    Hi,
I'm new to this thread and feel really inspired looking at all your wonderful cards to actually try and make some myself this year.
I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for magazines to buy for a beginner. I had a look in WH Smiths this morning and there were about 10 different magazines available, I did have a quick flick through but didn't want to spend £4/£5 and then it not being really suitable.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hiya oats.

There are a lot of magazines to choose from and I think they are all very different. My best advice to you is to read the front covers, take a look at the work on the front and see which one 'feels' like you.

Forgot to say, I don't buy magazines anymore but when I did I loved Simply cardmaking. If you want a good value one then the Do crafts are brilliant as you get a free gift too but they are only available at The Range and selected craft shops.

If you have access to a photocopier/scanner, then I'd reccommend Papercraft Essentials, as (as well as whatever free gift they are giving) they always include a template pack with shapes, designs etc which is really good (the Christmas one came with loads of cute Christmas creatures to photocopy and colour in).

TBH, the magazines are all much of a muchness (I'm terrible, I buy them all). I'd just suggest you buy a different one each month until you find one that 'clicks' with you (or buy a different one each month based on which free gift you like best!)

The above re magazines is sound advice - I bought one just before Christmas & was disappointed with the content (for the money) & the free gift was't what I'd expected either! (Doh!) but I will try a few others.........

I tend to look in card shops then see how I can re create a similar look to the ones I like best & of course this thread is a source of inspiration too!

    I have 2 random questions
    - What are those little sticky foam pads called? the kind that you use to create a 3d effect with a picture or to lift the picture off the card?
    - wheres the cheapest place to buy said item?
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?

And here was me thinking they would have a fancy technical name doh!
found some for 59p instead of £2.35 in different shapes so going to order them and play around :)
Got me a stamp to put on the back of cards now.
Think Ive ordered enough embellishments and stickers to last a fair few years - not exactly money saving but Im happy with it :)
Just need to clear space on the table and put the decs away and then I can start :)

I always get my foam pads from the pound shop I think the last lot I bought had 240 in it and then cut them to size - they also do foam tape on a roll for larger toppers.
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended :p

In a fit of sales madness I bought a snowflake stamp (rubber and wood) but have got it home and realised I haven't a clue what sort of ink I need to use it !

Can anyone give me any advice please ?
