I bought something on Amazon, probably Wednesday (sorry brain a fog at the moment. Anyhows the point of my post is I have had an email from Amazon, explaining that there have been technical difficulties and the order took 15 hours to process or words to that effect.

They said that if I wanted to leave feedback for the purchase, to please bear in mind it is not the seller's fault for the delay. Now lets just hope that most people are reasonable and actually take this on board like perfect old me :D

So hopefully our glitches recently will all have been sent this email.

Well, I listed my mates old uni books this afternoon and within the space of half an hour I just sold 2 for £50. I estimate due to excess posting costs that the actual total to me will be nearer £45 profit so I am well pleased with that and have another 9-10 listed.

Only 3 sales so far but I think I am totally hooked. :j

  • Boomdocker - that is a fantastic result :j I bet you're really chuffed.
  • Did email Amazon saying I want the book back, they say under their buyer promise thing, he's allowed to keep it!

Some sellers are funny don't you think? I had a video for sale - originally it was the only one on there but then another appeared and they undercut me by a penny! I had thought maybe the video a little expensive for what it is (child's) so I thought I would put it in for £8.00. Next thing there they were at £7.99!

I thought ooh this is a good game, so I reduced it further to 5.00 - in they came at £4.99. So I put £4.75 and there they were again £4.74!!! :rotfl:

Now I have closed my listing and theirs is even lower now than a new one that stepped in. I am not desperate to sell this video, so I may watch this item and put it in again at a later date. I dont often get this involved in the pricing war - never seem to have the time - but from the name of the seller they appear to be a professional outfit as opposed to me an individual.

But what exactly did Amazon say you'd done wrong? It doesn't make any sense.

I can't think of the right words to describe a marking on a book. My flatmate has given my some of her uni books to sell (woo hoo) Most are in excellent condition but 3 or 4 of them have her surname written on not the spine but the opposite edge where you would flick thru the pages. Does that make sense? Not sure if there is a name for that bit.

How should I best describe that?

Yes, there is a name for it.

I think it's called "the opposite edge where you would flick through the pages"
    :D
  • My goodness, that seems outrageous.

How come they get to keep the book - surely you're allowed to ask for it back??? Thieving b*****d!

Can't you ask Amazon where it states that you are not allowed to price a book at more than the "new" price? If someone is ignorant enough not to hunt around to make sure that they can't buy it cheaper elsewhere, then isn't that their lookout? I'm interested to know the rules on this.

Surely some books are like investments: as they become rarer (out of print or limited number printed, dumped, damaged or burnt rather than recycled) they become even more expensive than they were when new.

What were your reasons for the increased price?

As a buyer of anything, I look at the item and at the price and decide whether or not that item is worth that cost to me. If I decide to buy something at a given price, unless it was not as described (condition or an abridged version re books, music or film), then I don't consider that price too high.

Why did the buyer purchase the book, if they could see that the price second hand was greater than the price new, then complain regarding that price?

Aye, there's nowt as queer as folk.

Now my "joker" has filed a complaint to Amazeon, which i have responded to, but surely in that case if I lose (which I shouldn't) he'll have to return the book. Also he's saying I claimed it was the 2nd edition when it is the first. I never mentioned any edition number (item was simply listed used- very good), so he jumped to that conclusion as its the 2nd edition currently available from Amazon direct.
    UGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

Just been re-reading your earlier postings.

Did you by any chance have your older edition listed under the different isbn of a more recent edition? That's the only possible reason I can see that Amazon might have found in his favour.

So the buyer was assuming that your version at £22.50 was the same as Amazon's version at £25. If he then received an out of date version with a different isbn, then I can perhaps understand why he turned funny.

If however, both editions have the same isbn then I think in your shoes, I would contest Amazon's decision - you've done nothing wrong.

I just wondered if anyone has Frank Skinner's affutobiography for sale. I need it quickly as my son is going to Australia next weekend, and it's a gift for him to read on the plane. I have tried asking a few sellers but no one has got back to me. Hope it's ok to do this. If you let me have your sellers name i will know who to buy it from. Thanks.
