More often than not it seems to be used as (an expensive) quick fix.
The products, if used properly, do have their merits but they are seemingly intentionally oversold (and perhaps over priced)...
Now... finding a decent plasterer- that is another can of worms...
Now the fitting team have usually have 4/5 days training, with no previous experience of using a trowel or plastering at all, they only get paid £8 per mtr for a 2 coat system, so for a 100 meter property they get £800 between 2 fitters, this leads to corners being cut to rush the work to get on the next job, and believe me i`ve seen some corners that have been cut, or just rendered over.
The companies are solely interested in sales, within 48 of the saleman leaving a fitting team must applying the system to the property, some fitting teams have 3/4 jobs on the go at once.0 -

They don`t make it no, and to be honest andura is my least favourite of these systems, i used it once only and it did not feel right, it was like dough even after putting a whisk through it, and was not easy to apply.
There are better systems out there and at a reasonable price, andura, wetherby stone, fenland coating etc have no morals when it comes to selling, i completed 2 properties for 1 of the large companies, the salesmen sold the systems for £19995 & £27000.0 -
We are not all bad who use Andura
I am an aproved Andura installer of the exterior wall coating system. I am not a large company with a sales team or servayors, it is all done by myself thus giving all of my customers a good honest fair price. I do not have big overheads like some big companies who are only intersted in £££s and when problem comes along they close up shop. Now i know it can be expensive but my quotes are based on the measurements of surface areas to be done and with it being my company i am very flexiable when it come to cost's.
so feel free to check me out at -

there you will see testimonals of happy customers
£6/7k for a terraced house front only, 12k for a semi 3 sides an so on, these prices cannot be justified with material & labour cost for a 3 bed semi less than 6k.0 -
i have worked for compaines who have charged customers these stupid prices and needless to say they have ceased trading mainly beacuse they pay peanuts to there sub contractors who do the work as quick as possiable and many problems arise. one job i did for such company chargeda customer £32,000. job took me and three others a month to complete to only receive £2,000.00( i think i was robbed like the customer as material only cost around £ 5,000.) i now do jobs which customers have had thesetype of sales people round0

Does anyone know of a company called Weatherscreen based in W Lancs. I had a cold call by a young chap who gave the impression of being in a hurry but was just calling to let me know about a brilliant new product that would improve my pebbledashed semi. I agreed to have a purely informative visit from a surveyor who subsequently arrived. He claimed to be a "surveyor" with absolutely no interest in selling. However he did seem to be confused about whether he was there on behalf of what he alternately called The Company or "US!". He also just happened to have a portfolio and a presentation pack of sample boards. He was also well versed in the selling game - picking up on my family ( from photos) and interests from stuff in the room, no doubt hoping to create the semblance of empathy! The survey consisted of a few taps on the side exterior wall with a ball-point pen from which he ascertained that I was in deep trouble and work would be needed sooner rather than later.
He offered me the full treatment for £11K but then suggested that if I were to allow a sign in my window I would be allowed £250 for each referral. He could pay for 6 of these in advance ( though he didn`t think the Company would approve) and thus reduce the cost to £7.500K. He assured me that the product was unique to the Company and had the certificate of approval from the BBA. There was also a 10 year guarantee, uniquely backed by Barclay`s Bank. I could have 24 hours to think it over after which the offer would not stand. Oh and he would rather see me benefit that any of the others(?). WOW How could I refuse?
I looked into the BBA claim and guess what? The product approved is in fact Andura. Weatherscreen Ltd, with its 30+ year track record, appears to have been registered in 2006 (or was it 2008 I forget). I think maybe this chap figured that because I`m elderly, diminutive and was prepared to listen that I`m a bit dim. I have to admit that when he returned, probably anticipating a positive result, I felt no sorrow in refusing his kind offer! Has anyone any feed back on Weatherscreen. I`ve googled them but got nothing but their address.0 -

i have just spent 20 minutes reading this thread, and it amazes me what people ( the anduraguard type people ) will do.
I am a plasterer. and swear by my kind of methods. Rendering that is.
How people can charge £22000 for some old pony, i do not know. If a house is rendered or pebbledashed etc properly, and as long as there is no major fault like floods and movement in the house. It will last forever. If you spend a few grand having it done, then every 2 or 3 years spend a few hundred quid having it painted, it will look good for years and years.
To prove how waterproof some things i have done are.......
Years ago we rendered a pond about 25ft square and 7ft deep. They way we done it was one thick concrete coat, plus 3 coats of render, all with waterproofer added. In all the render would be around 6 inches thick. Once it had all dried i then went back and painted a coat of liquid waterproofer on, ( took 25 mins ). Next day done the same.
That was in 1995.
I still drive past and see the pond from the road, and it has never leaked a drop. ( hope i havnt just tempted fate)
So pay a plasterer or builder to render it right. And if they knock on your door tell them to get XXXXXX.
If ( and god help them if they do ) they came to huddersfield and knocked on my door, i would follow them around to every house they went too, and cause grief.:mad::mad::mad:

I stopped there, didn't read anymore. Why on earth people agree to have quotes from cold callers is beyond me. :mad:0 -
I have followed the Andura threads with interest & called weathertex to get a rough idea of cost for my bungalow , A rep called & said at least £5000, I then looked for a local Andura recommended applier ,
He then said he didnt use it anymore & recommended Renotex , now confused , anyone know anything about this finish ????0
