I've got some left over turkey crown, and lots of red cabbage (gorgeous, done in cola as advised by a Nigella fan on here)

Any ingenious ways I could use both in the same dish?
  • Sorry cazziebo no ideas for you...... some ingenious person maybe along soon.

Talking of ingenious people I have just used Curry Queen's korma recipe for my leftover turkey and it was fab-u-lous. I made the large batch of curry base so have some in the freezer to make more. Thanks CQ!!

  • Is it too late to freeze any of the leftover turkey from xmas day? It was all removed from the bones and kept in the fridge since then but it was so hectic here I forgot to freeze some of it.

We've put some in the freezer today. Also still got some left unfrozen which OH is going to make into curry tomorrow. Can't see it'll be a problem, we'll be heating it to boiling point and cooking for a decent length of time.

Could you do a variation on Jamie's sweet leek and turkey pie? (Which we tried and was absolutely yummy!)

Thanks to Money Saving Old Style our turkey has went farther this year. The breast and carcass meat was used for 3 turkey dinners (Christmas day, Boxing day and New Years), we had turkey and gammon puff pastry pie on the Sunday after Christmas, not to mention a load of turkey sandwiches and 2 turkey legs and a wing are still in the freezer, the other wing was used for soup on Christmas and boxing day. That's around 8 meals for a family of 4 from a 20 lb turkey. This has been the thriftiest I've ever been with my turkey and I love it, especially when using it in other dishes. Oh, and I've also got around 2 litres of good turkey stock frozen in the freezer.:D

Did anyone else buy the whole Turkey for Christmas and get more than a few meals out of it? If so, did you make anything exciting with it?

Well I only bought one of the crowns as I get so fed with turkey and I got 2 trad turkey dinners one for 5 and one for 2, Curry for 3, one lunchtime sandwiches and one sweetnsour for 3 - pretty pleased with that.
I also got a gammon for roasting and it only lasted 2 dinners as everyone liked it so much and scoffed all the leftovers!

I got a boned & rolled breast from our local butcher, who got it from a local farm.

Anyway, we had xmas dinner & evening sandwich for 3. Boxing day dinner for 3 & turkey tikka Massala for 3.

We also had a small gammon & pigs in blankets & sausagemeat stuffing to stretch it out.
  • We had a 13 pound turkey and so far we did Xmas dinner for 4, sandwiches on boxing day for 8, turkey and leek pie for 10, turkey curry for 3 and we've still got loads in our freezer as well as the stock from boiling up the carcass!!!

First year I've done the Xmas, normally my boyf's mum does it or my dad. Our turkey was a freebie too!!!
