MSE_Jenny wrote:URGENT! If you receive means-tested benefits you can claim a 60 quid rebate from British (or Scottish) Gas, though you must claim before 31 DEC 2005.
They are giving out rebates of £60 on winter bills - it is paid in two installments in November and February. The rebate is worth £40 for gas customers, £20 for electricity, i.e. £60 for customers getting both.
Check to see if you’ve received a form with your gas bill or call 0845 602 2008 and press 1 for Winter Fuel Rebate. All you need is your account details and they’ll arrange it for you.
It's for British (or Scottish) Gas customers only and you have to be on one of the following benefits:
Vulnerable Customer - Eligible Benefits
• Disability living allowance
• Pension Credit
• Attendance allowance
• War disablement pension which includes either a mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance
• Disablement pension which includes constant attendance allowance
• Child tax credit where the relevant income is £14,600 or less
• Working tax credit where the relevant income is £14,600 or less
• Council tax benefit
• Housing benefit
• Income-based job seekers allowance
• Income support
• Carers Allowance
• Severe Disability allowance
Call centre holiday opening hours:
Christmas Eve 9am-5pm
Tues 27th Dec 9am-5pm
Wed 28th Dec 8am-8pm
Thurs 29th Dec 8am-8pm
Fri 30th Dec 8am-8pm
Sat 31st Dec 9am-5pm
Many thanks, MSE Jenny. :j I've just read this, so hopefully will still be able to get it. I've heard absolutely nothing about it. Being disabled, I feel the cold a lot. Btw, just as an aside, DLA is *not* means-tested.0 -
madcanadian wrote:If you're on Incapacity Benefit then you must be getting the council tax benefit or the housing benefit, and you should be able to top up your incapacity benefit with the Income Support Benefit as I have done. This is only a couple of pounds per week but entitles you to free medication and other benefits.
As it says in the post you have to be receiving at least one of the following benefits to qualify.
hope this finds you well,
Madcanadian
I get Incapacity Benefit, but don't get council tax benefit or any other benefit because my hubby's earnings are taken into account. I also have to pay for my prescription's, due to the combined earnings. Sorry, getting a bit OT.0 -
Thanks jenny i have made a call and fit the qualifying criteria so hopefully a nice £60 cheque will be on its way to me, thanks again, i had never even heard of this scheme, hopefully it will be around this time next year!!!!0

made the call and passed the information on to friends - fab! I have had a thought that British gas are building up a database of customers that fit the criterea for the free heating or insulation grants ?? They can drum up a lot of business this way and have it paid for in grants;)I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

dc wrote:I get really annoyed with the exclusions regarding grants and rebates.
If you are on incapacity benefit, none of the above handouts apply, yet you are unable to have an income that comes anywhere near the thresholds applied to other benefit claimants. To rub in salt, many benefits on the list are given to those who already receive other benefits on the list too. Incapacity benefit excludes you from them all!
Fran and Jenny,am I missing something here, besides the trickle down money, or is there an injustice being perpetrated in the name of politics.
Being disabled, but able to work (but can't right now) you can get DLA. As I have a disability pension, I don't qualify for other *hand-outs*, a word to which I object. I personally get annoyed with people who get annoyed at others being able to claim back a little something from life. Or perhaps I've read this post the wrong way? If so, apologies.0 -
Thanks for this I am a carer along with 6 million of us in the country, we have to work 24/7 for the princely sum of £45.70 a week, no holidays, no breaks, We have to live on this poultry sum through no fault of our own and I would like to say how much this extra £60 will come in useful.
Thanks again
Andy

Thanks a million MSE Jenny - got my £40 rebate so easily with one phone call. I've passed the word around, it's a brilliant post especially for us carers.0

Saw this this morning so got right on to it. Since I moved from Scottish Power on the 27th they only have a provisional account for me so I can't get it just now - can't really understand that since I'm paying them presumably from the 27th! He did say that once I get my full account (which should be by the 25th of Jan) that I can still register then - should I believe that phone conversation??0
