You obviously need to have a second more reliable email address than the one that you were using. For example try setting up an email address that is independent of your ISP such as Hotmail or Yahoo. You then send a blank email from your new email address to Icesave@fscs.org.uk as per the instructions on the FSCS website http://www.fscs.org.uk/consumer which should trigger the automatic email back to your new email address within a few minutes. You then confirm receipt by replying (delete the text but retain the subject). My wife has done this procedure and it worked just fine (adding the disclaimer that you try at your own risk).Bye for now,

So I changed our email address to upper case (in the tools-accounts section of outlook express) and tried again - the response came back immediately!
So it looks like the FSCS Icesave email bouncer is checking for an exact case sensitive match rather than a case insensitive match.
Or maybe its coincidence and its because I am with talktalk?
Case is irrelevant in email addresses AFAIAA.
I expect it's because of what CPW has done thanks to Mr Dunstone.0 -
Just to say I have dropped Charles (Dunstone) an email to thank him !!

We are very sympathetic to your situation and hope it all works out OK for you.

How refreshing to get a reply, many companies ignore emails unless you are ordering something! Contrary to what people say he sounds like someone does actually care.0 -

I have just had a long chat with a very friendly lady (called Jennifer) on the FSCS helpline. This is an outsourced call centre but it seems that the computer system handling the "refunds" is programmed by FSCS IT staff. (Yes, I am aware that the Icesave website is run by the Yorkshire (Building Society?)) The FSCS will be posting advice this afternoon on the complex situation of people who have changed their email address. This is what Jennifer has been told.
Jennifer said she would ask a manager at the call centre to phone me back this afternoon. I'll let you know if this actually happens.
This is a one off situation for the FSCS and so we must make some allowances. However, I do wonder, with all the government resources behind them, why they couldn't have afforded the best IT advice to handle this.:hello:0 -
There must me a number of people with Talktalk who changed their e-mail address
to generate a reply from FSCS. But which list of e-mail address's will FSCS use to
send the second e-mail. Will it be the original list from Icesave ,or an ammended list,
including people who have changed their e-mail address recently and informed Icesave
after logging in to their home page. As someone has already commented the people at the end of the phone advice lines Icesave and FSCS all seem to have their own ideas as to the real effect of changing ones e-mail address. Don't think anyone at FSCS
reads this forum, but they could reduce the number of calls to their helplines if they
were to clarify the situation using their homepage.0 -

I believe they said that they would update their website later today with the info regarding email address changes.:)0 -

I would imagine they will only communicate with the email address that is current on the Icesave site.0 -
i hope so, seems logical enough0
