Hi, just wondering, will you get credit searched in Experian/Equifax when you apply for a Debit Card upgrade in branch?0

Thanks... I stupidly asked for an upgrade at branch today (and got declined), that's why I asked...!!! Was thinking of applying online now, but concerned that the upgrade request at branch will constitute a credit search!0 -

Nationwide have their own intenal scoring system that the staff can't seem to override.
I had the same issue with my flex account of wanting a debit card - I didn't use the account because it didn't have a debit card, and the response was that I didn't use it enough to get my score up high enough. Was advised by the branch to apply for a new account, and was approved straight away for all facilities!
You may as well keep the old account so if you want to take out any current account offers elsewhere where they require you to transfer an existing account, you have one in stock!0 -
if you open a new account does it link to your esavings accounts or bonds and stuff?0

It does actually, I made an application for a second Flexi-Account, quoted my existing customer number when making the application, now within my online banking i have Two Flexi Accounts listed, e-savings account, ISA Fixed rate account and obviously if i was to open an e-savings + account that would get listed as well.

My experience with Nationwide is mixed. Sometimes they can be good and sometimes a complete nightmare! They have changed for the worst especially since they took over Portman, and attracting more new customers which often led to long queues. Only a few years ago, it used to be personal and they would give you hot drinks or drinks at branch when you come in to discuss your accounts in person. Not now, because they cannot accommodate for everyone! It is excellent only for free overseas transactions charges and good value products but now it is on par with other banks. Disappointing to see another great building society becoming another clone typical bank!0
