    its not quite as simple as 'buying and not paying' ...

    Can't you open a throwaway account, then register an out of date debit/credit card, bid and sort of pay, (but it will refuse as obviously the card is invalid)...? :o ((If this is inappropriate, please remove.))

    then he can just relist. yes that would be annoying for him but not half as annoying as ppl buying and claiming the screen is smashed :D
    a taste of his own medicine get a partial refund then sell it for more. sounds like a profit at his expense to me

    Well I hope he sent that email to you through eBay, Shaggy! That's evidence that he doesn't have your phone to return for a refund. And eBay / Paypal knows that he can't have a refund without returning it.

    End of case, as far as I'm concerned - keep your tenner.

    Why are people suggesting that the OP lowers his standards and pulls a trick like being a non-paying bidder??

    Sir, I think you are totally paranoid. WHAT SCAM!!!!
    I buy mobile phones with working lcd's to replace the phones I buy with broken lcd's. Its not rocket science...........It is just a shame that sellers say that the lcd's are working when in fact they are broken.
    The only part usable then is the mainboard and that is why I ask for a part refund to reflect the value of that part.
    I can not return it as I have used the front casing on another phone.
    ==============================

    So they admit to buying phones to resell, but the selling ID is not registered as a business seller...?

    A quick phonecall to these people may do more damage/righting of wrongs, than anything that eBay could impose.

    It may also be worth looking at this page - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/Taxes/ContactOrDealWithHMRC/DG_10010579 - particularly this bit.
    If you know someone whose business is not registered for tax call the Tax Evasion Hotline on 0800 788 887 (open Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm, Saturday and Sunday 8.00 am to 4.00 pm) and HMRC will do something about it. You don't need to leave your name and address.

    please guys,as the poster above said, do NOT lower yourself to his standards or suggest anyone else do the same. Thanks.
  • Reading some of the posts reminds me of what I said to my children many years ago.

    "I can live with my conscience"

    They frequently remind me of this and they have applied the same principles to their dealings, not usually in eBay, but life in general.
