Hi...
I do a tesco.com order once a month and routinely order:
5 bottles of Ariel Bio liquid @ £2.63 a bottle which is £13.15 AND...
2 bottles of Fairy Non-Bio liquid @ £3.28 a bottle which is 6£.56
That's £19.71 a month!!!
I am new to money-saving, as you can see.
I cannot believe I've been paying so much! I want to take part in this experiment too. I am going to finish up what I have got and then make the 1/3 posh 1/3 cheap and 1/3 soda crystals and use half the recommended dose and calculate exactly how much it costs me to get through February like this (assuming it works for me and my family and it doesn't trigger any reactions).
I'll be fascinated to see what the saving is...

I'm really pleased that you're all finding this mix as cheap and effective as I have. :j I have been using it since around May last year and am only on my 3rd box (big size about £8.00 per box) since then. There are six people in this house so that's a lot of washing for a small amount of money. I also find this a mix a great cleaner for all sorts of other jobs, such as floor cleaning, tile cleaning etc.0

After my disaster in hunting for borax ive made a different soap powder to the rest of you.Ive added
box of daz= £1.89
bag of soda crystals 52p
box of biotex 50p (it was reduced in iceland but usually £1.09?
mixed them all together and added 4 tablespoons into the dispenser draw. The clothes came out smelling nice and fresh and even cleaned the dried blood stains from a top when i cut my lip licking an envelope.0 -
I was intrigued by this so I decided to join in.
I have been experimenting with Almat powder from Aldi, which is great except although the powder smells nice, the clothes smell of nothing when they come out of the machine.
I use half the recommended amount and I estimated that my powder cost 5p per wash which I was reasonably happy with.
Now I have made a batch of powder up, 8 oz Bold, 8 oz Almat, 8 oz soda crystals.
I did the maths and I estimate it works out like this:- (approx) 20p for the Almat, 12p for the soda crystals and 59p for the Bold. So I have 24 oz for 91p.
I've done 4 loads of washing today, 1 whites, 1 coloureds, 1 sheets and 1 towels. They all look OK, but they don't smell of anything! (The powder smells nice though, so where's the smell going?!!!) Im keeping a tally so I can see how many washes I get from my 91p. Also OH was absolutely horrified when he spied me putting malt vinegar (19p per bottle - Aldi) in the fab conditioner drawer. It hasnt stained and you cant smell it, so I wont be buying the white stuff I think.
Whilst doing the maths for the above I noticed that Bold costs £2.49 per kg whilst Almat costs just under 84p per kilo, and the only noticeable diffeence I have found is that the scent of the Bold lingers on the clothes whilst the clothes wshed in Almat dont smell of anything. I do like my clothes to smell nice, but not enough to pay three times the price! Plus in the summer when the washing is out on the line it smells lovely anyway.0 -
I was AMAZED to find that the soda crystals mixed with washing powder removed the remants of a chewing gum accident on a pair of tracksuit trousers of mine. They had been in the freezer, sprayed with commercial gum remover and everything and yet there was still some sticky stuff left.
Now it has to have been the soda crystals which was the magic ingredientso I am a happy bunny!

Hi
Found a thread on here the other day about making your own washing powder, but i can't find it now!!
I can remember someone said to mix equal amounts of a good washing powder, a cheaper washing powder and washing soda crystals....but does anyone know if you can add some borax to it or bicarb to help with the stain removal?
Thanx0 -
