The end is in sight, Just shows you don't have to be young, a couple or earning lots and lots its possible at any age.
You set your goal and prioritise and compromise.0 -
I am 35 and aiming to have it paid off by 2015, idealistically it would be when I hit 40 but I want to have a life too between now and then!!0

37, MF by 45 if we stay in this house (unlikely, we move every few years!) But we're only planning as far as reducing the mortgage to 40k by the time we turn 40. I consider that such a nominal amount at the moment, but could change my mind as we get closer. Aside from income and personal frugality levels, stage of life (in terms of children) and thus house moves have a major impact on how quickly the mortgage can be paid off. As well as geographical location and their effect on house prices.0

Gosh, everyone so young.
Mine was paid off at the age of 59. The last few (well 10 maybe) years it had become an insignificant payment. I think I was still getting tax relief which is why I didn't bother paying it off early.0 -
i'm 47 and wish i'd started this ages ago! still, better late than never!!

You said it dzug
I was just thinking how young everyone here is - I didn't even get a mortgage till I was almost 30! that said, we made some OPs on our first home (a flat) and stayed there for six years and when we moved we had about £60k deposit for our 'forever' home against a cost of £300k. that was three years ago and we're now down to £220k on the mortgage and hoping to be down below £200k by end of year if some things work out. At the minute we're funding for a mortgage free age of 53. Might manage to get it down a bit though if the interest rates stay low when we go for our next fixed rate...
