I am also jumping at any chances of free books that come up (well I'd be daft not to!!!)
How do you find out about auctions to go to please (and whether they are any good), and where on earth do you keep getting all the free books from?? I haven't looked round my charity shops (apart from yesterday!) for a while, & meant to go to a table top sale today, but forgot! I would love to do this as an alternative to working - I am currently on mat. leave, and don't want to go back to work, but I would have to generate enough income to pay some bills!!
I don't have a limit, I just pick up anything that is cheap enough at the time, or take the ISBN number if it is "pricey" (£1+) and hope that the book is still there when I go back!
I don't sell many at any one time, so never have the issue really of books, wrapping etc all over the place (unfortunately!!) I am also quite disorganised, and trying very hard to get organised - but not being very successful!!
Oh believe me I would love to do it as an alternative to working too! Trouble is I could never make enough as I am the only wage earner in my home! Amazon is really more of a hobby to me. I went to a car boot this morning and bought a book for 10p. It was all about turbo charging cars (boy racer type thing) and I just had a feeling about it. The cheapest on there was £23.71. Also the other day a book costing me 30p - the cheapest on Amazon and all in the States was over £30.00. Now if only the pair of them would sell!
I limit myself to 50p (occasionally 75p) paperback and £1.00 (occasionally £2.00) hardback, however I have taken to just going back after checking the hardback ones. My main mistakes are picking up penny paperbacks and as I am not pro-merchant they don't seem worth listing.
I just love those Sold-dispatch now emails. Had two tonight. Both for books bought this weekend. Not huge amounts - probably triple what I paid for them so thats no so bad is it???Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Well I would just like to thank you all. I am now totally and utterly addicted to thi thread! After reading thru EVERY post in it today, I got all my books out of the attic and listed them. Just got one of the 'send the book immediately' emails so am over the moon. Currently have 20 listed and have to get the others out of the garage tomorrow. Can't wait!!
Cheers everyone for the inspiration!!0 -
I started selling my daughters' books on Amazon (2 readaholics who look after their books) by accident really and then just for something to keep the old grey cells ticking over, but I have quickly become addicted. A friend gave me a huge box of books and things just snowballed from then and now I think I can actually make a bit of money at this!
All of my profits are going towards my girls' residential school trips and scout camps!!! Need £450 by the summer!
I've sold 12 books since Thursday - I'm well chuffed!! I had a good run at the charity shops on Thursday though and brought 15 home - 10 of which looked as though someone had been into WH Smiths and bought them and then taken them straight to the charity shop!! Still, who am I to complain at 40p each?
I doubt this run will continue though - but I must say things have definitly looked up since around November time.
Best of luck to everybody!AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0033 come and join us :j make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the ebay and other auctions, car boot and jumble sales board0 -
numberthree - TWELVE BOOKS!!! crikey! that £450 will soon be saved at that rate.
Leo - there really should be a prize for reading all these posts, well done (are you going to start on the 1000 posts on the previous thread?) well done on the sale today, it's really satisfying to get a sale on the day it's listed.0 -
Bella13 wrote:Becky004 - I have the IVAR shelving from IKEA and have had it for about 15 years I guess!! It has gone through 4 house moves and it is very versatile - highly recommended!!
Am definitely going to be getting some when we move. Was going to get OH to build me wall to wall shelving for my hundreds of books which have been in boxes in attic for 4 years. IVAR will probably be cheaper and quicker.
Had another pending today! However I can't complain sold 3 yesterday (2 within hour of listing!). Am waiting on another 40 odd RISI hopefully there will be lots of good ones in there.I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

apprentice tycoon i just want to say huge thanks (dont know if you remember me but i posted earlier) today i have had my first sale, i must say i am still learning but i am sure this will soon be as popular to me as ebay. Thanks again for all your help0

posting - yes of course I remember you, dizzy penguin included. I too balance ebay and amazon and they complement each other really well. With ebay you get the tension and suspense of the last minute bidding and with amazon you have the initial thrill of logging in the ISBN and hoping that it's the book that the world has been waiting for.......then patience is needed while the world decides if they really do want it.0

I am thinking about selling books on Amazon (second hand and new books) and wondered if anyone could give any tips on what sort of books sell best/make the most profit etc etc
Also, how do you get started with no feedback rating? Do you have to buy some things first??
Thanks in advance!0 -
ack - the highs and lows
i was v happy last night as i had a good night of closing ebay auctions (and had 3 amazon sales too over the weekend) - did a lot better than expected - half of it stuff i bought on ebay intending on keeping but decided due to lack of space to resell
then this morning - i get an email from an amazon buyer of mine, stating the dvd i sent them was scratched and unplayable - i certainly dont think it was but feel i have little choice but to accept it returned and refund them and hope they dont leave a big fat 1 out of 5 for me - and also hope that they arent conning me and resending a copy they had previously in replacement for my good copy
ack ack ack - plus finances are so tight, that im not sure i can afford to send my parcels out until the amazon money clearsSee the stars they’re shining brightEverything’s alright tonight0
