Morning all,
Still suffering from bug but am back in the office for two reasons, neither of which has anything to do with either my commitment to my job or my fitness to be here.
Firstly I have a concert ticket for tonight, and I have a general rule that if I'm sick enough to be off work I'm sick enough not to go out in the evening (even if I'm feeling better by then).
Secondly I need to book some opera tickets which go online for members at 10am (the cheapo tickets always get snapped up really quickly, and there's one show that will sell out if I leave it even until this evening!) and my internet connection at home has not been its usual self for the last week or so.
Oh and I didn't get the job I went for last Tuesdaybut TBH on the info I got from the interview I didn't think it was for me anyway.
Breakfast was a latte bought with a freebie voucher. Lunch will be a Tesco ready meal which I picked up reduced to 50p yesterday.
Hope everybody's OK - more later!

Just had workmen out to the house about the front-door. They said we need a new door and frame
BUT if they suggest a "plastic" one to the landlady it will cost her about £4-600 but only about £200 if she gets a wooden one. This on top of the new carpets may be a problem.
Time for some on-line shopping to find cheap carpets AND UPVC doors. Maybe if I can source them cheaper than the builder then she'll let us have one and still contribute to the carpetsWill have to see what I can do.
Need to do some more computer work today. We discovered last night that our bank records on the computer only go back as far as 2003 as something has gone wrong when we've Archived pre-2003. :mad:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
I NEVER use archive programs these days. EVER. There seem to be too many things that can go wrong. I just do a straightforward "COPY" of all the files I want to keep - that way I don't need a special program to get them back again or uncompress them.
Disk space and CD or DVD's are so cheap there's no reall need to try and squeeze stuff.
I actually have my main bits mirrored on a second physical drive (if you have a partitioned drive - if the bearings fail, for example, you lose both) and then regularly copy the entire contents of my second drive to disk.
Then... I do something people so seldom seem to do - I check that I can read the disk and get the stuff back!Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Seems like we are all having an OK day so far. I'm convinced a tiny bit of sunshine is enough to put you in a better mood, and that is what we have here today. I feel in a good mood because DH managed to get my car jump started and i'll be able to get out and about today.
Kittens are out in the garden. They've been out a while so they will be shattered and probably sleep most of the day again.
I've got another meals worth of left over chicken from Sunday, so i think it will be chicken stir fry for tea tonight. I think i'm going to go to my parents today. I'm going a bit stir crazy at home, and i can have lunch with them. Also give the car a run so the battery won't go flat again.
My sister said she has some baby stuff to show me, as me and DH want to start getting some stuff together to hopefully get pregnant soon. I also got some toiletries sorted out in the BOOTS sale.
Have a good day one and all.

You're not a wise old owl for nothing, hey Squeaky!!
Not much doing this morning in the house of B, struggling to wake myself up enough to get going, and really really need to get some office work done. But no, I'm sitting at my desk, talking to you lot!! No wonder I'm so far behind I'll meet myself coming back at some point!!
Tesco should hopefully be delivering within the next hour, so then I can finally have some breakfast - must get into the habit of eating more regularly. I've got no butter in so cant even have a slice of toast!! Well, ok I could, but it just wouldnt be right.
and here they are - right on queue. See you later!!I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle0 -

But if my machine were to crash right now I could have a new one loaded up with all my favourite software and my data files in an afternoon, and hardly miss a beat. Getting it all to look right and doing all the tweaks one does would take longer, sure, but the basic setup is all safeHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. DS2 was sick with very high temp during the night - so no work for me today!;) With the help of the most wonderful drug ever invented (ie Calpol!) he is sitting happily watching CBeebies. DS1 is at school. Have done 1 load of washing, another to go in shortly. Have emptied DW, polished lounge, put ironing away - oh the joys of an unexpected day at home!!
Dentist for DS1 & 2 (if well enough) tonight. DS1 is OBSESSED with having a 'wobbly' tooth - it's not loose but so many of his friends are losing theirs, he's desperate for the dentist to confirm it is wobbly!!!!
Have sandwiches in the fridge for lunch (made last night - meant for packed lunch), don't know what we'll have for dinner, as dentist is at 4.45pm!
Spoke to boss about work hours - am not reducing but will do my hours over a 4 week period, so will work 3 days per week, and every 4 weeks will need to do an extra 6 hours! This will be manageable (and I'm going to get 2 days off per week, without a cut in pay!!):j

An unsettled night in the land of Zed!
I like my understatements, DD in with me from 01:00 and refused to sleep until 06:30 .... a mixture of life, cold and missing daddyNot a lot I could do about that one. As a result we've finally got up at 09:30 and DD is making me numerous cups of coffee laced with sugar and milk (The joys of an ELC teaset!)
Suspect that OS wise, nowt will get done. We were going to do some baking this morning, but she needs lots of cuddles, so that won't work!
Meant to be going around to a friend's house later, but may invite her and her brood around here, it may break up the day a little.
Bargain_Rzl - sorry to hear about you not getting the job, good luck with getting your tickets
AussieLass - sorry to hear about your bereavement, ((hugs))
Nicki - MS Money should also be known as MS Mangler in my experience! Which reminds me I must check my backups (Thanks Squeaky!)

L - Who knows
D - Something with potato wedges ... but what I have no inspiration!
On that note, I shall go and put the kettle on, there's only so much caffeine you can get from an imaginery cuppa!GC - March 2024 -0
