Im 34 and DH is 31 - we have a mortgage running for another 20yrs but over the last 3yrs have made overpayments, so hopefully we can bring this forward a bit and see if we are able to move up to a bigger house - depends on circumstances of course. Was speaking to DH last night about this stating that when our fixed rate is up in May 09, then we can ask them to reduce the term for a set number of years or should you just state how many yrs have we overpaid already and reduce it that way - he is not really convinced due to job losses etc at the moment but still hope to pay off earlier.

    Overpayments 2006-2009 = £11985; 2010 = £6170, 2011 = £5570, 2012 = £1290
  • I hope to be MF the day after my 39th birthday! That's next year.
  • We were 45 and 46 when we paid our mortgage off, having borrowed several further advances (for renovation purposes) over the 19 years. We could only afford a small overpayment, but every little helps!

We are 38 and 37 now and hope to be mortgage free by June 2016 (46 and 45).

We took out a £113K mortgage in 2006 and hope it's our last!

Overpayments (currently £500 per month) have brought it down to £98K in 2.5 years.
We've just reduced the term to further increase the monthly mortgage payments by £125.

If we cut out all treats and ate beans on toast every day, we could pay it off even sooner (and we'd be charged an ERC), but we want to be mortgage free AND have some nice treats along the way (nothing wrong with a bit of balance).

PS - my interest rate has just gone down by .3%! Woohoo!

  • We're both 35. We bought our house seven and a half years ago, and are on track to pay for it within 10 years, so we should make it by the time we're 38. Definitely want the mortgage gone, plus some extra savings by the time I hit 40 !

I'm 34, and on target to pay off my mortgage before I'm 45, which is 10 years early.
Thanks to all the lovely people on here I have managed to cut my hours down to 2 days a week, allowing me to spend more time with my gorgeous Children. :j

Far too old (sorry no personal info given on an open website) with two out of three properties mortgage free. The last should be mortgage free before I am 50.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:
