selling your stuff on Amazon...part 2

I have been "stepping up" our buying campaign but still keeping to the rules of not buying books over 50p unless really special. At the same time I have been "stepping away" from the process and getting OH to take over more and more as I have started working full-time and he is a SAHCM (stay at home cat minder...no kids for him to look after!!!)
I am really hoping to get more books at auctions to get more into it and am musing upon an "Abe books" seller account (which is cheaper than Amazon pro seller) but haven't looked into the ins and outs yet...the charges could be expensive!!!
I am also jumping at any chances of free books that come up (well I'd be daft not to!!!)Laughing at my ancient signature...voodoobaby now 10 years old:eek:0 -

i'd been considering doing this myself

i'm also considering ABE
dh is desperate for me to start up my own secondhand book shop :rotfl: he's an avid book collector (barely reads them though unless they are academic)
i keep having to slap his wrists and telling him to get his paws off my books!
actually doing a second hand book shop specialising in textbooks here could be very lucrative as we're so close to edinburgh uni. blackwells sells used texts here but they're overpriced to be quite honest
dh and i dreamed up buying/renting some space perhaps in an old factory, maybe sort of cellar level (he suggested calling it 'the rabbit hole' ?!) where i could sell books, have an internet cafe, burn dvds/cds, fax stuff etc, also buy and sell secondhand dvd's and cd's etc the whole shebang
he'd love that i'm certain... actually i would too but don't know if i could be arsed to do anything about it!
i think dh is only interested though because he would want first dibs on all the good book s :rotfl:founder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -
The quickest way to relist your swapit books is to make them all inactive, then active again - a warning - make sure that all the books that you have on the inactive list are ones that you really want to activate....errrrr...someone I know well....hmmm...left all the books on the inactive list that she, errrr, I mean he, had listed on amazon or kept for himself and inadvertantly forgot which was which when they re-listed, got them all muddled up and had swaps made on books that they had already sold on Amazon....big ooops0

Just been inspired to have a little shuffle on RISI after reading that...I'm so slow, it would never have occurred to me to do it!!!!!!!!
I've got some potentially good swaps in the pipeline but am stressing out that they'll turn up covered in food with felt tip all over every page after reading all the horror stories!!!!!
Have also (slightly off topic) got a BIGGIE ebay transaction in the pipeline(I like that word today!!!) which of course I'm having kittens over. Have managed to swing a bank transfer to avoid Paypal fees but its a big item so needs a courier to collect etc. etc. Its all in the hands of OH and I am a bit of a control freak!!!!!Laughing at my ancient signature...voodoobaby now 10 years old:eek:0 -

Would you care to share if you limit yourself to a certain amount per week to spend on amazon buying? I am beginning to think I must limit myself to £5.00 or I will be left with piles of books, which I cannot be sure will sell. I am always a bit obesessive about things I get involved in anyway!
It is a good job I am not doing swapit as well!
Larmy - I wish I could spend more time on buying, selling etc, but just don't seem to have any spare time! I haven't looked round my charity shops (apart from yesterday!) for a while, & meant to go to a table top sale today, but forgot! I would love to do this as an alternative to working - I am currently on mat. leave, and don't want to go back to work, but I would have to generate enough income to pay some bills!!
I don't have a limit, I just pick up anything that is cheap enough at the time, or take the ISBN number if it is "pricey" (£1+) and hope that the book is still there when I go back!
I don't sell many at any one time, so never have the issue really of books, wrapping etc all over the place (unfortunately!!) I am also quite disorganised, and trying very hard to get organised - but not being very successful!!
I haven't quite got round to RISI yet - I have listed a few, but find it a bit time consuming.
Becky004 - I have the IVAR shelving from IKEA and have had it for about 15 years I guess!! It has gone through 4 house moves and it is very versatile - highly recommended!!AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0024 come and join us :hello: make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the Ebay and other auctions, Car Boot and Jumble Sales Board0 -

Leothecat wrote:Hi there. Sorry to be a pain - I have read thru but cannot find the answer. How soon after selling should you expect feedback? Do you find a lot of buyers do not leave feed back? I sold my 1st book - paperback to Italy on 26.1.06, posted immediately but there is still no change to my account AND I have not yet received payment. I have loads of my own books that I want to list and am really keen to get them all on but am worried.
Thanks for any advice.
I bought something off the marketplace a good few months ago, and am not aware that I ever received an email from Amazon asking for feedback. When selling, I usually send an email to say I have posted the item and giving them a link to the feedback section. Not sure if it makes any difference or not though!
My week started quite well - sold 3 books in 2 days (which got me very excited!) Put it down to everyone having been paid finally after Christmas so feeling that they could go out spending! Then nothing since. But my number of feedbacks has *shot up* by a huge 3 this week. One was from someone I had only just sold a book to for £10, which I had picked up for 40p - I was worried he would see the price rubbed out in the book (yes, I know, I am sourcing it for him!), but it is quite a small book, doesn't seem worth it to me!! However, he left his feedback very promptly, so I was chuffed to little pieces!:DAMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0024 come and join us :hello: make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the Ebay and other auctions, Car Boot and Jumble Sales Board0
