    Hi

Is the problem the materials or the companies that do the works?

From what I have seen the Andura "paint" is trade only and requires high pressure spray system etc. Their site does not do quotes, but simply puts you in touch with an "approved" installer.

I phoned up a local ish compnay that uses the Andura "paint".

Sales guy came out, not pushy at all, left him to it out side whilst he measured up etc,.

Our house is detached, with double garage, approx 3,000 sq ft floor area, so bigger than average and he came up with £10K

He was honest and said that was list price and he can do much better but did not want to say until (if) he got the order as I would just bat him off against other companies.

But based on above stories, I supercity I could get them down to sub £3k or less.

My thought is to get the lowest price out of them, and then half it when I lay the cash on the table for him.

We have done the painting of the house, and yes it looks good for a few weeks, but I have seen other houses done with this and it is better than paint.

I need to question is 15 year guarantee as others have said what happen when said company goes bust or changes name.

We have just had some windows changed and new door and guarantee came via FENSA

Does it not strike you as odd that you have to commit to having the work done before he then talks about discounts?

You will either be obliged to have the work done at the list price and if not then you could just say no thanks once you get the discounted quote and then...err... use that final discounted price to play off against other firms anyway.

There was a very long thread about a particular company here but it got deleted- from what I can recall the relationship between Andura and some of the other firms was not very clear cut.
  • The following is from the long thread to which I just refered. It was a post by me to someone that I shall not name directly given the speed at which he gets whole threads deleted. I appreciate that it doesn't make complete sense out of context but if you want to look into the matter in greater depth then hopefully it will point you in the right direction.

You admit that you use Andura paints. I have just been to their website and it reminded me of yours.
You call them a reputable company in this post, you then go onto talk about a firm that you refer to as
    rogues, namely WALLCOTE LIMITED.
Wallcote later changed their name to ANDURAGUARD LIMITED and were registered at the same address as
the Andura (the firm that you said were reputable).
On your site you claim to have worked for Wallcote (London coating company).
And if you are Johnwallcote then you say that you worked for Andura Guard.
Andura paints site is ver similar to yours in that it looks like a referring site.
They make coatings that they seem unwilling to sell directly, preferring instead to pass you on to associated
    installation companies ".
I see that ANDURA IMPROVEMENTS GROUP LIMITED was only formed in 09/11/2007 according to companies
    house.
The andura paints site says that it is part of BAY-BAL SPECIALIST COATING LIMITED who were formed in
1985 and have been previously known as
    ANDURA COATINGS LIMITED
    ANDERSON INDUSTRIAL PAINTS LIMITED
    CLOUDBASE LIMITED
    ANDURA TEXTURED MASONRY COATINGS LIMITED

On the face of it seams a very odd set-up this andura lot have with all the sub contractors/sub companies etc.

In no great rush to get the works done as still yet to have the final extension built before paint can be done.

I have a price in my head for the works and feel when I am ready, and cash is laid on the table they will do it for what I want.

I expect to pay no more than £3K, cash will be on the table. Take it or leave it.

NB To the SPAMMER that has justed pm'ed me offering to do it for £7k. If you bothered to read my post above you will have noted I have a detached house and your price of £7 for a semi is way off.

On a final note, the pictures they show of before, during and after works looks very good.

Our house was done (3rd owners ago) with some type of coating 20-25 years ago, and only now showing signs of repair needed.
  • Which pictures are you refering to?

the pictures on any of the type of sites offering this product.
  • I have just looked at the ones on the Andura site and yes from a distance they do look good. Mind you it is difficult to find a site that would want to show shoddy examples of work...

BUT most of them look like they have been re-rendered first anyway

It does worry me that so many people are offering 15 guarantees given that the Andura Tex-guard classic is rated at 10 years

The rating is referrers only to colour and there is no mention of a guarantee on the andura site

"with good colour stability, for more than 10 years" is all that is mentioned.

As for the rendering, most people have brick houses, therefore never look at this type of product.

Those that do have brick houses (like me) are becuase of sevaral reasons ie it was done in the past, and when hosue was built (during war) quality of the bricks was poor and some facings blowing off.

Or house is rendered and render blowing off.

Hence why most pictures are rendered houses.

I have found one complaint against the andura company I have round. A news paper article on the house (guesthouse) done, so a quick google brought up said guest house, so I have emailed them for more info.
