No they told me that on the 29th for the payment on the 3rd November which they paid by giro because I mentioned if they paid it into the old account it might get swallowed by bank charges. When I spoke to them on the 3rd they told me the 10ths payment (today's) would be in the new account.

Okay sorry. In which case it doesn't sound as if your account change request has been actioned at all? Just seen that you are going to get confirmation of what's happening next week - you need to do this asap.

In the immediate future, do you need any help in organising where to prioritise your £50? Is that all there is until next Monday? I'm sure this place is crawling with people who can help budget/menu plan with you.

Anyway thank you very much for your reply and for understanding where I am coming from with this.[/quote]

You are more than welcome........By the way Im actually an experienced IS processor. You are not alone and yes the system is crap. Someone has messed up big style on your claim but sadly its so easy to do given the job cuts and pressure...BUT thats still no excuse and not your fault!

The posters who were so quick to flame you should walk a mile in your shoes. Maybe then they would have a tiny idea of how bloody hard things are. Good luck, try and get some budgeting advice from CAB, you can turn things around x

Good for you girl - get over to the oldstyle board too, we'll help get you sorted out.
I second that, the girls over there are magicians I swear lol I thought I had cut my shopping budget to within an inch of it's life but after spending a while lurking over there I felt like I was throwing money out with the rubbish each week!
Simple tips such as you can freeze mushrooms, I had NO idea, we use loads of mushrooms but they go off so quickly so I would always buy them fresh at our local co-op at twice the price of asda's smartprice ones. Now I just chop, bag, freeze and use as needed :) Oh and slow cookers, the cheapest meat out there is lush when left in a slowcooker all day, and batch cooking and...............;)

Like I said, get yourself over to OS lol

Yes I will be phoning in the morning although I am still wanting someone higher up to phone me to explain why this has been allowed to happen.

The £50 will go literally on life or death things so the main of it will go on food, then I will put £10 onto the electric meter and hopefully have £10 for the gas, if not £5 will do for us to have a bath, heating we can manage with extra clothing as it isn't too cold at the moment.

    Thank you.

Blimey im off to old style now as well....im fed up with wasting mushrooms!
  • Boppy, I think I missed the fact you got paid by giro in between. I do find it strange they paid giro then back into old account...as it was either not too late to change it for the 2nd week, so should have gone to new account, or it was too late, so they should have paid giro (if they already managed to sort giro for week before). I'd put a letter in writing outlining the hardship and misadvice, and the effect it's had in your distress and see if they can help. Crisis loans are good for short term, as you can always pay back later over time (by which time hopefully bank charges, above letter, etc are getting sorted out).

As an aside, did you realise if your OH works over 16hrs, and you are incapacitated for childcare purposes, you would be elligible (but not necessary entitled) for help with up to 80% of the child care costs with tax credits. Obvious you would still need to pay 20% +, but OH income would more than make up for this.

    Good luck.

Not really much to add except just be grateful that you ARE on benefits and so CAN get a crisis loan.

When me and my o/h hadmoney troubles no one would help us because we work.

But they told you that you hadn't given them enough time and that the payment would probably be going into the other account. It's really not their fault.
Yes they told her that there wasn't enough time to change the details for the first weeks IS so they issued a gyro (or what ever they call it now) rather than pay it into the old account, then the second week, by which time they had ample time change details (bacs takes 3 days), they made a mistake and paid it into the old account rather than the new one.

I totally fail to see how that was the anyone's fault other than the staff at the DWP.

I didn't know that about childcare thank you, i'll look into it further.

I will definitely be writing to IS to find out how this has happened, I will also be expecting a full explanation on the phone tomorrow, I could be asking for a lot lol! I am hoping and praying that we can manage on the £50 for this week without having to resort to a crisis loan.
