Well yes, precisely. Most of it is total junk food. Why not save even more cash by not buying any of it and do your family a favour by not filling them up with pallets worth of sugar, fat and chemicals? 10 Curry Flavoured Pot Noodles for £1.00, urgh.... The temptation will be to buy enough to justify the postage, of course, but that means your family will eat it twice as fast. Is it real money saving?

Saying that I do buy the family the odd pack of this and that and I noticed when looking at this site that many of the items are the same ones that are in my local Poundstretcher, at almost identical prices. And you can just buy one or two items.
Marmite, cereal, stuffing and tonic water isn't ''junk'' food. Just because ''junk'' it is available to buy doesn't mean thats all everyone buys.
If you are having a party soon and would buy the ''junk'' anyway...this is the cheapest place.

It is saving people money if you only buy what you need.

There are a few shops in Skeggy that sell OOD foods.

Just looked on that site and a few items are cheaper in supermarkets for in date stuff so do your homework before buying.
  • I know that there used to be one in Chapel. Where are the ones in Skeg, please?

There is one down chip alley and one on the high street opposite Argos.
  • One thing I will point out is that Best Before dates (and Use By dates) do have a huge safety margin built in.

I have worked within the food industry for many years, in both fresh and canned goods, and can assure you that frequent testing is done on shelf life, but this is done with a view that the product will be abused by the consumer. If the product is looked after properly (as recommended by the food manufacturer), it will last considerably longer than the date printed on the packaging.

In other words, don't automatically throw out a butter pat because it is a couple of days past the use by date, or throw away a can of beans because it's best before date was a couple of months ago - use a bit of common sense as to whether the food is okay.

I will offer the following tips on canned goods though (as they have long shelf lives):-

Do NOT let cans get wet - if the seal is not perfect on the can, water is the transport medium that will allow bacteria in

Do NOT rely on cans that have visible damage to any of the seams (where the can is joined to itself or the lids)

Do NOT use any cans that are starting to "bulge" - cans are designed to allow this to happen during processing, but cans doing this in your home suggest either bacterial / fungal activity in the can, or hydrogen swell - neither of which you want to mess with

If you have had any cans that have been kicking around for donkey's years, and they have excessive swelling - DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PIERCE THEM to release the pressure, and, when handling, carry them in such a way that if the ends were to burst off the can, they would not hit anyone. Before disposing, consider placing in a cardboard box, or even a carrier bag, so if the end does blow off, it would be contained. The pressure inside a swelling can is immense, and should be treated with the same level of respect you would give a loaded gun!

Hopefully, those words of advice will help someone out there ....
