep today.
Suerob- sorry your having probs with your step son I totally agree with the tough love scenario, unfortunately my dad isn't as sencible as you, he bought my brother a car before he learnt to drive and has been sat on the driveway for 18 months. But thats dad down to a t more money than sence, although my brother and I very rarely get to see a penny of it.
Well dd 6yo has a friend coming over for tea so I am making h/m kebabs. this is a first for me so hope they turn out ok.
just lots of odd jobs to do around the hose today and the bathroom needs a good clean semms to have been forgotten about the last few days.
Dp only got 1/2 a day of work today, so hopefully he will do some painting when he gets home, one wall needs doing before we eventually move, havent heared about any houses for a few weeks, but we are at the top of the housing list, so wont be long hopefully. Really want to get a garden soon so I can get some fruit and veg growing. Poor postman gets scared to death as I run to the door and see if there is a letter from the housing association. Just gotta keep praying we get offered somewhere different.
will make some bread later and some pizza bases.
hugs to all

Morning :hello: especially to our newest poster wishingonastar :hello: :hello: I hope you find us friendly and welcoming - as long as you're in the mood for a chat you'll feel right at home on here
EDIT: why not post on the "Getting to Know You" thread if you haven't done so already, to tell us a bit more about yourself.
Feeling much better this morning - still got cold symptoms but it's just a bit of congestion and a cough - no nagging paracetemol-resistant headache any more :j :j :j
VickyA - I know where you're coming from with the "treats" all adding up! Yesterday, after a luxury takeaway sandwich for lunch (£3.45), a biggish bag of honey encrusted cashew nuts (£2.78!!!!!) and a copy of Company magazine (£1.99) I used my train journey home to think about the error of my ways. Next thing I knew I was in the Co-op buying 4 packs of diced chicken which were previously on 2 for £5 or £3.29 each, reduced to clear at half price but still with £1.58 coming off per two packsso it cost me £3.40 for enough pre-chopped raw chicken to make about 16 portions
BARGAIN!!!! As soon as I got home I made a yummy pasta sauce and cooked up the first pack.
(Having said that, I still have about £60 unspoken for since my underspend to the end of 2005, so I think after I've worked out if there's any upcoming expense I haven't thought of, I might go and have a little beauty treatment or two myselfI've never had ANYTHING other than a haircut so think I might have a professional leg/bikini wax and manicure)
Queenie - it's really good to see you back and encouraging everybody :T
AussieLass - mad colleague dressed from top to toe in Australia souvenirs tells me that today is Australia Day. So... Happy Australia Day!
Well, it's D-day minus one for boyfriend who is moving into his new flat tomorrow. It means that for the first time EVER we'll be able to spend a reasonable amount of time together, including weekday nights (he used to live almost 90 mins commute from central London, which has been making him tired and depressed a lot of the time. We both hope that one of these days we might feel ready to move in together.
I'll be looking up threads on the storecupboard challenge for the next few weeks - am in trouble AGAIN with housemate for filling up two thirds of our small shared freezer with reduced raw meatI think if I plan it properly I should be able to get away with spending about £5 a week for most of February, and that will mainly be on fresh vegetables. Also I've run out of fabric conditioner - perhaps this will be the moment I decide to switch to vinegar.
Anyway, I have a lot of work to do so I will catch you all later.
EDIT: cha97michelle - SO pleased you're OK (and also no poorer!) after your nasty accident.Operation Get in Shape
MURPHY'S NO MORE PIES CLUB MEMBER #1240 -
Bedding blowing on line and another load in of mixed stuff and towels, that will be put on line also. Toilet cleaned. Cleaner called and asked to come tomorrow instead (which she usually works
) so OH werent happy as beds had already been stripped and put in WM and he had to make the beds-so thats a job she dont have to do now. He said he's going to ask her to do another couple of jobs instead-really dont like being messed around, especially when your not well and routine is important...never mind!
OH has gone into the local town to post 4 ebay parcels, buy some cheap sawdust for the gerbils, buy a cake each for us as a treat and get a jar of Nescafe 200g for £2 from a local cheapie shop. Think as the cleaner isnt here today he is going to hopefully (fingers crossed finish DD's room), he's already cleaned out the gerbils and swept the floor as it needed doing. Also must remember to pick my meds up from chemist.
DD is still off school, have called the GP and he said to see how she is tomorrow. So she is laid on sofa on the bloomin Xbox playing a disney game. Her neck is still very swollen and cant talk clearly....she looks like a chipmunk...LOL. Have called the school to let them know anyway.
Hope everyone is well and welcome Newbies!

Morning all!
Sill feeling rubbish here and to top it off I had a really disturbed nights sleep due to waking up unable to breatheOH is feeling much better, DD is about a day or so behind him so should be fine by the weekend but I'm a day or two behind DD
If I drink another cup of hot blackcurrent & apple juice I think I'll turn into one - 3 cups so far since I got in a 9am from the school run.
Had some good news yesterday, we're getting a new frontdoor and frame on Wednesday, disadvantage is that its an all day job apparently. I'm hoping a new door will help with the temperature in this house and the condensation that forms in the hallway but we'll have to see.
WM on with a light wash, a dark wash waiting. Pile of ironing needs doing but I'm too tired to do it. At least 2 batches of dishes need doing (Mainly baking tins and the big mixing bowl from the bread making session on Monday) as I could only manage to do one batch yesterday as I was so tired. I also need to sort out the budget for the next financial month in my new notebook. I'm hoping I'll be able to juggle the housekeeping enough so that I will be able to transfer child benefit and Tax credits to my savings account instead of spending it and then at the end of the financial month (if I haven't had to dip into it) I'll be able to either buy a new mattress for our bed (£90 for the best one from the shop where we bought our bed) and pay the rest towards our credit card debt. I'm also going to carry on with ebay stuff if I have the energy, so I can earn some money and get the stuff out the house!
Well the washing machine has just finished so I better go find my fleece and get the washing out on the line since it's a nice sunny day today even if it is cold!Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
I knew I shouldn't multi-task on an Admin day - couldn't work out why the BM mixing sounded different, took a peek, flipping thing looks like porridge
(I'm trying a new recipe).
It was only then that I realised  that the recipe said 6 Tbsps and I've automatically measured 6fl oz!! :wall: No way was I going to throw away the slush-dough . Turned it off, reset to a 2lb loaf, lobbed in some more flour, turned it back on and have X'd fingers. So basically, let the experiment commence :rotfl:
If it comes out like a brick, I'll end up making some form of bread pudding with it I think.:hello: Welcome wishingonastar :hello:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

DS1 home from school, had caught my horrible cold so I'm making use of him and getting him to put some of my TAP music on CD for tonights class and hes going to print our show tickets off(save me doing it and he's SO much quicker!)
Brekkie: porridge with golden syrup
Lunch:cheese toastie & salad
Tea:HM fishcakes, salad & few oven chips
RE old towells, I use mine when I'm dying my hair  ( am not really black haired any morequite a lot of white hidden away
) and also use some for dog bathing!
I hope all you fellow sufferers feel better soon!Do what you love :happyhear0 -
Just a quick "check in" to say "hi" to everyone, whilst I'm on a break at work.
Had a successful, (almost all OS) family "do" for DD's 2nd birthday at the w/e. Apart from overdoing the sandwiches (out of interest, how many do others "allow"?), and green salad, there was little waste, which I was pleased about. What wasn't OS, was bought at a good price, and I’ve even rescued the hats for next year!
Work beckons, later……0
