re Paypal: as has been pointed out, Paypal is expensive and our profit margin is tiny. However, we hope to have a new website up and running within a couple of months, which will address all the current shortcomings, so all your suggestions are most welcome to help us provide a slicker service in the future. We are looking into all the possibilities for payments.

Today we have taken on even more new staff in order to cope with the increased demand after all the exposure AF has had in the national media (we even appear in the New Zealand Herald, though no orders have come in from NZ yet!!). As for how long orders will take, we're hoping to be able to get them out in five days (excluding weekends, when DHL don't collect or deliver).

Once again, thanks for all the encouragement, positive comments and congratulations, which are doing wonders for staff morale at AF.

approvedfoods... I Love You. I Want You. It's unrequited love but I just can't live with you for one reason and one reason only. With your popularity and demand increasing day by day, could you see it in your heart to compromise, negotiate if you will with your courier and get them to lower their delivery costs? Could you? For me, could you? I know your heart is good, show it to me.

    /I'm not drunk.

If i did it for you i would have to do it for all the others who love me too!

As we shift more parcels hopefully i will be able to renegotiate with other couriers.

    Thanks Lover...

Hopefully I'm not the only person on here that actually thinks the delivery price is very reasonable?

I'm one of the customers that comes under the £10.50 delivery charge and that is still damn good compared to what I normally have to pay to have items delivered by courier, so whatever deal Dan has negotiated at the minute isn't bad at all.

I think you have to take the whole thing into perspective. Accepting payments by Google means he can keep prices down, Paypal effectively means they would have to go up (just to give paypal their dosh)
Couriers set their own rates and nothing goes into the pocket of the wholesaler, so he's not done a bad job getting the prices that he has - proven by the increase in sales. If GB gets his way and privatises Royal Mail and more of us have to use courier firms for lots of things then maybe folk will have a lot more to complain about ...

And like I said, even with a £10.50 delivery charge, my order worked out at a right bargain. I sat down and tried to figure how much the stuff would have cost me in the shops (although admittedly I actually don't have access to a lot of the things so it was guesswork) and my bill (even with delivery) was half what I would normally pay.

It's up to you, but I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, if the gov start printing money and inflation takes off (place your bets here please!) then you will be awfully glad of places and services like Dans.

No I agree with you- Of course, he could put all his prices up a bit and offer free delivery, which people would probably perceive as a better bargain, because its adding that cost on at the end which we don't like. However, I think a weight based system is fair and transparent-if you get a mix of light bulky stuff and heavy but cheap stuff it stil works out very reasonably. If I am getting 5 different types of thing in an order, and think of the postage as £1 added onto each, then divide out the cost per item, its doesn't change it much. FOr instance, those jars of pasta sauce that were 6 jars for 50p- perhaps it worked out at 6 jars for £1- still a huge bargain.
I've ben a little more restrained this week- not ordered at all:o - its been good to start using up all the packed lunch stuff now we are all back at work/school. I am really bad for buying in advance then forgetting whatI've got, thus making it all completely pointless. However, so far I am doing well on the af stuff. I think what I am most pleased about is that I have always bought end of date fresh food in supermarkets and the site lets me extend that to the other stuff I've always resented paying full price for...

I would personally add the cost onto the goods, as they are bargains anyway, people arnt going to notice 20 - 30p on top of what he is already charging anyway as its so cheap! This way people will be more inclined to order... like someone else has said, its the bit at the end thats putting a few people off... maybe more than a few people, who knows?

I think if this was the case, then there would have to be some sort of minimum order for dan to feel the benefit. I would say about £15 - £20 minimum.

I personally would feel that this would be the way to go, as he could advertise free delivery then, but in reality its not becuase the prices have been inflated. A lot more people would be inclined to order then, inc me!
