I rang the helpline and was told by a 'Chris' that they are working Sat 09:00 - 17:00 and can receive calls from account holders not having received the first e-mail by close of business Friday

it is done. Thank you very much bilbof
  • Are none of you stirred up about not getting any interest after October 7th from the FSCS?

If the FSCS takes two months to give you the money back then you will in fact be losing over 1% of the value of your Icesave savings.

Surely its wrong for no interest to be paid after Oct 7th when the FSCS could take 6 months if it wanted to before finally getting round to paying us back our money.

I'm amazed people have used a Hotmail account to do your financial business with are you lot mad? Use a personal email service from your ISP provider Hotmail accounts get hacked every minute of everyday very silly IMO .

Haven't you just made the case as to why the FSCS should be sending these communications by post and not email.

TBH I don't feel that people who don't get the email possibly because of over-active or perhaps even slightly over-active  spam filters should worry too much, even if you don't manage to get the second email I doubt it will have any important data other than what day you should log on and retrieve your funds, as soon as someone here gets such an 'invitation' it will be obvious that details are being sent out to batches of savers, so all you have to do if you are worried is just log on the Icesave and see if withdrawal has been enabled for you, if not wait until the next 'invite' and repeat the process if you see what I mean, it's not ideal but it might be a way around the problem if your email goes 'astray'. :)

I must admit that I am surprised how many people use Hotmail or Googlemail for banking etc! Far better IMHO to use your isp's email for this sort of thing, with domains so cheap nowadays I think it is much better to have your own domain and email for important stuff, you can always have it forwarded to your Isp email.

I fairness though I imagine that quite a few people who use the net for banking etc are not that 'au fait' with internet tech and do not realise about the problems that can occur.:)

The above is very comforting. There is one other possinbility......they have screwed up and deleted me and my account and wont be sending me anything! I think anyone worried, should do what the FSCS recommends, that is contact them if they have not received the first email. I certainly will be doing so. Indeed, even writing to them by recorded delivery.
