But he did say it was from "a (former?) IceSave account holder"

I'm still a current Icesave account holder so far as I am aware.

You didn't really want him to publish your name, or did you?:)

I'm perfectly happy to have my real name quoted in respect of the disgraceful incompetence of the FSCS over the way it sent out emails and the cowboy email house it used to foul this process up.

But many people do not look at the spam filter for weeks at a time and Icesave are only giving 28 days to act on their second email. Also some recipients may be away on holiday for a couple of weeks when it arrives further using up the 28 day window.

Granted....except one does tend to look somewhat more frequently & carefully with the refund of several thousand pounds resting on it....

With £1000's at stake I would be more than happy to check any spam filter/folder as many times a day as was necessary, it's a lot better than having to wait for the postie to call once a day and live in hope that he has an FSCS letter for you!

They are giving 28 days which is reasonable IMHO but if you don't happen to be able to you are not going to lose your money it may just take a little longer, it might be inconvenient but I am happy that they are doing things online rather than all the hassle of endless filling in of claim forms and relying on the postal service. :)

The FSCS helpline staff are a bunch of lieing toerags.

IMHO that sort of comment helps no one whatever the circumstances!

Personally I feel that they are doing the best they can given the huge task they face having to reimburse 200,000 plus savers with their money.

There are bound to be a few problems and mistakes made with such a daunting task.:)

For those that have not received any email from FSCS, this may help. It is possible to log onto your Icesave account and change your email address. You obviously need to have a second more reliable email address than the one that you were using. For example try setting up an email address that is independent of your ISP such as Hotmail or Yahoo. You then send a blank email from your new email address to Icesave@fscs.org.uk as per the instructions on the FSCS website http://www.fscs.org.uk/consumer which should trigger the automatic email back to your new email address within a few minutes. You then confirm receipt by replying (delete the text but retain the subject). My wife has done this procedure and it worked just fine (adding the disclaimer that you try at your own risk).

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!! I HAVE CHANGED IT TO MY GOOGLEMAIL ADDRESS AND IT WORKED!!! MANY THANKS INDEED :rotfl::T:A:beer:

The more problematic issue is ISPs who filter out "spam" emails before they get anywhere near your computer....

Quite a few ISP's do this inc I believe Talk.Talk and Aol (Both owned by Carphone warehouse), it does sometimes cause problems with genuine emails but is helpful with 'mass' spamming. :)

You are going to lose money if you miss the 28 day window as it will then take one to two months longer to pay you back manually and all the while you are getting 0% interest. That is why paying no interest is not fair or reasonable when the Fixed Rate Bond Icesave people are going to get their interest at the original rate for the whole remaining term.

I do not advocate the reclaim process is done by manual form filling. It should be done online at the website using normal user name and passwords. I only advocate that notification of the availability of the online process and its start date be sent by post and email as emails are not reliable (especially not with the bunch of idiots FSCS have used to send them out) and post is 99.9% reliable even though it takes 1 to 2 days to get there. Emails seem to be only about 10% reliable as sent by the FSCS.

Have you got the email now Susie?

Proves then that it was not the FSCS at fault but the spam filter at Talk Talk. :)

Glad you are sorted and happy, Lol I can relax now. :rotfl:

Well I can see you are much more guaranteed to get your next promotion from your boss in a large company than I am.

The task is not daunting but rather simple in systems and IT terms.

Get the money (that is the difficult part but just requires the government to borrow yet more money). Tip it in the large central account from which the money is drawn down. Then allow Icesave account holders to withdraw the amount that the online systems show as originally being in their accounts.

The only difficult part will be chasing up the people who do not reclaim and who have moved address.
