Sorry - I just realised I've replied to a message from January
The last part still stands though - if you're having problems on the PO website, give them a ring. This applies to most other companies as well - they usually have the discretion to apply the "web only" offers even if done over the phone, in my experience.
Hi,
I tried phoning P&O and explained politely & patiently that their website was adding up the outward & inbound prices but coming up with a higher total. ( ie £40 + £30 = a total of £94 )
In this instance the operator was not at all helpful, or even bothered.
I really wanted to take up the issue with trading standards but when I rechecked the P&O website a few days later, it was working correctly on the dates in question.............. so I had no evidence to report!
I now travel on Norfolkline every time, Dover to Dunkirk. The crossing takes longer but the ferries are newer & a nice design, the toilets at Dunkirk are fit for purpose unlike Calais, there is a small cafe in the Norfolkline terminal at Dunkirk and the crossings are much, much cheaper.

Daily Mail are still doing the £17 plus free bottle of wine offer

P&O seem to have the same wine offer, but now the trip is £19, book before 10th Feb for travel before 25th March.

Hi Everyone,
Im looking to take my mum over to Ireland this year on holiday to stay with my aunty. We want to go from hollyhead to Dublin and are going by ferry so we can take my dog. Does anyone know the best way to book this to get the best deal please.
Thanks

Hi - just wanted to say we took up this offer last time in October half-term - the free wine was very respectable and accompanied the other 50 bottles or so that we brought back (which have now nearly gone!)
We went to Cite Europe for the first time, expecting to do quite a bit of Xmas shopping, but I thought it was very expensive so we didn't really buy anything. Also, most of the attractions around Calais were closed and it was too early for Xmas markets. If I was going to do it again (as I need the wine) I would probably choose a day where we could go somewhere for a day out, not too far from the ports, rather than rely on just shopping.
Have fun!I would love to be lazy but can't find the time:exclamati0 -
I've posted this before (it was originally a December only offer), but it looks like the deal has been extended.
The New Inn, Etchinghill (near Folkestone) is giving 50% discount off a pretty extensive food menu to any cross-channel traveller who can show their ferry / Channel Tunnel booking.
As a regular driver using the Channel Tunnel, I think this is a great deal and certainly beats the conveyor belt of motorway service stations. The pub is literally less than a mile from the Chunnel terminal, just off the M20 and en-route to Dover.
It's a cosy place, and I'm amazed not more cross-channel travellers are using it, especially with this deal going-on. Their website is new-inn.info0 -
The current P&O deal Dover to Calais is £19 weekend return for car and up to 9 passengers when you book by 10th Feb for travel by 25th Mar (excludes Valentines).
However on arrival at Dover you get a voucher for 6 bottles of Gallo red or white wine (normally about £3 a bottle) and one free Framhouse breakfast (normally £7.99) if you buy one.

Combine that with the savings you can make if you smoke and go to Belgium to stock up makes it a worthwhile trip.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

"sorry but haven't driven abroad and don't know where to drive through..i only have 8 hours until i need to go back on the ferry"
If this is your first effort at driving on the "wrong" side of the road, I would avoid getting lost in the town centres and drive steadily on the motorways. Check the maps available on the links below and have a clear plan of where you want to go so you don't dither at the junctions. They are closer together than on our motorways and the slip roads can be one lane and bendy. Get it wrong and you could be through the tolls and on your way to Paris!
The coastal motorway is free until it turns inland at Boulogne.
Buy tobacco in Belgium (in France it is government controlled)
We are all EU citizens now, so there is no limit for private (non commercial) use (**).
Think like a lorry driver.
The first town in Belgium is Adinkerke and there is a big drive in tobacconist:

You could fill up with cheap (?) diesel (!) road fuel in large hypermarket en route here in the Centre Commercial Flandres Littoral,
probably better "French" value than its Calais equivalent - though the Calais branch has special stock for day trippers.

On way back drink is available at Zone Industrial Marcel Doret (check out

for offers - now our currency is down 30% there are not the bargains there used to be).

Save the bargain lunch and interesting places to visit for you next day trip or weekender visit.
Got your cheap (Nationwide?) credit & debit card organised?
Beware of exchange rates on the ferry and when you arrive paying by card with the "dynamic currency conversion" rip off of about 3% (get cash out of hole in wall machine at a bank or post office on arrival?)

(**) I once got stuck in a Q behind an Indian Sub-Continent looking bloke buying tobacco - It was soooo obvious what he was doing, as he was buying 200's in a dozen different brands.0 -
Has anyone here ever been over on a Sunday?
Been to france loads of times as I live in Kent, but never been on a Sunday, I know the big hypermarkets are closed but from looking on the daytripper website it looks like a few of the smaller supermarkets are open in the mornings.
Are there any other shops open on sundays? I know most of the booze places (Eastenders etc.) but are there any others?
Also are restaurants etc. open?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0
