how do you sell these? i picked up a copy of tess of d'urbervilles read by martin shaw, thought it would go down well... can't find that particular one listed on ebay even though i used the isbn number i found several other versions but not that one! don't want to sell it on ebay instead as i'll make a loss so how do i go about getting this one in?

i'd think with these it might make a big difference who reads them

can't find my puccini la boheme version either  everything BUT this one and it's jose carreras too! any ideas? this is two audio cassettes with a lovely booklet in french, english, italian and german, it's got the story, historical facts, photos in colour and b&w and all the words/script! i should think it would take someones fancy they have one on cd that's selling for £57 made by the same company so i think it may be worth at least £15-20 but how can i list it if amazon won't cooperate?

I think you've has a bit of bad luck with these, I would have bought them to sell on too....I wonder if amazon adds to their database and they may get in on there in time - it's a very long shot but if they won't sell on ebay for a good price maybe it's woth holding them for a while and try again in a few months.

just wondered, can we make suggestions to amazon for things to add to their database? they've missed out on quite a few of my items lately and many are recent

It has never occurred to me to lower the price after a "pending" so it wouldn't work on me!!! ;)

It must be psychological and when a book's near the 60 day period. I lowered two in the last 7 days and they sold after the 72 hours were pending.

I'm sure I said in this topic or the other one that I never would, but these reminders seem to either make me lower the price - or mark it up.

Theres no great logic to that and I suspect youve just thrown a bit of money away. Pendings have nothing to do with the price just something wrong with the payments process.

It's ok Amazombie. There's logic in it when I pay, in one instance, 99p for a brand new book, sell it for 3 times the price, as new at say ... £3.99plus p+p or whatever, but still make an overall profit.

I did have a 'pending' book that was up for approximately £25, and I lowered it, after the 'pending' by £2.50. It sold 2 days later.

As I bought both for less than a pound .... I doubt I've thrown any money away ;) But having said that, I liked the look of both books and wouldn't have been bothered if they'd sold or not. It's the thought that people try and buy them under a false name, then they're bought officially, that gets me ...

... but not too much :)

HOlsale ... they're not taking much room up are they? (I know 'cos I've bought some from sites and I'm still thinking of selling them on :))

This might sound really bad, but anyone that has books, audiobooks, or any sort of collectable, to hang on to them until the people singing, writing, or talking, die. They appear to double in price ...

It's an awful thought but it's true. :(

I have a general question about storing books after my puchase at auction yesterday. I have sorted through the boxes I bought yesterday and seperated out those to list on Amazon (all now listed) and those to donate to a charity shop. The ones to donate include some very old 1930s and 1940s bookswith no isdn numbers, I also have some foreign language books to donate, mainly Arabic which I'm not sure will have much of a value in my local chairty shops but maybe Oxfam can send them to a specialist centre?

Anyway, as usual I am rambling...my question how to store large quantities of books? i am lucky in that i have outbuildings, they have power and light but are not used, so tend to be cobwebby and cold. I don't think the buildings are damp, but I can't be sure. I have work papers stored down there that appear undamaged after two or three years, but wonder if books are more delicate than just paper documents.

Is it best to wrap the books at all, paper or plastic, or to just take them down in boxes? Is there anything I can add to the boxes to keep them fresh? I'm being pessimistic here and assuming things don't sell too quickly. Frankly I almost pulled something getting these books in the car yesterday and as I can't park near my charity shop they are unlikely to be donated anytime soon even if they don't sell.

Any storage advice would be helpful please.

    Thanks

    Soo

  • Hi Soo,

First of all many congrats on winning at the auction!! I assume all went well.

My books are stored in the shed at the bottom of my garden. I have them in cardboard wine boxes lined with heavy duty refuse sacks which are folded over at the top over the books. They seem to stay nice and dry and have been in there for about a year now.

  • Soo, you're going to get hooked on auctions now, I know it

When the charity collectors come around you can give them a nice suprise, no need to go to the shop!

If your other paperwork doesn't seem to have suffered you're probably OK with leaving them there, I'd put them in lidded boxes, then put the boxes in bin bags and check on them often (mice?) rather than wrapping each book in case they get condensation.

Do you have any space under the beds or anything like that?
