  • It's outrageous that one can be entitled to this rebate and not be aware of it. I certainly wouldn't have known without reading it this am on my email from msaving expert. I phoned the number given and had to redial a dozen times, it said the line was too busy and to leave details and they would ring back. But I just kept redialing til I got thru, then dialed 1 for winter rebate and got a very helpful young man who put the rebate thru for me. I only needed my gas bill info, he asked what benefits i received and he said thats fine, i will get it but it might not come til april as i was so late applying. How else would I have known if not for Martin? I wouldnt, so a very big thank you. Perfect time of year to know I can turn the heat up a notch. Payment comes as a credit on your forthcoming bill. Fantastic practical advice, thank you Martin.

I had a confirmation letter yesteday from BG regarding my 2 lots of rebate. :rudolf:
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Right call me cynical, or maybe just cautious, but a couple of questions.

    Firstly what are the terms and conditions? - can't find them anywhere. Ruthless corporate barstards like BG rarely give money away without attaching clauses. Why no details? Via a Google search the only BG web page found with that telephone number is this one;

    http://www.britishgasnews.co.uk/index.asp?PageID=16&Year=2004&NewsID=639

and that's for fixed price "Warm Fix" schemes.

Why is it such a rush? it's a deadline two days away. Most of the mentions on the www are from the last week, has anyone got anything like a press release from BG?

i was worried about the T&C as well, and i specifically asked whether getting the rebate would have any implications, and i was told "no, its just a rebate". she could've just been lying, of course.

as for the short deadline, the OP mentions that the first cheques should've been sent out in november, so it must've been around longer than just the last week. very strange. they certainly haven't made much effort to publicise it.

here is what looks like a press release of sorts, from back in september (look about halfway down):

  • Thank you ever so much MSE Jenny,

Just off the phone to Scottish Gas and have been informed the £40 will come off my gas bill over two installments of £20 each and as I'm on a pre-payment meter for my electricity, I will receive either two £10 cheques or one £20 cheque for purchasing my cards. This certainly takes a bit of the sting out of the recent rate increases that've been announced.

I check in every time I get the email from Martin, and just think, today Santa came to visit me with £60 in his big red mitten...lol

    Cheers,

    Bruce

  • If you're on Incapacity Benefit then you must be getting the council tax benefit or the housing benefit, and you should be able to top up your incapacity benefit with the Income Support Benefit as I have done. This is only a couple of pounds per week but entitles you to free medication and other benefits.

As it says in the post you have to be receiving at least one of the following benefits to qualify.

    hope this finds you well,

  • Jenny, thank you so much for this info. :snow_grin Dad gets AA and I get DLA and as we get both gas and electricity from BG we are entitled to the full £60 rebate. :xmassmile

This is the first time that dad has ever been entitled to any benefits as it seems that you usually have to be in receipt of Income Support, for once his pittance of a private pension didn't exclude him. :rudolf:
This is about the only good thing that has happened to us this year.:snow_laug

I rang BG earlier today and got the recorded message asking me to leave contact phone number but rang again a short while ago and got through very quickly. They didn't require proof of what benefit we are on either ??

I have checked latest bills and no mention of this rebate, so once again, many thanks Jenny. :xmastree:

  • I'm also on the dual utility with Scottish Gas/Power. Read my entry a couple of minutes ago, £40 of my gas bill and £20 towards electricity.

  • I gave my sister-in-law the details and 5 mins. later she phoned me back very happy.
  • Nice... Thanks very much...that's another £40 off the Gas and £20 off the Electric. Beter than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!! ;)

(now I just have to sort out other issues with BG)
