Thanks everybody. I feel a little better now although I still can't eat and feel constantly sick, but I'm glad she's back with us eventhough looking down at her in loads of carrier bags was awful. All I was concerned about is whether or not her eyes were open, I didn't like the thought of her been able to 'see' what was going on, which I know is riduclous, but they're closed anyway. She's covered in blood, think it's come from her ears. I just really hope she died straight away and wasn't in any pain. It's so quiet without her. We just keep saying how out of character it was for her to be across the road, she never went far. I think she was just chasing one of her little friends so at least she was having a good time.

We're going to bury her tonight. I want to get her cremated really because we do plan on moving from here within the next couple of years but I can't stand the thought of that whole process. My mum's said we could plant a tree where we bury her then take a cutting of that if we move. I'm going to cut a little bit of her fur and keep that, and we're going to get all the photographs off my phone and my boyfriends developed and put them in an album. I dont know what to do with all her toys, and scratch posts and treats etc. I don't feel like I can just throw them away. Even after they're gone there's still daft stuff everywhere that reminds me off her, like the fact my bedroom walls are totally shreaded from when we first got her, the little !!!!!!.

I'm a bit peed off atm. First at how useless cat protection are, rang them yesterday afternoon, finally got through to an answer machine, left name and number as told to, and still not heard anything back from them.

Also, council have told us we are 'lucky' to have got her back as they usually get rid of them straight away which I'm gobsmacked by. Surely they should at least checked with organisations such as RSPCA and Cat Protection to see if they have been reported as missing.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I had to have my Golden Retriever, Chloe put to sleep two weeks ago today. The first few days are hard and I kept thinking I could hear her. This does pass with time and you will be able to remember all the things you loved about Lexi.
I think the photo album is a good itea. Agree with you regarding Council and Cats Protection.
Take care, big hugs ((( )))

so sorry to hear about Lexi, it's never easy to lose and pet and she looked beautiful. You might find in time you want to give a home to another cat out there so keep all her stuff just in case. It'll seem impossible and ridiculous now but one day you might feel ready.

As for the cats protection, sadly despite having an HQ with paid staff, the branches round the country are mainly run by volunteers who can't always be everywhere. I'm not defending them because i feel they have a responsibility to organise themselves better. Besides if they were doing their job properly then there wouldn't be the need for so many independant rescues round the country. The issue of councils and cats has been quite an important agenda recently. Some councils carry microchip scanners for cats and others have had them donated through fundraising.

Perhaps it's something you can bring up with you local council, get the local media involved if you feel strongly enough about it but the government recently refused an early day motion to make councils carry microchip scanners so i dont think it will be become law/policy for a while.

    take care

kiraroo, I do feel really strongly about it. The fact the council told me on the phone last night that they do everything in their power to reunite animal with owner and then told be told this morning by the man who brought her that they 'get rid' of all animals they collect the same night as they are picked up really shocks me. To me the most obvious thing to do is to check for a chip and then to get in touch with local animal organisations to see if an animal in that area has been reported as missing.

I've already emailed the council, and have written an email to send to the local paper too, but am wondering if maybe you or somebody else wouldn't mind me PMing them this to have a read through as my mind is all over the place at the moment and I'm not even sure if it makes sense.

I've also sent an email to cat protection, politely telling them exactly what I think of them, and how let down I feel after donating money in the past to a charity I thought would help me who find themselves in a situation like the one I found myself in yesterday.

I'm just waiting for my Dad to come to help bury her. We've got a towel to wrap her up in, a few of her favourite toys, a few hair bobbles and balls of scrunched up paper (she used to literally cry until we through them for her then she'd fetch them back). Got her favourite treats to put in there too. My mum had bought her a collar that she'd put away for Christmas so I've opened it to put in, but took the little keyring that was on it off and am going to put it on my keys.

Tomorrow going to print off the photos off my phone, buy a photo album and sort that, also going to get a cat frame so I can have some pictures up and a key ring to put a pic in. Also need to get an ornament (sp??) to put over where she's going to be buried.

My Dad's got home now so time to go do the dreaded deed.
