You can use cherry coke too - it tastes nothing like cherries or coke but is delicious

Seriously try the gammon (use a small one just in case ;) ) you cannot taste coke it just gives it a lovely sweet flavour. :) and mine always stays a nice pink gammon colour too :)

I will try it, I still have a gammon in the freezer from when they were selling cheap around Christmas.

Just one question, do you soak your gammon first to get rid of the salt overload?
  • After reading this thread this morning, I plonked my gammon joint in the slow cooker on high with a glug of apple juice for about 4 hours (1.5kg). I'm veggie so can't comment on the outcome but DH and kids are currently devouring the gammon with HM bread and making lots of 'mmmmm' noises so job's a good 'un! :j

Just want to say made it and it was delicious reminded me of when I was young and my dad used to make ham. Thanks everyone.
  • Im confused dont you have to remove the salt first by soaking or does the coke somehow eliminate it?

i've just got my sc out the cupboard - not been used since last winter - did pork chops in it today with a mug of water and a cut up apple - tasted divine - the meat's so tender but not overly so.

will be at st johns market during my dinnertime tomorrow to get a gammon - never done one before but i feel inspired :D

I always do gammon in cola in the slow cooker it's lush, and for the record, diet cola is just as good in my opinion.

Also done chicken in diet coke, on the hob, and let the cola nearly bubble away, very nice too....

  • I've been inspired and will try the apple juice version at some point. Can someone please tell me how long does it need to be in the SC for when set on low and on high. Thanks in advance.
