    How about comping/using surveys etc for presents? You're only part-time again now so you have the time again.

  • Rog ~ Thanks, took a while but to be honest I dont post that much

    Gem ~ I do comp but not a massive amount. The problem is I am so not lucky. I have been playing free bingo for a few months now and still I havent had a voucher. I think I will have to just see what happens. If need be I will have to stop Cd for a month :confused:

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ok so a little update on money and other roandoms. Firstly it would seem that in the work shake up going on that 'we' part-timers can only now work 4hrs a day. This means that the small amount of open hours are covered and no one will require a break. In itself it sounds great, however this means my travel to and from work will be compromised :rolleyes:
    Generally I get a lift up, be it Mum taking me or grabing a lift when she goes up and waiting in work for up to 1.5hrs to start work. I will then either bus back, wait for her (if I am working 6hrs+) or on very rare occasions walking home. Now obviously I can grab a lift up sometimes but when I am working dead in the middle of the day it will not work as I can't possibly wait for 3hrs before shift. If I take an example week where I will work 5 out of the 7 and I work mid shift. This means I will need ten journeys if going by bus :o This is the amount I budget all month :eek:
    So there is nothing for it I will have to start walking to and from work on a daily basis, prob both ways too. Its 3.4miles each way so thats nearly 7miles a day, its a lovely walk though (when you get to the woods/fields) so I am not too bothered. Obviously when winter closes in I will have to reconsider due to my safety as although cars passes on most of my journey the two most 'dangerous' stretches they dont. The latest I will finish will be 5pm so maybe I will need an extra 10 journeys a month but again we can deal with that when it happens.
    However looking on this in a positive way its free, its excercise, it only takes max 45min which is sometimes as long as a bus takes anyways and it is beautiful. So I still plan to buy my usual 10 journeys but I have to have an exceptional reason to use a journey. I still have 4 left on the one I have here anyway. Also I am going to dig out my old waterproof jacket (if I still have it) so the rain will not be a problem either :T
    So thats the weekend news from me... Keep Plodding ~ or soon to be walking in my case :beer:
    Sounds as though your employers are adopting the same 'penny pinching' measures that ASDA use, PaP. :mad: :mad:
    When I get a shift it is usually a 'four hour' shift, so they don't have to give us a paid break. However, because I am a 'driver' and my round usually does not allow me to finish my shift in under four hours, I make sure that I have a ten minute break before I clock out.
    The latest of their 'cost saving :confused:' measures is to remove the 'free' coffee (ASDA Cheapest) and tea bags, so that we have to pay 23p for a cup of 'machine' rubbish. They do sell tea bags, for 10p, but the canteen counter is never open when we get back, so I take my own tea bags. ;)
    This, after telling us that we are only going to receive a 12pence per hour pay rise in October, is a bit like rubbing salt into an open wound. The 'free' cup of tea did more for staff morale than anything.
    I was due to work this evening, but they have called to to say they don't [STRIKE]need[/STRIKE] want me (again they have to make use of a full-timer over a part-time 'seasonal' worker like me. :mad: But I am required to work all day tomorrow - nobody else likes working on Sunday, as we get no additional pay.
    I appreciate that we are in a recession - this 'fact' is hammered home at every opportunity by ASDA - and that everyone needs to be 'cost-conscious'. There is, however, little, if any, mention made of the record profits that the big supermarkets are making out of this 'recession'. :confused:
    Still - what goes around comes around.
    Enjoy your [STRIKE]walk[/STRIKE] 'plod' to work, PaP - I often walk, but in my case it is only 2 and a half miles each way.
  • Oh Rog it would seem Asda and M have the same head office :rotfl: Glad to see you still squeeze in a break though, for people like me a break isnt important but when you have been driving I gues that really draining :rolleyes: I cant believe they have stopped the free coffee, we have never got anything (well since I have been here) but years ago they got staff meals etc, but I guess things change. Although saying that whats a few pence, its just mad!
    :mad: At the such small pay rise, I wonder what the 'higher' managements rises were? More than 12p I dont doubt. Its not like store worker dont work for it. We arnt having a pay rise this year, it was either that or have one and more redundancies on the table. Its still a bit of a blow though because its not like personal bills are not going up is it? So sorry you were told not to attend yesterday. I guess it messes up your evening and also your money because you cant plan for these things. Such a worry... Also what a nerve getting you in Sunday though because no one likes the shift :o
    I had to smile about your comment on the profits, its amazing with companys so big as supermarkets that they always mention how 'bad' the compay is doing yet refuse to mention how much they are up on last year. Its as if they think there employees dont watch the news/use the internet/are totally oblivious :rotfl: However M isnt doing well at all (we can se that for ourselves) and to be honest we dont know if the company will last at how big it is just now. But I guess its one of those things, still worrying though :rolleyes:
    Hope you have a fab Sunday anyways, keep plodding :j
    ~~~~

    So I have done something a tad stupid :rolleyes: About 4 weeks ago now I closed all my 'dormaint' accounts, so savings and currents (from when I had my business) but I left my isa open at Halifax. Well it would seem that I cant get my money out without another savings account :wall: I dont want to get it out anyways as I am going to try and do christmas on my normal wages but when I do need it, it will be a bit hit and miss as how to get out. I dont really want to open yet another account with them but :confused:

    Spoke to Mum yesterday and said that I dont think I can go on our usual May holiday. She wasnt pleased. The problem is I really really want to go to London before I am 25 and that gives me just next year :confused: There will be no way I can afford our usual holiday and London in the same year. I mean our October holiday was stupid on my part anyways. Obviously if I complete Cd as planned in december it will be diferent but just now I can't decide on anything. But alas I will cross that bridge when I get there...

    Today I havn't anything planned. I have to go to weigh in tonight but I have planned to walk to work (Mum works in the same complex type thing) to meet Mum and go from there to save her coming to get me and waste fuel. But other than that its cleaning and house chores :cool:

    Keep plodding all :beer:

    Hey PAP, are you thinking of doing London as a mini-holiday? I'd never been either but I just did a day trip with a friend, we saw all the free sites in a day and caught a West End show for £20 each. It doesn't have to be expensive :)

    Yes kinda Gem I want to stay for 5-7 days but I am planning the easy hotel because its super cheap (£20 a night in some rooms). I had been before with primary school but cant remember any of it :o Also I went when I was at summer school but it was a case of go on the London eye and then in the aquarium and then out. I want to go to many free attractions (museums and parks) but I also want to go to some more expensive places (london eye, london zoo, tower of london) and then if its still running catch avenue q or some other theatre thing. I will get the £1 mega bus there and back so its just hotel and attractions/food. I think I will need about £300 (excluding hotel fees) with a £150 fall back just incase anything happens. Considering I holiday on less than £200 every year its a huge amount. If I cant go for that long though I will go for a long weekend (Thurs till Mon) and cut down what I do.... I will get there before I am 25 though :j

    Sounds good. I'd love to spend more time there, do more attractions etc. I'd love to get up in the next few months, as someone I know (although not well) is in a show at the moment.

  • Gem, wow it would be fab if you can get to see them. Its not really that far for us either is it :confused:

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    So its the elusive payday. Sadly I didnt get any extra and although I really wanted some more thats life. Anyways as usuall mass bill paying this morning and it now leaves ~
    August ~ Total = £169.92
    £75.00 Argos (from Mum as she has her fridge on 0%)
    £13.00 ~ House ins
    £12.50 ~ Line rental
    £22.00 ~ Bus ticket
    £15.00 ~ postage
    £10.00 ~ spends (have £10 on me which is two weeks spends)
    Total = £147.50
    So as you can se that will leave me £22.42 to either save or keep as emergency. I think I will leave it till next payday to decide on that. I also did treat myself, I am getting into excercise big time, like I never thought I would. Anyways I have one dvd at home but I was getting bored of that so I spent £12 at amazon on a new dvd. I think thats ok though as it should hold its value if I want to resell it, plus its a damn site cheaper than a gym :rotfl:
    So far I havent had to walk home from work yet :T I also have 3 journeys left on my old card. This is because my work collegues have either been giving me a lift home or I have been waiting for Mum. However next week I have planned to walk, one way, at least 3 out of the 5 days I am working. I didnt find my waterproof coat (I think I binned it after work experiance in a dog groomers) but I found a umbro jacket reduced from £30 to £8 so mum brought one for her and me :D
    So thats me for another month, not that I am wishing my life away you know ;)
    Keep plodding all :j
