OMG I can't believe the attitude of some posters on this thread.

When you are on benefits it's not uncommon to live hand to mouth, and when something happens that messes what money you do have to live on up it can be a nightmare. Benefits are there as a safety net, so what happens when something comes along and pulls that net away......you fall. What exactly do those of you who are castigating the op suggest she does to "make sure" her family has heat and light etc......sell her body?

As for ripping into her because she has bank charges, well you know what, the banks screw people and a simple oversight of a few pounds ends up with people being £100's in debt because of unlawful bank charges. It's easy done and when you are on an already very tight budget it's easy for it to spiral. It's not just people with bad money management that get caught out, there is a thread over on the discussion time thread right now where a very sensible and level headed poster, who runs her own business got charged £144 for going over drawn by £19......by a simple oversight, the first time in all her life it had ever happened. Do you want to go and start lecturing her too.

What ever the reason the OP changed her bank details or that she is on benefits she has actually done nothing wrong, the DWP staff are the ones who have messed up and lecturing her isn't going to help change that.

OP the obvious question is, is there any friends or family you could borrow a small amount of money from just to tide you over until this gets sorted? Good luck, I know the blind panic that you feel when you realise your lifeline has been cut without warning, through no fault of your own.

Oh please. What kind of crap is this.

The OP is in dire straights. No-one disagrees with this.

What I am trying to say is that first its the banks fault (because they are overdrawn and cant manage money), then its the agencies fault (because they can't pay the money correctly), not once it is the OPs fault?

I saw all this before on the OPs thread here which is nearly 3 weeks ago.

She has done something, she can't manage her money. She expects everyone to help her, the banks, the system, and us.

At no point was it her fault?!

This is not a new problem for the OP and I suspect that she has finally racked up so many debts she has moved to a new account.
through no fault of your own.

Thats right. Its everyones fault but hers.

You cant just abandon the old account because its overdrawn. That needs to be sorted.

You can't just walk away and blame bank charges/benefits mix up for your dilemma, you had a role to play.

So. Your priorites are the next 24 hours. Then the longer term.

For the next 24 hours you need to go to the benefits office and explain your terms.

For the longer term, you need to get the interest halt on the OD and then go via the "hardship" route to bring it to and end and pay it back and close it down.

    Bozo

Erm I don't think I said we were walking away from it, we are planning on claiming back all the charges, they won't halt the interest or stop the charges and we have no choice but to live on benefits so what do you propose we do to eat when the bank takes all our money for their charges?????

Oh it is also my husbands account not mine so not much I can do without his say so.

Me too. and I know how you feel.

Im sure IS wont just pay you again as in their eyes they already have paid you. They wont reverse a payment to then pay into a new account. Plus they wouldnt do it instantly.

Im not sure what advise I can offer apart from as others have said, ask to borrow from a friend or family member. If you cant do this then I think you are stuck. You may need to go via the crisis loan route.

In the past I have phoned market traders out of the paper who buy second hand goods. Toys/baby clothes/ bric-a-brac etc. Have you got a local free ad paper?

Do you have anything you can sell on a cheap buy it now on Ebay for collection only?Or your local gumtree site you may be able to offer items for sale.

    Good luck to you.

Poppy, you need to get out this mindset.

You are on benefits, they are there to help you when you have nothing. The bank screwed you because you could not manage money.

Its not the benefits or societies fault.

    Bozo

No they are not there when we have nothing, they are there for us to live on because I am ill! It has nothing to do with managing money, that and benefits don't come into it, the benefits are for us to live on.

How is it not the benefits fault? I gave them new bank details, they paid it into the wrong account, please do explain how it isn't their fault.

Of course you should pay back a crisis loan. You are not entitled to extra free money because of an error - even if it is an error on their part, the original error was yours (ie the bank account scenario).

I understand you say you have nothing to pawn or sell, that is unfortunate. Nonetheless, your attitude needs some work - yes you are in receipt of benefits but you should be doing everything in your power to make sure your family have food and warmth. At the end of the day, the people that work for the DWP will go home to a hot meal and a hot bath - and will not give you or your family a second thought.

How is the original error mine? I am entitled to change bank accounts, that would be like your employer paying your wages into an old account you no longer have control over.

I do everything in my power to ensure my family have warmth and food by budgeting my benefits, we don't chose to be on benefits, I would rather have good health and a job but at present that isn't going to happen so we have to live on benefits.

Are you getting child benefit and tax credits paid into your new account? When that goes in it will tide you over. I assume you have them paid weekly.

No one who can lend you £20? You could all eat well with that much for a week.

My tax credits thankfully goes in tomorrow so that's £50 which will buy us food and electric, gas we'll have to do without.

So ill people shouldn't be allowed support or help is that what your saying? It's fine for banks to charge people who live on pittance. Not everyone can be as bloody perfect as you think you are and in an ideal world I wouldn't live like this but needs must. Now if you have no constructive advice go crawl.

And quite honestly Bozo (suitable name there!) if you have nothing better to do than search peoples previous posts, you need a hobby.

The oiginal error is yours because you failed to manage your finances and thus had to change accounts. Looking at your previous posts, you need some lessons on money management.

I also don't actually believe you have nothing that can be pawned/sold etc to raise some funds.

    Resorting to insults now? Nice.
