however, i do wish they'd allow us to email the people before the 7 day period as i would have liked to been able to tell her immediately that there was going to be a delay and why

    i agree
would be helpful to be able to send them a message - even if its a message sent via risi - they dont even have to let you see teh email addy til 7 days, there should be a pm type facility

HOL, I hadn't planned on claiming from the PO, I'm must be getting soft in my old age but I have made a very nice profit on these swap books, as well as gaining some nice ones for ourselves to keep so I'm taking a very laid back attuitude to this and letting it all wash over me.......am I too old to become a hippy now I'm 50?

    :rotfl:

with my book the guy had the cheek to ask me to send the book back after i told him i'd pay him £1.50 in postage (far more than either of us paid)

i told him, quite honestly, that i was in the middle of reading it and my husband wanted to read it too (quite true, dh won't let me sell it on ) and that the post office wont give me anything for it because it's a swap and i have nothing to prove it's value so i'm just going to send him the stamps

honestly, he must think i'm pretty stupid if he thinks i'd send the book back at my own expense then have NOTHING... i have COP by the way ((blows big raspberries at the guy))

There is a book on RISI (not giving away title) the amazon link takes you to a page where there are 2 for sale at wait for it ...................... £919 and £928.

If you check through all listings it brings up another 1 at £6 which is ok. How can people warrant asking such ridiculous prices?

In many instances the crazy high priced items you see on Amazon are American listers and the prices are generated by a computer not by human input.

There are many of these sellers with RBMBooks being a typical example.

Here's a question. How long would you keep a book on amazon for? Bought an obscure title that you would only want if you were a specialist. Was 1 other on for about £160, mine is in excellent condition and I've been reducing it weekly, is now 1 other 1 in acceptable condition for about £55 mine is currently £90. Now I can't see it ever selling but thats just my opinion. Should I just stick it on RISI to be done with it or stick it out?

  • Stick it out without a doubt! Maybe keep reducing the price.
I had one sell this week that had been listed for around 9 months then out of the blue someone wants it netting me a nice £40 profit.

Just had a look as I was in two minds whether to remove it. The £160 has gone maybe there's hope after all. Either that or their 60 day listing was up and they haven't relisted it yet (which is more likely to be the case!)
Anyway am going to leave it on for a while and keep my fingers crossed.

You have to appreciate there are thousands of books listed on amazon which are unsaleable. Just because you see a copy listed for £ 160 doesnt mean that its worth that amount and if its an old academic book where the content is vastly out of date it simply will never sell.

Also, if the book is rare then a potential buyer may only come along once in 5 years. Its possible that no person has ever looked at your listing on amazon. The good thing with amazon is that your book can stay listed without it costing you any money.

If you want an opinion as to whether your book is truly worth the money then email me with title/author details.

i got a hell of a shock this afternoon... bought some books 5 for 95p

one of them comes up as only 2 available and the lowest price is £125 and both sellers are in the UK! i listed it as £49.99 as i think that's completely unrealistic so i'm going to check abe etc later it's only a paperback book about a city in england, no big deal really

but hey, if i can make that kind of money on it i'll be happy, only cost me 19p!
