On a more serious note if you have a COP and the book goes missing will the post office refund you? As after whats happened with my last amazon sale was planning on sending all books recorded delivery as I'm certain this person has pulled a fast one. But recorded delivery will probably eat up most of the profits.

i highly doubt you'd get anything from the post office for a swap

they have been right b*st*rds with me about swaps in the past. if you can't prove how much someone paid for it they won't cough up  also they have the cheek to not reimburse your postage  i have however forced the issue in the past and very relunctantly been given that money on appeal citing that they've breached their contract with me by not safely delivering the mail. actually, them NOT paying you the postage seems to me to be fraud of sorts and personally i believe something should be done to make that illegal!

Quite I believe such people should be imprisoned for many years!

P.S. I didn't mean swap books I meant amazon books as someone has claimed to have not received book and I don't have a COP. In future sales would a COP cover me or do I go down recorded delivery road and eat up my profits?
I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

I mentioned the other day that I had been conned by a swapper who has failed to send me the book and doesnt reply to emails. I was annoyed because it was quite a good one.

I would never have thought it was valuable had I not checked his listing. Anyway, someone must like me because I found one in a rubbish skip today!!

What the hell were you doing in a skip!

a COP for an amazon book will cover you up to £30

i believe soo said that she's found that MORE special delivery parcels go missing than regular mail so you may not want to pay the extra 65p for that 'service'

i'm not sure how much special delivery covers, think it's something like £250 but i so rarely use it i can't remember off the top of my head

Even if you havent got a COP you can still get money back, they recently"lost"an item of mine,I wasnt getting COPS then but I still got my money back, and then 6 weeks later the item arrived back at my house.

Couldnt you use a screen print of the Amazon item to use as a "receipt"

Forgot to say,off to my 1st junk swop today, its been organised by some part of the council to improve recycling,I was really happy when that flyer came through the door.
Found my cheapest ever novel book shop yesterday for swops 6 for a pound.
I am being quite good sticking to just the one bookcase full and just topping up as I go along.

if it's an amazon item then you can simply send them the packing label that states the price on it that's how i've always done it with an ebay item and that's sufficient but you WILL have to press the postage issue or they won't refund that

hell, i had to kick up a fuss last time they sent 2 items back to ME (next day!) instead of sending them to the correct person! they didn't want to give me money back for the postage on those either and i wasn't having any of that as it clearly was their mistake not mine. i strongarmed the manager into giving me an email address then sent him photo's of the the two packages to prove my point, i got stamps posted to me the next day :T

There's a little local charity shop near me that sells books at 6 for a pound but the staff smoke, and they chat to customers for ages who also smoke too.....if I can get the books when they've just been put out I can save them from being kippered.

actually you'll soon not have to worry about that, i believe it is now 100% illegal to smoke in shops and restaurants in scotland (yay, i'm in edinburgh :T ) and is set to be by 2007 for england and wales

when the new rules come into force you may wish to gently remind them ;)

i've got one local shop that does 3 for £1 and another that does 5 for 95p so not too bad! another regularly has nice hardbacks for 50p

i need to branch out to different areas of the city though, i have a charity shop map for edinburgh and we have something like 70 charity shops  :T

How hysterical a charity shop map!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best you buy yourself one of those old lady shopping trolleys....lol......... think of the exercise you will get as well kill two birds with one stone.

Had a great time at the Junk swop wow did they have loads of books the man behind it kept saying take as many as you like, and pushing books into my hands saying this is a good one and while I was brousing a book saying take it you know you want it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!well it would have been rude not relieve them of about 25 books 1st trip and them about another 30 the next trip about an hour later.
There was a rather disturbing sign on the door saying no traders or bootsalers.....................ekk
Anyway I think of myself more of an entrepeneur if only I could spell it.
