We are both 40 - had a couple of false starts trying to be MF. We don't have a definate end in sight, just asap before we are 50. Have 17 years left on the term so should be achievable, barring unforeseen circumstances ......0

I am 38 and hope to have my mortage paid off for just after my 40th birthday. It's only a small mortgage (50K) left to pay - finding out about overpayment has reduced my payment term from 23 years to 7 so far and it's the best thing I have ever doneim tray not davey...pinched my hubbys account!!!

hi,
im 27 and my OH is 23. should have saved enough cash by the end of this month to fill my ISA up fully which will form my emergency cash fund so i can start overpaying the mortgage. weve got approx £95000 left to pay off (borrowed £97850 in april 2007 for our first place! i know!) and can start overpaying by anything we can afford by april. were allowed to overpay by 10% of the remaining capitol each year without penalty so will try to get the extra £833 quid each allowable month but this is unlikely.
recon i can achive £500 a month without breaking myself but that might be at the expense of my pension. working 7 days (overtime and second job) at the mo but this wont be permanent, but while the work is there, especially in todays climate i would be a fool not to grab it with both hands. clearing about £2200 a month after tax by my calcs (first month on 7 days this month) and while it continues i can overpay to the maximum allowable! after that i recon overpay by £300 a month normally.
wish me luck0 -

38 and have 60k left. Overpaying as much as I can. Should be ok to pay off in about 7 years.
We also have a second property that's more of an investment (*not* bought at the peak, lol!). This will not be paid off early, but, allowing for a drop to 2001 prices, the mortgage won't exceed the value...
We do have one problem though - we have a daughter who's at a good school now, but the secondary schools are pretty terrible. So it's inevitable that we'll have to move in the future (hopefully when the world has straightened out a bit), maybe in 10 years. The plan is to have as small a mortgage as possible/big deposit so that we absolutely don't get in the sort of mess many are in now.0 -
I'm 36 and too much of a gentleman to reveal my wife's age
.
We bought our place two years ago, and are on track to pay this mortgage off around the time I'm 45, but it's not our "forever" house so we'll probably trade up one more time, which might extend it by a few years.
But to be honest, who knows? It all depends on wage inflation, asset prices, career/salary prospects, whether we decide to downsize and become organic goat farmers, and so on. All I know is that we're aiming to pay this and any subsequent mortgages off as quickly as is reasonably possible without neglecting retirement provision.0 -

We are 40 and 45. Paying off the mortgage is a dream/goal of ours we could probably pay off quite comfortably between 5 to 8 years time.
However a bigger house for our family is our other dream/goal which would mean doubling the mortgage at least. If property prices continue to fall then we may do this in the next year or two. Meaning we wont be mortgage free for a lot longer I guess maybe 12 - 15 years hard to guess but it would continue to be a goal.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0
