I looked into this yesterday, and couldn't find a way to do it.

I have two flexaccounts, one with cash card, and one with visa. But as I like to be able to withdraw more than 300 pound a day when abroad I would have liked the cashcard to become a visa too.

Phoned them, and was told I had to go into the branch. As I find this too much hassle, I applied for a third flexaccount online.

Got one offered instantly with a visa card and an overdraft.... (silly, but eh it's their systems :o )

So you can always try your luck with applying for an additional flexaccount online! After they make you the offer, you can choose if you accept or reject -online-.

I have the same as you, and I can withdraw from both abroad?

When I tried before it didn't work, but looking at the other threat, I might have needed to try another bank?

Oh well... might be able to withdraw 900 a day then..

I have found that some banks ATM's limit your maximum daily withdrawal to €300 or €250 or maybe it is a Visa/Cirrus difference?

Who knows, but at least you are sorted now ;)

Sorry to the OP for somewhat going OT!

A lot of people have found that they will just not upgrade cashcard to visa for some reason. If you have no credit record issues, just apply for another full flexaccount on the website, seems to be the best option with Nationwide.

I went into a NW branch myself for the same reason - to enquire about getting a debit card (currently only have a cashcard with NW).

Apparently the staff have recently been trained to offer card 'upgrades' to their existing customers. However, don't be fooled. This isn't an 'upgrade' as such - it's simply opening another Flexaccount. As soon as I was made aware of this, I rejected the offer of my application being taken and proceeded online myself instead.. and SUCCESS!

So, if you want a debit card rather than your existing cashcash but can't see where to do it online.. it's simply a matter of selecting to apply for a NEW flexaccount within their online banking system.

    Good luck!:j

Thanks all - been enquiring about a debit card upgrade for a while now with no positive response from anyone in the branch.

Opened a new FlexAccount online today and was offered a debit card immediately! Just need to credit with £100 - I assume this can be withdrawn after the account is opened though.

HMPH!!!! I just did an online app for a 2nd flex account and it said they can't offer me one at this time after I thought I was clicking on the next button to take me to 'offer'!!! I opened my previous flex account in July so do you think I tried too soon? I have been using it regularly.

AND I also said yes I do want to switch my account from RBS :(

 They are useless. I went into a branch today and was flat out refused and told I had poor credit, in front of all the other customers. Appalling way to treat customers. i have paid my salary in for 18 months, and am told a CCJ from 5 years ago (paid off) is the problem.

Not sure where to go to complain but think i will - N/W are a brick wall. A very thick one. Had enough of them after today, and want to move everything elsewhere, but problem is I was trying to improve my score with them for all this time, having been led to believe the account would be upgraded!

Don't these idiots realise that customer service is important, and if you upset a customer once that is usually the end? maybe they just don't care, as they have so much of our money from the government now anyway..

I don't think Nationwide took any Government money did they?
