I would personally add the cost onto the goods, as they are bargains anyway, people arnt going to notice 20 - 30p on top of what he is already charging anyway as its so cheap! This way people will be more inclined to order... like someone else has said, its the bit at the end thats putting a few people off... maybe more than a few people, who knows?
I think if this was the case, then there would have to be some sort of minimum order for dan to feel the benefit. I would say about £15 - £20 minimum.
I personally would feel that this would be the way to go, as he could advertise free delivery then, but in reality its not becuase the prices have been inflated. A lot more people would be inclined to order then, inc me!
Ooh, but then it's all back to perception again, isn't it? Two for the price of one and all that. Verrry interesting.
I'd be quite happy to forgo the £10.50 delivery charge and see the prices rise a little. After all, everybody else would be paying a little bit towards my delivery ...;) You wouldn't be getting as much of a bargain as before, but you would perceive you were getting delivery for free ...
Tut, tut, have you learned nofink from this site ...
So far we have had folk wanting PP (which would increase prices) and wanting 'free' delivery (thus paying inequitable delivery charges because mine is more than yours, (which would also increase prices)
Hmm, and you lot call yourselves money savers:rolleyes:0 -

Yeh but either way, your getting a bargain. Thats the way i would go anyway, as free delivery sounds a lot more attractive... but hey its not my business, its just an idea to get more people ordering.0 -
I agree on the free delivery thing but spread it across the prices. But there would have to be a minimum order of course, to ensure Dan's not losing out!0

But...but... you'd be paying more ...
I can see what you mean if you would be advising Dan on ways to increase his sales - but at the moment he doesn't need that.
What I cannot, for the life of me understand, is why (as moneysavers) you are saying you would want to pay more than you are now ie. Your delivery charge would be £5.50? and mine is £10.50, so we would be splitting the difference on the fiver ... thanks:D0 -
... and ...
this way round the courier charge is 'visible.' It makes me wonder what would happen if it wasn't?
Would couriers raise their quotes simply because their charges couldn't be seen ... would you actually end up with even higher prices because it would reduce Dan's negotiating power?
Just a thought ...0 -

No, i work in despatch and we charge free delivery, and incorporate this into our prices for goods. Our carrier never has a problem with this ( City Link ), and infact we get very very good quotes from them too!!!
You wouldnt be paying anymore though would you, as the £5.50 you pay for delivery would be that extra on the items! It would more than likely work out the same, the only way it would work out a bit more expensive is if the order is more expensive and its a huge order.
Obviously with Northern Ireland and offshore places, the free delivery would just not be able to apply, unless the minimum order changes to £30 - £35 for free delivery?0 -
I think free delivery is stupid, would you ask Asda or Tesco to delivery your goods for free I think not. Yeah they offer free del on orders over so much, but come on they have bigger profit margins and can afford to do this.
Are you trying to sink Dans company, I for one am super happy with delivery charge. Come on people be reasonable, Dan is already offering fantastic service dnt be silly and demanding stupid things. Wins in 09 = A vodka cocktail kit thing lol, £150 Amazon voucher.0 -

Are you for real? Free Delivery = Attractive advertising = more orders. Do you have any idea on how advertising and marketing works?
He wouldnt be losing out, as the prices of the goods would rise to incorporate the delivery costs.
The only way the customer will lose out is if the order is a huge one.0 -

I wouldn't be paying more, I would, in effect, be paying less - it's other folk that would on balance be paying more, and that seems to be what you are asking for?
... erm, and you might want to check out Dan's offshore rates - I'm offshore and paying £10.50 (not £5.50)and a refreshing change it makes too. Sick to death of couriers cherrypicking the UK and giving exhorbitant quotes to the rest of us!
The UK is precisely that, the United Kingdom - not just the places linked via a motorway network.
Plus, and this is an important point considering how difficult business is becoming - if your courier doesn't charge reasonable rates to outlying areas - how much business are they excluding your company from - how much are they restricting your trade?
And, just in case you are wondering, I can give you a recent example:
I wanted to buy some bulk candles off eBay - the mainland UK courier price was £8. I asked how much to deliver to me - the answer, £44!!!!!!
Guess which company lost a sale?
Good for business in the long term - don't think so ...0 -
I think the delivery is fine as it is - if there is a minimum order it might put people off using the site. Also, if things go out of stock which they inevitably do, your order might only come to £5 for a few items, and that doesn't even cover the cost of courier, let alone the products themselves.
I like the fact that the delivery charge is transparent (as someone else said) and I think it makes it easier for customers as well as the company. Tesco do the exact same thing, and I've paid £6.25 for a delivery from them before.
The only change I would like to see is what people have already mentioned - a substitution option would be fab.0
