I'm 31, and were I not overpaying I'd have 22.5 years left on my mortgage. Hoping to have it paid off within 10.

It helps that I've just changed to a higher-paying job. I'll try and live on the same amount of money as I did before (minus extra travel expenses) and channel the rest into the mortgage.
  • My mortgage finishes June 2014
By that time I would have paid off 31k off a 78k mortgage (leaves 47k)

Also have an endowment. Endowment didn't do very well so will probably only take 27k off (leaves 20k still to pay).

Therefore I will still have 20k to pay

I still have 5 years 6 months to "catch up" but to be honest I don't know how you all do it - being able to put extra money in your mortgages. I don't know if I have got my head in the sand but I will just have to get a 20k loan out once my mortgage has finished in 2014. I will be 46 by then.

I feel I have had a mortgage round my neck for years so 20k will seem a small amount to pay by then.
  • Dh and I are both 32 with 20 years left to pay. 74k on a btl and 116k on our own home.

We're throwing every spare penny we have at the mortgage and OP by a min of £50 per mth. hopeful of clearing it in 10 years. This is not our 'forever' house but if we can stay here for 10 years and get this paid off then we'll have so much more freedom of choice for our next move.
  • Me and DW are 33, hope to have it paid by 40 (£94k). However missed this years target (to get it to £90k) so will have to work extra hard in 2009!!!
  • Hi, I am 29 and DH is 30

I'm 29 and OH is 37. We have just had an extension to take our 3 bed detached to a 4 bed detached - it cost us 1/3 of what it would have done to move to something similar.

We have been overpaying our mortgage for about 3 years, starting at £50 and upping it to £100 as soon as we could. Our new mortgage when we remortgage in a few weeks will be £135k on a house worth >£190k. We won't be able to overpay initially and have baby #2 due to arrive in July, but aim to have it paid off in less than the 20 years we have left.

Reckon I'll be less than 45 by the time we pay it off. Fingers crossed.

I'm 35 and DH is 40. I would love to pay the mortgage off by the time I'm 40, but don't think that will happen.
